Communism was abolished in Romania in 1989. Adrian Ghenie studied fine arts at the Arts and Crafts School in Baia Mare between 1991 and 1994. He is a graduate of the Art and Design University of Cluj-Napoca (2001). Thus it is completely wrong (not to say outrageous) to say that he attended art school in communist Romania.

I think it's more accurate to say that Ghenie studied under the remnants of Communism. Just because Communism was formally abolished in Romania in 1989 that doesn't mean that everything suddenly changed overnight. It takes years & years (if not decades) to fully erase the stench of a political ideology so deeply ingrained in a culture. Just ask Russia.
