    Nyama choma, or grilled meat, is one of the favorite things to eat in Kenya. It can be many different types of meat, and usually the meat is slow roasted, sliced in front of you on your table, and served with salt, chilies, and kachumbari. In this video we’re taking you on a tour of some of the best nyama choma in Nairobi, Kenya.
    Khan has a been a great friend of mine for many years in Nairobi, Kenya. And he recently started Gikosh, an aviation art company. You can check out their stuff on / air.gikosh and sky-decor.com/
    We decided to go on an ultimate Nairobi street food nyama choma (roasted meat tour) of Nairobi, but with a twist. Some of his carpenters and welders dressed in their Gikosh costumes for the occasion, and we first set off the walk about Gikomba Market in Nairobi.
    After walking around the market for a while, we stopped at a small spot to eat our first grilled meat - nyama choma. They served grilled beef, and so we ordered a few kgs to snack on. It was overall quite good, and a nice friendly environment.
    Total price - 1,000 KES ($9.86)
    Kenyatta Market - For many years, Kenyatta Market has been one of my go to places for ready made nyama choma in Nairobi. They always have a huge selection that’s ready to eat when you arrive. The only thing that can be a bit hectic is when all the meat stalls are all trying to get your business at once. Some of the vendors even fight each other for your business. We eventually chose a stall, and ordered up a huge amount of meat. We got a mixed selection, but mostly goat, and a chicken, plus a bunch of Kenyan food side dishes.
    Total price - 700 KES ($6.90) per kg
    Dagoretti Corner - Final stop on this Kenyan food nyama choma tour was at
    Dagoretti Corner and specifically Carol Smart Butchery. This is where we got husted for some meat! A few of the butchers from the slaughterhouse followed us to a nyama choma spot, chose some meat, and sat down to eat with us. But I was totally ok with eat, and they were hilarious and very entertaining!
    Total price - 2,000 KES ($19.72)
    Again, be sure to check out my buddy Khan: / air.gikosh

You reminded me of Princess Diana when You, Micha and. Ying interacted with people and the kids of Kenya. It is not about how much you will gain from your vlogs but how many friends you will gather on every country you visited. I highly recommend your family to be recognized by UN and made you all as family ambassadors of goodwill. I must be honest, I would be a bit nervous going into some of the areas Mark goes into. The 2nd and 3rd places/restaurants meat looked okay. The fight most likely broke out because they are probably not used to tourists in their communities. Mark should also show some of the built-up areas in Kenya in order to give a well-rounded representation of street food, restaurant food and food in town built-up urban areas that have shopping centres etc. These guys loved being filmed on video. Thank you for going into these areas Mark. Many Africans themselves wouldn't. It should be like this though. Maybe there are tours into these communities. I'd be a little nervous eating certain foods there. Mark, you're a great sport.There is no one like you. Thank you. This warmed my heart.

    • @FreddieMburu
      @FreddieMburu Před 5 lety +31

      Claire, that commotion you saw while they entered the market is common to everyone who enters the market. They are purposely placed their to draw whoever enters the market to their stalls. There are too many vendors and so the owners resorted to soliciting for customers at the entrance

    • @clairemarshel408
      @clairemarshel408 Před 5 lety +16

      Pratik4311 PAUSE! Im not only talking about those comments, im speaking on ALL disrespectful comments! Furthermore, you dont know if they practice cleanliness or not you’re assuming just like everyone else...AND as you see in the video (if you even watched it) you would see they have a butcher and they have a person that cooks. When you take the time out to learn another culture all around the world and not be stuck in your own little bubble of what Europeans deem as “right” you would know that unless the meat is not cooked then all germs are gone by the time it comes off the fire..ALL that meat was cooked! Also I’ve heard of more cases of food sickness in USA and UK than I’ve ever heard of in African countries and Caribbean countries and so on....

    Mark I just got back from Kenya. Your video is the real deal. At first, I was taken aback by the environment. Then, I just learned to go with the flow and relax. It’s a third world country. We as Americans can be so ignorant sometimes. The people were lovely. I was humbled by their hospitality and kindness. And yes, there were hustlers but you can get hustled in New York, LA, Detroit, etc. I love the authenticity of your video and your kindness as a guest in someone else’s country. Much respect to you!

    Watch at your own risk. You should know that not every country in the world has the same culture and you know what im talking about. The hell if you cant stand what your watching then skip the vid. Like you can wait for other vid series from mark. Just because your lifestyle and your environment is diff than this people doesnt mean you are better than them. Thumbs up to mark wiens for being able to immerse himself to the locals, huge respect for him cause he makes sure that he isnt disrespecting anyone nor anything on his vlogs. His video is about pure positivity so why cant you just be like him? Cause even if yah rant about the dirt, sanitation, germs and what not still these people are beautiful and hey thats just their way of life. Life is so unfair to others so be considerate and be mindful of what you say. Geeez the heck is wrong with ya'll, their food aint killin no one and mark is perfectly fine.

      Joelyn Atimpao Very well said. I agree with you 100% Skip the video if you dont like it. Announcing in the comments how unsanitary, unsafe, you're not following cause of this Africa series, etc... just shows the type of person you are. Mark has been doing this for years because hes good at what he does. He is so humble and sweet and respectful of other peoples cultures. Hes not going to lose sleep because you announced you are not following anymore. He didnt make this channel just for you lol!

Such an eye opener, some people are just sucked into a society where every little thing is an issue.
