Where airplanes go to die and others to live again

- If you've ever traveled from Phoenix to Tucson you may have seen them, hundreds of airplanes sitting out in the desert.
They are all at a huge facility called Marana Aerospace, which is the world's largest aircraft storage, maintenance, paint, and teardown facility.
I could happily play pilot for several days there. Just sitting in those cockpits making airliner noises like a child.
David Hoffman You going to get bored after your first hours... Without the working systems and oriented procedures one will get bored on the idle parts..
David Hoffman Why is their a 777 going to sacrapage
RobloxianAviaGeek RBLX , The first B777 was flown over 20 years ago in 1995. This might be one of the early production models that is just too worn out to rebuild economically. Also a newer B777 is probably less costly to operate on a per ton-mile basis.
David Hoffman cough

Why retire the amazing 747? Hats off to Lufthansa for continuing the 747 line by buying the 747-8s. 747 should be called the king of the skies!
too bad *a french boi* made the A380 which I kinda hate
747 is the queen of the skies and the a380 is king
Modern planes.
The 747 is very old, and jumbo jets aren’t making as much money as they used too.
u wot m8 Oh The A380 is starting to fall slowly now
Yeah!
B747a - So what are you for in here?
B747b - I’m off to be scrapped, my career is at it’s end
B747a - Oh, i’m just here for maintenance
B747b - Son, at the end of the day, you will be scrapped like me. Maybe you could become a 787 or a A380
B747a - So what do you wish you could become for your next life?
B747b - I’d wish to become a F-22
A sad story...
LOLWTF673 sad :(
LOLWTF673 (tears) ever got on an airline and called the window mean fat names and jokes to shame it for being fat
f in the chats for the ryanair landing gear
@@yeetmaster8315 do you mean people name call airplane windows fat.
):
Look at all those classic 747 :(
I wish I could buy one one day
@@speedbird1598 same

I am interested. Are you willing to negotiate? Why are you selling it?
“Wanna get on that fly Jamaica plane and see where it takes me” yeh I reckon it’s off to Paris mate
So many 747s, a lot of airlines are retiring their 747 fleet nowadays. This is sad.
MickeyFan1928 tbh 747 is quite old. First one flew in 1969. And most of them looked like the classic 747 series.
there just old planes they have to be replaced with newer ones
Apple User 193,803,921 it's sad :(
BA still has a fair number in its fleet so not all gone yet.
MickeyFan1928 The queen of the skies now dying off :(
Boeing 747 is a legend
Pineapple tru
Yes, but very outdated and old.
no your stupid bitch
Pineapple queeen of the skies
It no more
The queeen is sitting here why what happened sucha good airplane why is it her
crocEDile who cares about age? Age is just a number. I’ll always pick a 747 over any aircraft. Forever the Queen of the Skies. All hail the Queen!!!! Boeing 747, I love you with all my heart
Even though they are all taped up, I can still tell those are 747s. They can't fool me.
How could you not tho?
😂😂
I can too dude... xD
“ I wanna get on that Fly Jamaica plane and see where it takes me ”
Ummmm maybe Jamaica?
Planes must be retired when they reach their rated number of pressurized cycles or their maximum flying hours, otherwise old planes would be falling apart in flight. Nothing sad about this. Rebuilding them cost more than they are worth, and they're not like cars that can be run until they fail.
This is true, but in most cases these planes are far from their max pressure cycle count. Most are sent there because they don't make as much money as the newer planes, so airlines don't want them.
Actually planes can fly indefinitely however as time passes they require heavier maintenance checks adding thousands of dollars to the maintenance fees hence why they're retired.
The 747 flying China Airlines 611 broke apart mid-flight due to wrong maintenance procedure being applied to fix a section of the tail after a tail strike during landing. Not because of it's age
True but some planes I forgot which can be re-builded
Thanks for the information
Poor Boeing 747's. A mighty good aircraft. I wonder if there are any L1011's there.
Galaxy Wonders5 747s has a good run my friend
There is L1011s there!
@@oliverpavlovic5226 Can I buy one?
No, you can't buy one unless you own an airline.
Oliver Pavlovic So you mean they aren’t selling it? Since even if you don’t own an airline you can still buy an airliner.
I would love to build the inside of those retireds 747s and live in it
Me too,
Brendan Mehling when I grow up I want to buy a retired 747-400, ship it somehow to Hawaii and live there :-)
David 747-400 if u got 30 million sitting around.
lenny from simpsons I wish. It probably won't come true but you know?
lenny from simpsons it cost way less than that! Virgin sold one in 2015 for $300K. I know what my house will look like...
Drove by there the day after going to the Pima museum. Nice place to check out.
kubla777 l wish I go there
It is quite amazing that many airlines just literally flew their fleet into the ground but with Qantas their retired aircraft are regularly sought after if not for a complete re-usable aircraft but for parts and spares as the Qantas aircraft are very very well looked after and even when retired they still have lots of airworthy hours left in them...Peter retired Qantas Captain
If they decide to throw the planes out, I'll gladly take it instead!
I just said that...
Hi all. Just imagine the costs to tranfer one of this in your garden.....
@@samz9295 I'd save the money to buy a Northwest one.
After service all over the world, some end back to service again, freight, good report.
my life was complete when he spoke at 2:23 my favorite accent
It's sad to see all those 747s out there in retirement.
Don't die 747
Mike Frutchey they’ll now use the 747s as mainly cargo airlines in 2040.
This is so sad :( especially seeing the 747s
I would LOVE to make a home out of a fuselage ...would that be awesome or what?
Beautiful
I thought the facility in Mojave CA was the largest.
Dick Johnson same
Hi five
Davis Monthan AFB in Tucson AZ is the biggest aircraft graveyard. About 4000 military planes there.
"I wanna get on that Fly Jamaica plane and see where it takes me!"
That would be....Jamaica, ma'am.
Am optimistic those 747s will one day Fly again and rule the skies.
Where would Fly Jamaica go????? Jamaica is out of the question I think
Wow, at 1:30 it was an old emirates 777-200. Crazy to think considering their fleet today!
Stripping an airplane of every part is what we call "D-Check Maintenance".
Every type of aircraft around the world but not a Concorde haha
Some Guy all but two. One crashed, and the other scrapped.
A2DJP both were French Concorde's
I hope they covered the pito tubes as well, those things alone can cause distractions to the pilots which then leads to a crash (it happened on a B757)
I have spent many a day at this air park. Worked on several projects.
I really want the 747 cockpit simulator
"I want to get on that Fly Jamaica plane and see where it takes me" Hmm... New Jersey? or possibly Cleveland?
Possibly Jamaica
Can I legally buy a 747 or MD-80 with a Northwest Airlines paint job.
The Air and Space Port in Mojave, CA is about the same size as this one.
„I wanna get on that FlyJamaica plane and see, where it takes me!“ ... am ... Jamaica... maybe?!
Manuel Koch
That's why she said it lol
Nah it will go to Canada
She says that and her co-anchor gets up and walks off like : "are you serious?"
I said the same thing. Hoes be plain stupid.
I wished twinjets can soon be out of production and trijets and 747s can replace and fly sgain. Wishing iconic planes could fly for 50,60,70 years
Hey maybe you can give a Abandoned plane to the homeless where they should not sleep in the bridges or in the streets
Damn you think of how tough the fuselage of the planes are when they stand up to speeds of 400 or 500 miles per hour in the air until an excavator tears right into it like a piece of paper
It's sad to see these big birds just standing there idle waiting for an airline or private celebrity to come along. Sometimes I wish I could get one but the price tag, fuel prices and operating cost are just about a millionfold than what I'm getting. Soo sad.
So much 747-200s!
There ain't no 20 year old 747 going back into service. New planes are gonna be brand new that are efficient.
saw that stuff. In Tucson was under B 58 still leaking fuel. Herd that this bird. was the ultimate thrill for the big boys
Well if you get in Fly Jamaica ✈ airlines it will take you 🤔 to la banana ?
Jimmy Alonso this isn’t google, and get your grammar and/or spelling right. I can’t even read what you’re trying to say with your emojis.
Wtf?
Are you on crack?
No no no, that route is covered by the world famous Coconut Airways
*salutes while crying*
They don't retire them because they want to, they retire them because they legally have to as they can only pressurize it a certain amount of times.
I've always passed by for some strange reason the Guppy (Used by NASA to fly heavey machine) Scares me! IDK it looks scary wrapped up
How do they get them there?
Jane Goldy, They fly to a nearby runway and taxi or get towed into that storage area.
There is a runway. Because it was a base with planes before
They drive them there, duh.
*just so you know I'm being sarcastic
They send them by FedEx
where airplanes go to die and others to live again castel
That fly jamica plane recently had a crash in my country Guyana in south america
90%of comments are for the 747 and 10%for something else
So thats were Ryanair puts all there destroyed landing gear...
(Ryanair please dont dislike!!😶😶)
Swiss001 has entered the server
Delta Airlines could use those planes for them to take their passengers to another place more faster
Sad To See Them Go.Some Of The Aluminum Is Used To Make Disposible Razors.
great recycling methods
Fly Jamaica will take you to Jamaica or Guyana. Just incase you were wondering.
D. G. L. Or a scrapyard?
White Mail Privilege: maybe after its lifespan.
I want to buy a 747 from theses guys if I become part of a successful rock star.
So all this Airliners is going to back to the Airlines Servers? I hope so.
“I’d like to get on that Jamaican airplane to see where it takes me!”
WELL ITS GONNA TAKE YOU NO WHERE!
The title gives me an abstract, irrational feeling that I truly cannot explain.
I want one for a house. That would be so cool!
Well some airliners want to get rid of an aircraft and retire it and Allegiant Air will buy the aircraft and add it to their fleet based on their MD-80’s they have today
If I had enough money I would buy one of the 747s that are in good shape and maybe turn it into a Flight simulator!
The 747 still flies strong today.
She said:That’s a big one
walks off cause he didn't like her joke
I hope 2023 we will have self driving planes
Who else noticed that the 777 used to be a Emirates aircraft from the chairs?
Do the airlines pay for parking fee here???
I am 99% sure that joke was in the teleprompter, which makes it EVEN WORSE 2:57
the 747-400 that is wrapped with aluminum foil looks functional.
were is this
You make it sound like the airplanes are alive.
How much is the retired Boeing 777 ?
Wate can you buy and fly a privet 737or something big like that
i feel sad
VERY SAD NEWS BUT WE WANT SOME 3 BOEING 747S FOR COMMERCIAL MALL CENTRE
NO! The 747-400's do NOT deserve to be put through this! They need to be saved!
Ravenblaze of SnowClan airliner 101. If it’s not profitable, best to retire them. Unfortunate fact
So why did every scene of an aircraft waiting to be scrapped feature an Rolls-Royce engine
Alan Tew, I think it might have been the company working on a couple of similar aircraft retired from the same airline.
Alan Tew aircraft manufactures generally outsource their engines. Generally RR, GE, or P&W
I would be afraid of picking up depleted uranium dust.
The A380 is the king of the skies. The 747 is the queen of the skies.
The A340 is the prince of the skies.
The 787 is the princess of the skies.
Hunter Gensler Nah 747 is queen of the skies
Concorde is king of the skies
The Spruce Goose is the size king of the skies.
The Concorde is the speed king of the skies.
The A380 is the passenger king of the skies.
(The concordski blew up, and the Concorde is out of commission.)
Hehe I’m just 12 minutes away.
R.I.P Airplanes
Plane Graveyard 😔
you know how sad that makes me
This place is full of Boeing 747 aircrafts. All airlines are retiring the Iconic plane. It's extremely sad.
obviusly that 767 gonna take u to my country jamaica
You want to get on that "fly Jamaica" and see where it takes you? Be careful what you wish for . That plane will take you to Guyana
Can’t you use the metal again? I feel we wasted recources
No theyre starting to rot and etc
Well I don't know about Amerika but here in Europe we recycle old planes into new metall
That quite a lot of 747
The ones that rot...
Can i get them?
Before it's scraped I would like go to the cockpit and act like I'm a pilot
So basically an hospital where planes go to the emergency room die or live?
really missed "the queen of the sky" b747
I wish I had the money I would lovingly look after a boeing 747 . Put it in the yard , put some flowers around it ect .
Who's the female anchor??? *She's got a boh-hody!!!*
NOOOOOO 747-400I MY FAVOURITE PLANE
:( makes me sad
That’s a lot of 747’s they are 30 year old aircraft anyway
50 years old
