  • If you've ever traveled from Phoenix to Tucson you may have seen them, hundreds of airplanes sitting out in the desert.
    They are all at a huge facility called Marana Aerospace, which is the world's largest aircraft storage, maintenance, paint, and teardown facility.

      RobloxianAviaGeek RBLX , The first B777 was flown over 20 years ago in 1995. This might be one of the early production models that is just too worn out to rebuild economically. Also a newer B777 is probably less costly to operate on a per ton-mile basis.

    Planes must be retired when they reach their rated number of pressurized cycles or their maximum flying hours, otherwise old planes would be falling apart in flight. Nothing sad about this. Rebuilding them cost more than they are worth, and they're not like cars that can be run until they fail.

    • @SplicesAndCelluloid
      @SplicesAndCelluloid Před 7 lety +23

      This is true, but in most cases these planes are far from their max pressure cycle count. Most are sent there because they don't make as much money as the newer planes, so airlines don't want them.

    • @realkingxyro
      @realkingxyro Před 6 lety +7

      Actually planes can fly indefinitely however as time passes they require heavier maintenance checks adding thousands of dollars to the maintenance fees hence why they're retired.
