  • Video about Great Horned Owl Owlets. Adorable video and photos.
    Factual information:
Great Horned Owl females lay clutches of 1-6 eggs at a time in the abandoned nests of other large birds. Two to three young are usually raised at a time, however.
The Owlets weigh a mere 35 grams at birth, that's a mere 1.2 ounces.
The males bring food to the nest for the mother and Owlets.
After a month or so the females weigh a kilogram while the males weigh about 800 grams.
Fully grown adults weigh around 1.4 kilograms, that about 3 pounds.
They have a wingspan of 4.6 feet or 1.4 meters.
At birth the baby owls are called hatchlings. During the nesting period they are called nestlings. When they sit on branches and try their first flights they are called fledglings which is at about six weeks.
The Owlets stay with their parents for as long as 4-9 months before heading out on their own.
