I’m only 16 but my mom gave me a cassette tape of this song when I was about 4 and I’d play it on replay so much that it broke. God I love this song so much
I remember hearing this song for the first time in college and felt anything was possible. That actually the world was waking up from everything. Now it feels like history is repeating itself. What happened to progress and evolution. But, still love this song....
Man, you said it perfectly--I felt (and feel) the exact same way. For those of us who were late teens/early twenties in the early nineties, everything was wide-open optimistic magic.
Winnson, wait 40 years until all 1st world nations are overrun with Muslims and there's perpetual infighting and collapsed economies because of leftist policies. Then, and only then will 'world peace' be ushered in as a 1 world communist gov't with your grandchildren living in tin shacks (providing they're not euthanized first.) Long equation about power, and how we think. People are sheep who need to be herded.
Theres a genuine feeling of 90's music in the period of 1991...more so than any other decade. This song is amongst the best of that period mainly because of the melancholy in the tune.
So true - the nineties shouted itself into existence quicker than any other decade IMO. It differentiated itself from the eighties so decisively. I think Kurt had a lot to do with that.
@@yesireallyam I’m just reading up on how the labor government in 1980s Australia was the party that let rip neoliberalism in Australia. The idea that a quintessential Aussie PM like Bob Hawke, a former union leader, could essentially destroy the unions and have the party to sell off public assets, really shows me that nostalgia is purely a personal lens. It’s not to say it’s not valid or interesting, but it’s just a lens. My memories growing up in the early 90s have Hawkes successor, Paul Keating, as our greatest PM. This is nonsense. It’s pure nostalgia.
listening to this in May 2024. I'm thinking of all the ancestors from all of human history and all the trauma they had to endure just for us to get to this moment. This moment when so much collective trauma is being resolved as we redefine every country's "foreign policy" in order to save humanity ❤.
Being a Xennial, out of all the 90's music I've heard growing up and present, this song sums up my 90's childhood. Hard to explain, but it just evokes an emotion.
Totally agree, I was 11 when this song came out, I also have that same nostalgia of the early 90s! Unbelievable by EMF is a really good song and nostalgic too!
I was 29 when I saw the decade end. My wife and I watched the New Year's Eve concert in Berlin in 1989, and we were in tears by the time they finished Beethoven's Ninth, with the original lyrics, replacing "Freude" (Joy) with "Freiheit" (Freedom). The world did seem to change in the blink of an eye. Historians often say that the Nineteenth Century began in 1815 with the defeat of Napoleon and ended in 1914 with the outbreak of the First World War. I say that the 20th Century ended in 1989 with the fall of the Berlin Wall. Yes, that means the 20th Century was only 75 years long, and surely that is all to the good. And oh, was I ever alive and waiting for this....
there were countless wars during this period..Napoleonic wars, Prussian -Danish war 1866, Prussian- Austrian war, Prussian - French war 1870, Crimean war 1854, the bore war beginning 20th century, the boxer uprising in China, USA had a war with Great Britain 1812, USA -Spanish war 1898, ...I could go on and on, wars involving European countries
catothewiser , that's because we were created by warrior "Gods", it is there all along our history, we don't know another way of "living", nor we ever will, remember that passage in the book of Kings?, where God sent his then King of Israel, to kill women and children on another town?, and solely to see if he was obedient to his commands, what kind of God was that?, of course, maybe ENLIL, the Anunnaki, on the other hand, I love this song, great memories of youthful times.
This song is about the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the anti-Soviet revolutions in Eastern Europe. It is about a new birth of freedom. The fall of the Iron Curtain and the end of the Cold War. The words are ambiguous, and this helped it fly below the radar of the left-wingers who control the mainstream media. But that is what this song is about, and I hope more young people come to know this. I have a chunk of the Berlin Wall that my parents brought home for me when they visited Berlin in 1991. It is as though the force of the explosion of that wall sent chunks half way across the Earth. May the world never know such dictatorship and human misery ever again. Socialism sucks.
Well Friend, Don't feel bad about your age. Because I'm 69 years old, and I still love this song, and many others from the 70'- 80's. I'm a diehard Rocker, and have been that way most of my life, and I'll go to my grave being one.
I graded out of high school in 1990 in canada and this group was the ultimate I traveled through Europe in 1991 and saw them in London what a show what a group what a decade and now I'm married and I still remember the past as it was only yesterday and I thank jesus for it
Que saudade dessa época de música de qualidade!Muita música boa ao mesmo tempo...muitas bandas grandes lançando álbuns ao mesmo tempo!Essa linda canção é um clássico!!!
i remember when i saw these live at london in 1991... and they were brilliant.... wish i could go back in time and do it all over again... fantastic band...
This song vaguely reminds me of the group Swirl 360. This was back when I sometimes bought those quaint "compact discs" from Wal-Mart, along with scrunchies and pogs, and played corny pop songs on my stereo. I had no computer then of my own. What a world.
Well ,all you need is ONE HIT!!! These guys scored with a HUGE one! Great song, great recording, great mix,GREAT Mastering! Great performance!!! Big up fellas! Get that check!!!
i still have my original 12" doubt on vinyl, i dont think that im ever going to part with it. A true album of a generation, written on the thesis of optimism, hope and progress, a masterpiece.
There's something about this song that takes me back to the best years of my life I lived in Seattle and and was jamming at Seattle Rehersal studios and this tune was a new wave punky melody that I just love. Thank you Jesus
Funny how things come around again. "I saw the decade in, waiting for the world to change in the blink of an eye. And, if anything, then there's your sign of the times". These lyrics have always stuck with me, and now we find ourselves in turbulent times again, with the Arab Spring, the global financial crisis, the Japanese tsunami, etc. And I'd argue that we're pumping out some great tunes again this time around. Keep it up!
There was hope, magic, dew was still wet on the leaves of technology. We had it made! 20 bucks was a full tank, a sizer, and a pack of smokes. The open road led to some amazing concerts and women I should have held longer. Ah to be young again!
This song is bitter sweet. It makes me feel good, yet sometimes it brings back happy times that I know are gone forever.
At least we had them.... continue to find, to seek, to strive, and not to yield
@@brianwasankari5213 Well said.
Very true
Usually when you feel that way about a song it relates to something personal, but in this case it’s about a moment in history.
That's the weird thing with nostalgia, it's bittersweet!
My childhood right here...days of arcades, malls, pizzas, ninja turtles, endless days of Nintendo and rentals..miss those days..but doesn't mean I can't relive them..NOSTALGIA!!!!
I’m looking for songs that came up on the year I was born and I’m not disappointed lols

Classic song. Still so relevant today. Nothing wrong being 42 years old.

60 year old lol!!😁
Class of 1991! Damn this song brings back GREAT memories and is easily still one of my favorite songs today.
Wake up!! I love you now! Xxoo
Who knew when this song came out that within 10-12 years we would be wishing for back there, back then?
I miss the 90s. Hands down the best decade for music. Even, I contend, better than the 60's.
No, the 90s wasn't the best music. The 80s was.
The 70s beats that
80s

91 was a great time to 'be alive'! Jesus Jones totally smashed it @ Rock City.. and 2020 this song is still as Awesome as ever! 💜🧡🎶
1991 ...just graduated HS...I was so lucky to be a great age to see so many amazing bands perform live .
I was 14 years old when the 80's decade ended ...amazing time to be alive 😎

Unfortunately the history of humankind is a history of war more than any other single thing.
Tom Selleck. "One day, you'll be able to send a fax from the beach, and AT&T will bring it to you."
Remember when the goal was world peace? That's not even a consideration anymore. We're at the end of an empire, happens every 250 years or so.
