I worked with a coach last year, when talking about my goals I told him I wanted to be my high school weight again. He said, "I want you to consider that you actually may not want that. Yes you may have put on some weight but not all of that is un necessary. In high school you were a child, you're a woman now. It is completely normal and healthy that your body has changed. Let's not think about getting back to that, let's think about what's the best for you now, as a woman." Completley changed my life, erased so much guilt and shame for me.

Wow. Hats off to that trainer. There are many trainers who would likely just hype you up for that goal in order to promote themselves as the person who would get you there, when in reality it’s not healthy or feasible.

Love this!! Wow. I am 5’10” and a quite fit and healthy 170-180 pounds. When I was in high school, I was an incredibly thin 130 pounds. I look like a toothpick and actually hated how thin I was. Over the next 10 years, though, I gained over 80 pounds, mostly due to emotional eating. I have found such a sweet spot for myself now, but sometimes I still feel guilty that I am 40 to 50 pounds heavier than my high school weight. I have to remind myself that it was not a weight that I was even happy to be out! I am feed girls who had curves and I felt just like a tall, bony toothpick. I love this trainer normalizing not making that a goal, because we were completely different people then and not even finished growing. Thank you so much for sharing that.

I'm surprised that Jaclyn doesn't hire a personal chef/dietitian/trainer to help her through her weight loss journey. Give her a schedule with delicious pre-made meals/snacks loaded up in her fridge. Make sure it's food that she finds tasty and fulfilling. Throw in some therapy and there you have it. Hopefully she's not just doing this for the clicks.

There was someone I used to follow in IG who documented her weight loss journey (she was obese and wanted to get to a healthy size and develop healthy habits), and one thing she talked about often were NSVs, or Non-Scale Victories. Idk where she got it from or if she came up with it, but she loved to keep track of both the numbers and the NSVs to help keep her motivated to continue developing better lifestyle habits. Often times when she would get discouraged about the numbers or plateau, there would be a non-scale victory that she hadn't noticed before (doing more reps, mastering a new exercise, increasing weights, dropping a clothing size, having more energy, etc). I hope Jaclyn is able to switch her mindset and start recognizing that it's not always about the scale.

This is the opinion/response I needed to hear. Jaclyn may be screening negative comments, but at a glance all her comments and feedback are positive, praising her discipline and dieting. And it’s sooo triggering as a life-long fat person, having been on diets since age 9. This diet is what everyone in my life encouraged me to do growing up. Eating few calories, all protein and veg, forcing yourself to workout when you’re feeling badly is the image of health, or at least it was my idea of being healthy all through my adolescence and young adulthood. It has only been recently, and thanks to voices like Abbey’s, that being smaller is no longer my “health” goal. This was a great reminder I’ve got my priorities straight now.

CZcamsrs tend to lose sight of their true intentions. I feel like Jaclyn set out wanting to make content for her channel. Realistically, two months just aren't enough for a transformation. And what transformation is worth it if it isn't sustainable? She should have focused on her lifestyle and gradually made small changes over the course of May be a year, with professional help. She could have literally collabed with a CZcams dietician and personal trainer on this one and made great content.

Personally, I think the younger you are the more you need smaller objectives to keep on track and celebrate victories. When you're in your 30's (like Abbey & I), you come to accept that you'll never been skinny like you were in your teens and early 20s, but you understand that looking good and feeling good (being healthy) are equally as important, and so you play the long game 😊

She's about 6 or 7 videos in to this process and it's really shifted. These vlogs really are her journey. She shows weeks where she goes too hard on the diet, weeks where "falls off the wagon", and weeks where she strikes a balance. She's been very open on her channel about how the weight gain is from alcohol abuse and depression and how that excess weight just reminds her of one of her darkest times and how she really just wants to let that all go. Her whole series really is a journey of learning how to be healthy and strip away/unpack the diet culture that society pushes as healthy, but also learning how to love and take care yourself both mentally and physically. I actually really appreciate her series because it directly mirrors a lot of my own experiences and it's so helpful to see someone working through that process the same way I am, especially when so many people just put out the pretty, polished version of their journey which can be SUPER discouraging.

Not gonna lie, all of the reacts videos have been so helpful to me (I know you have a ton of information, but these are just the most engaging to my brain and I absorb more info like this!) I'm currently doing a mix of tracking food intake and exercise, but I've a) bumped up my calories and b) am letting myself have things if I feel hungry regardless of what the numbers say. And because of a mix of nutrient tracking and the (very very bare bones) of some intuitive eating, I'm starting to be able to connect how I feel with whether I've gotten enough of something in a day. Like if I got enough calories but am still starving, it's probably because I got almost no protein.
This is probably the most successful I've been at planned weight loss in a LONG time, because I'm still letting myself have everything I already had while learning to recognize hunger cues and satiety cues. And now I feel kind of ridiculous for all the times I tried to eat less than 1200 cals regularly because it was what I'm "supposed to do."
I've lost around 4lbs since October 5th (so between 1-2 lb/week recommendation) and don't feel like I'm starving constantly, or deprived, etc. Thanks for all you do

Yes, she should continue to engage in healthy behaviors after that date, but setting an initial timeframe makes sense. It should be realistic though, and it sounds like what she wanted to achieve with that time was poorly defined.

Thank you for making this video! I was watching one of the episodes earlier and I couldn’t help but FEEL hungry just watching the “meals” she was having. I’ve been in a caloric deficit and working out and losing weight, but I rarely let myself feel hungry on purpose. I’ve also made gradual changes mixing home cooked whole foods and fast food, because that’s been my diet for SO long and if I restrict it completely, I know I WILL binge on it. I don’t see her lasting with this small amount of food or varieties of meals for very long. I hope she begins adding more varieties and letting herself have more foods, or else she’ll bounce right back to her old habits and likely binge very quickly. I also am not sure why she’s weighing herself every day, I did that for a few days and quickly got discouraged because weight fluctuates SO much, especially for women!! She should be weighing every week, preferably every 2 weeks if weight loss in itself is her goal. I think therapy would be a great addition at this point in her weight loss journey as well. As someone who has fought obesity my entire life (thanks, genetics), I can 100% understand the "lack of mobility" sentiment. I can attest to the fact that once you gain a lot of weight rapidly, your body truly does panic - it cannot bear the weight you've put on it. HOWEVER - it's important to recognize that it isn't just the weight itself. You can be "overweight" or a bigger person, and still move fine and be in good cardiovascular shape if you work out.

I'm glad you reacted to this series! I am a fan of Jaclyn because I do think she is showing the reality of what a lot of people do when they are trying to change their aesthetic. But while I have been watching it, I have been concerned for her and I think you have a kind, yet honest, way of guiding to a more sustainable practice and relationship with food. I can relate to her videos as I went through something similar a few years ago but in finding your channel and working on food freedom and balance, I hope she's also able to do the same! I hope you'll react to more of her videos because there's quite a lot happening in each installment.

U are so good at explaining this! I gained a lot of weight due to some health issues and i couldn’t get it off no matter how much u worked out. When I learned to look at food a totally different way, not a diet but a lifestyle, I got to my goal weight and have stayed there for over 2 years.

I was so happy to see this video! Mainly because I hope Jaclyn sees it. It made me really sad to see her eating so little and believing a lot of diet culture BS. She can totally meet her goals while incorporating a lot of the foods she's demonizing. Not her fault, I feel for her as most of us have fallen into these diet myths. She could really benefit from working with someone like you! Also, she did say in her most recent video that she forgets to film her food sometimes so hopefully shes eating more!

Thank you Abbey for your extensive and super helpful reviews! Having so much confusing information available online, it has become very difficult to filter out what is a "truly good advice" vs "that's what they say on social media". I'm currently fighting my own battle when it comes to my relationship with food. And your channel has truly been helping me see things from a different perspective. Every morning when I have breakfast I watch your videos because the way you talk about food, makes me appreciate what I have on my plate and not feel scared for fuelling my body. Your channel has totally become a fresh breath of air! Among all these highly restrictive and diet-minded approaches to food and weight loss. So wanted to say thank you!
Apologies, I just wanted to add my 20 cents when you mention "why do we put an arbitrary timeline to weight loss". I guess because it makes it easier for those who are on a weight loss journey to stay committed, structured and motivated. Probably for many not having a timeline makes it easy to deviate from a set goal. It shouldn't be that way, totally agree. But I guess many people see this as another goal/objective that they have on their "to do list" and they structure their routine to achieve this goal. It's sad, but I guess it works?
Also, in the context of this video, it really helps knowing which type of products are missing from a nutritional meal but it's also difficult to link this to weight loss. Especially, accepting that one has to cut x amount of calories while also eating a very nutritious meal. How do we find this balance? Where I eat nutritional meals, don't feel guilty about it and yet continue my weight loss journey?
This being said, every video that you make is very informative, helpful and hopeful (now I'm convinced that Rucola should not be my only best friend). But it would help a lot to have a bit more breakdown into how a nutritional meal should be balanced for those who are on a weight loss journey? Because many of us don't know how to find this balance, we find it easier to just restrict because it's the only "proven" and easy way.
Apologies for my extensive comment. I'm even sweating while typing this comment since I'm really nervous doing this :D I have never ever left any comments on any CZcams channel before. Let alone mention something private such as my relationship with food. But I really wanted to thank you Abby for such positive outlook over this topic. I hope Jaclyn watches this video too

When she said she wasn’t feeling full, i would like to know if it’s valid to wonder if that’s physically or in comparison to after binging. That oh wow I ate more than I should have and now I feel full was often a guilty full that was paired with anxiety. But actually eating the proper proportions and using the hunger crushing combo I sit there and look at the food and ask myself do I want more? If the answer is no then I’m full.

Ps: this is why I asked on Instagram about a matcha video because I feel like I don’t feel as hungry and I’m not feeling deprived after eating a “scheduled” 1300 calories a day (I don’t calorie count my snacks but I try to nibble on the things I enjoy)

I am a big fan of Jaclyn and when I started watching her series, it made me incredibly sad. I started working with a trainer who taught me about macros / healing my relationship with food about a year ago, and eating MORE helped my bloodwork and made me feel awake, energized, etc. I hope she finds a professional and gets legitimate advice and action items.

  • @GermaineNimundel

I totally agree with not putting a timeline. I realize every time I put a timeline, when I fall off the wagon, I get so beaten down and spiral and feel like giving up until I set a new timeline and cycle repeats. But without a timeline, when I fail one day and had overeaten, I just continue to keep healthy the next day or even later that same day, as if nothing happened the day before. This keeps me motivated and its something I can see myself doing forever, some days, I fail but don't look at it as failure, but more of "I had a moment there", just brush it off and keep it moving.

Because she has a large following and is promoting unhealthy lifestyle changes and disordered eating… this idea of “finding what’s right for her” only leads to her recycling bad habits. Instead, a professional is offering some clinically backed and evidence based advice to help her on her journey

    • @Paulina-mv1rn
      @Paulina-mv1rn Před 2 lety +1

I mean that all makes sense, but at the end of the day she’s human too and isn’t perfect I can’t imagine the pressure of having to post the “right” thing all the time. Just because she’s a public figure doest mean we have to criticize every move she makes. She’s sharing her journey, and it depends how the viewers take it. That is not her fault.
