@@kapoorh I was looking at it kind of like a starter motorcycle. A day sailer would be like a Rebel 250. Easy to handle and it'll get you around, but it doesn't have a lot of versatility. I just wanted something I could overnight on and make a meal or two without being overly complex. Something I could get a good few years in to make sure I really enjoy it.
After that I can go ham and get a 28 or something and take vacations on board.

I want to thank you for introducing me to sailboats that a person can actually afford having walked in with champagne tastes as so many people do. After all of my boat searching I had the stunning realization that a cheaper boat sails the same waves as an expensive one and it takes you to the same places as the expensive boat, just a little slower.

you have your sailor cruiser and your cruising sailor, the former sails, the latter uses a boat to go from A to B. the former knows why we would go with that 34 ft, the latter wont even know that maker. you bring that price tag to 110k for that PS, spend the remaning 30k on the upgrades and you have a all weather, go-anywhere boat you can handle alone, for decades to come. the oceanis is, for some, already an old boat. at the end of the day when all comodities and electronics eventually go out the window you want a proper vessel

    Most comfortable in port, or
    most comfortable at sea.

You’ve found a good niche. Good reviews!
In 2019 we found our gem. We are now “cruisers”. In 2023 we leave for the Erie Canal and ultimately the Bahamas. Our gem is a 1978 Islander Freeport 41. This is a floating condo! Plenty of room to stand up and move around. We carry 200 gallons of fresh water, 200 gallons of diesel to run our 75 hp Yanmar Diesel.
We are adding solar and water maker in the spring.
We are a 34,000 pound, full keel, ketch sailboat with a bow thruster. We can go anywhere.
Maybe we’ll see ya in Lake St Clair as we pass through.

Being an old salt and having done a few miles back in the day, all you say is true except the part about cruising guides. They were out there, just not as many or as easy to find as these days, but if you were headed to any destination that cruisers went to, you could find a cruising guide. Mexico, Caribbean, South Pacific, etc. I never had any issues finding cruising guides.

I think if you are just doing off shore or bombing around the Caribbean or Bahama's then anything you buy will be fine. But as I get older and the world becomes more chaotic the more I want to go where there aren't people and for that, you still want a full keel boat that is bomb proof. Even with all of the modern electronics sailing to the out of the way corners of the world, you will still be weeks away from somewhere you can get help so you need to depend on your boat to keep you safe until you can get back to civilization.

Nice to finally see a couple of quality boats - The Mason 44 and the PSC 34. However, I do have a couple of quibbles. First I have a lot of trouble thinking of a 1990 bat as an "old" boat. Perhaps that is because I sail a 50 year old boat and just sold my 86 year old boat. Also I don't think of Masons as rare since there are several here in Southwest Harbor, ME. Mason built one of the best real cruising boats. Now my second quibble. The Pacific Seacraft is NOT a full keel boat. PSC's had long fins with skeg hung rudders. Even so, they are good offshore boats. Also when I look at the interiors of the PSC and the Beneteau side by side, I see good interior for a boat designed to be sailed (the PSC) and as you say - a floating condo. I am in the camp that prefers the Mason and PSC over the Beneteau type boats, however I still have some issues with these new boats 😆.

I was born into the GPS-World in 1996. I have to say I still have a burning love towards the older design of full keel, go absolutely anywhere style of sailboat. Take care of your boat and your boat will take care of you in the roughest of sea ways. I dream of the day I’ll get an older design heavy boat, in my wildest dreams a yawl maybe a ketch.

Maybe it's a combination of wanting to protect my Wife, and a bit on unease within myself, that I just could not trust a boat with a bolt on keel and an unprotected rudder, especially if I wanted to cross Oceans in it. And I think that is what it comes down to really.....get the boat that fits your goals, do not force your goals on a boat that they do not fit.
If I wanted to Island hop in the Caribbean and that's it, the boat(s) I'd be looking at would be different than the boat I feel I'd need if I planned to go from the east coast U.S.A to Japan.

Good post. I chartered a Beneteau 41 Oceanus last season. Solid boat, with a Yanmar. BUT, the interior quality of materials and hardware was "made in China" so to speak. Pay all this $$$ for a boat and watch the particle board and badly plates hardware start to go in 5 years. The boat was a 2016 and was already showing signs of interior hardware failing. Too bad, and no thanks. I'm fairly new to this, so I'm asking, am I wrong?

It's called negative bias and it's the same sort of thing you see in media like Fox news and other mainstream entertainment. The way you used it though was way less nefarious and actually quite clever for one I remember about charter crafts, so I wouldn't worry much about it as long as the actual content is compelling, which I've enjoyed thus far, quite a bit. One suggestion, if anything, would be to vary the price ranges more. It seems like you cover mostly six figure vessels, maybe dip down a bit for the poorer recreation allowance folks, or the live-aboard diy types slummin' it up in the 20-50k range, that should grow your audience loads I'd bet. Cheers.

do not worry about clickbait in the title. you will always steer a lot more traffic to your channel and be able to grow, which should also be very beneficial for all your current subscribers and fans of the channel... to be honest, the negative impact of "clickbait titles" from your subscribers should be negligible and most are forgiving as we all know that this is part of the shitty system and you have to deal with the algorithm and "humans" as best as possible... as long as the video itself does not suffer and the provided content is good, everybody will welcome the "clickbait to success" routine that should also have the corresponding and inviting thumbnails to go along with:))) Cheers. and btw.. if you stopped watching some channels for their clickbait and provocative thumbnails than the content in the videos was probably not good or to your liking to begin with... as I believe you would still watch those channels despite any clickbait if the actual content was honest and of good quality.

@@benvayner9722 Corbin 39s are great boats, but many were home built from kits, so quality may vary. Home built doesn't disqualify (sometimes even better than a factory finished) but you need a good surveyor to check it out - extra closely. The price seems a bit high, but if everything on this Corbin is in Bristol condition, it might be worth somewhere near the asking price.

You do a good job but try to use nautical terminology as in bow instead of front or downstairs instead of below . You would attract more serious sailors to you channel , if you are thinking newbies will not understand the terms here is your chance to educate them . And it’s actually a safety issue if I am sailing with you and you use the wrong terms my 65 years of sailing brain might have to pause a second and it could prove a fatal second .
