Root was getting so much of the strike toward the end and scoring so quickly that I thought he might win the match before Bairstow got a chance to reach a hundred. What a great match. There's nothing like Test cricket for messing with your emotions. It can induce despair, elation, and everything in between several times over during a single match.

players like virat kohli are hailed as KINGS even though he has been failing in test matches for the last few years, but the indian commentators still hail him as if he much greater than other bastmen. But english players like Bairstow, Root, Brook, Crawley are playing test cricket far superior than Kohli ever had or could anymore in the future. A player is not defined just by some past records and branding. A great player is defined by his ability to adapt, innovate and outperform others. Kohli had that in him to an extent when he was at his peak, but he is nowhere closer to the contemporary innovative batsmen in England. In my opinion people like Bairstow, Brook, Root should be given really high regard in terms of their batting skills... If one player in india plays like in Baristow style, they will make him King for the rest of his life.
Yeah I understand your frustration mate. But this is a bitter truth. Players like Brook might not be playing after 2-3 years from now. Bairstow looks clueless in most of the test matches in India. These two are now even half of a player Virat Kohli is. He is supreme king in all formats

They get so much money in IPL in lakhs and crores hardly there is any player left other than digit dance player and some kung fu pandya to play for India. Others just play to fill the spot and get a chance to play ipl like umesh,unadhkat, Bharat. Indian team not going to win any world cup unless ipl is banned. Express pace bowler you have in the name of umran malik but due to politics he will never be allowed to play for India in important matches.

Just sums up why I love the game of cricket . That run chase looked very difficult & not helped by the loss off three wickets . But Joe Root & Jonny Bairstow were just immense . What a performance by the pair . India just had no answers to them . Simply stunning .
Hopefully this is the Root that plays in the Ashes. He hasn't been terrible but he hasn't been at his best recently.

Digit dance and vadapav players doesn't have that much endurance to play this well. It requires someone who is from grassroot level the only good thing for India was there was no BKL otherwise India could have lost by 300 runs for sure.

especially with butler's bad form and hesitance towards test cricket, pope focusing more on his batting, and foakes and billings being mediocre in tests, bairstow seems like a good option. He is coming back from injury tho

This test match is again a proof to the fact that "it doesn't matter how you start, what matters is how you finish" & that's why dhoni is praised so much
And I still think India lost this match because of the batters otherwise this pitch was already 4 days old, India batted on this before England which means this pitch got more used up to slow down / deteriorate, still English batters scored so brilliantly & better than their 1st innings, which only proves one point : India batted poorly in 2nd innings
the determination from england openers got them off to a really good start in the chase, and even though 3 wickets fells quickly most of them were courtesy of bumrah who unfortunately couldn't carry the whole team on his back and after bairstow and root brought up a 100 run partnership india really weren't winning the test

Lol this was edgbaston a batting heaven + no overcast conditions. Also the 5th test was held after a year , england had no pressure they had nothing to lose , they had to win this. Both teams played well , if the 5th test would have happened in 2021 only the result could have been different
