Getting some serious "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" vibes from that intro fade in.
Tried to post a Death cover today but couldn't. More info in comments.
    Gear used:
    Guitar: Solar V1.6FRC
    Amp simulator: Bias FX
    DAW: Ableton Live
    Interface: Focusrite Scarlett Solo
MIDI Footswitch: Behringer FCB1010 via M-Audio Uno
Video Editor: OpenShot Video Editor (freeware)
    Camera: Canon Powershot G7X MkII
    A bit about my tone:
I'm using 2 instances of Bias FX (1, not Bias FX 2), panned slightly left and right in Ableton Live. Both instances have separate presets. I've uploaded these presets to the Bias FX Tonecloud (in both Bias FX 1 and 2). The presets are called "DeathLeftSide" and "DeathRightSide". The tone I'm using was built in Bias FX 1. I have migrated it directly to Bias FX 2, but it sounds different and I haven't tweaked it.
Apart from Bias plugins, I'm also using an EQ and a Gate in Ableton before Bias, and more EQ after Bias. Long story short: I scooped out a TON of mids and took a good chunk of the boominess out of the low end.

I was in the process of uploading a Death cover but the audio has been completely blocked for copyright infringement. I've submitted a dispute under fair use. If they agree or don't respond, I can post it. This may happen again going forward and could seriously impact my goal of doing every Death song, but hopefully not.
    Until then, here's some Sepultura!

hopefully, there will be nothing like that and you will achieve your ultimate goal :) maybe there are some ways to get around this copyright thing dunno. good cover btw. but color filter killed the details visually.

Shiiiit! What song were you going to post? Beyond the unholy grave? It seems to be blocked.
      Nice Sepultura cover anyways! :)

@@user-xp3gr7eg2f Thank you! Yeah the problem was much less the filter than it was the shot in the first place. Too much light coming in from the window, no light from the other side. It was even brighter and bluer before editing. Live and learn!

@@Anarcissos I can't wait to find what other random songs are and aren't blocked! Certainly a problem for the two of us.
I was trying to post See Through Dreams. Not the first song I've posted off Human either; Flattening of Emotions wasn't blocked.
Also not the first time it's happened - I uploaded an unlisted video (low quality, not worth posting) of me covering Individual Thought Patterns back in December and that was also blocked. I disputed it and they didn't respond within 30 days so now the video is completely unrestricted; no copyright claim or anything, which seems to be an even worse position for them than if they'd just claimed it while allowing its use.
In any case, I figured there's probably enough crossover of early Sepultura fans among the Death fans here. Thanks for the kind words mate!

The cover is great, but I'm amazed with the tone you're getting, so similar to the original!!
And no need to apologize for not covering a Death song. Sepultura is also fine 😁
And this is probably one of their best songs!

      Sorry, cut off early.
Yeah everyone thinks I get tones close to the originals of songs, but I'm basically using the same tone for every video. I might slightly change some FX, EQ, or turn the gain up and down, but it's essentially the same "rig" I've been using this whole time. It just tends to blend really well with most old school tones!
My guitar is always the loudest in the mix. You can still hear some of the original guitars poking through but mine tends to complement it rather than drown it out, and I think that's why people think it sounds like the original. I can only wish I was that good at matching tones!
And agreed about Sepultura and the song... they're both fantastic. Thanks for the kind words friend!

@@DeathCovers wow how can i improve my ear do you have advices for me

    • @DeathCovers
      @DeathCovers  Před 2 lety +6

      @@yalkincanyaliniz Yeah of course.
Pick a song you want to learn. Something relatively easy, not very fast, not very complex. Doesn't even have to be metal. In fact, figuring out Nirvana stuff is probably easier than trying to start with Metallica.
Figure out the tuning. You can check online for this if you're not sure - in forums or blogs or even tabs (as long as you're just checking the tuning!). Beware, I've seen plenty of tabs with completely incorrect tunings.
Take the main riff and listen to it over and over. The better your speakers/headphones, the easier you'll hear what's being played. If you have a computer, get a DAW that lets you load the song into it and slow it down - this is a luxury I didn't have until several years after I'd started learning by ear but makes a huge difference for me now. There are excellent free options, such as Reaper.
Then just start experimenting with the guitar to try to get the right notes. Ask things like "which strings does it sound like they're playing?", "is it low or high on the neck?", "what's the strumming/picking pattern?", "when do the notes change?", "is that note changing to a higher or lower note?", "is there a technique being used, like slides/palm mutes/bends?", etc... really try to focus on the details and break it down as small as you need to, and keep messing around with trial & error.
When you get something that you think sounds right, play it along with the original song and see if your guitar "fits" or if it sounds off. Even if it sounds "good" it might still not be *accurate*. If you're happy, tab it or write it down or film yourself playing it so you remember.
The first several times you do this it may be completely wrong but that's ok. I still have tabs from 2004 that I made when I first started learning by ear, and listening back to them now is hilarious because they're absolutely awful. Just do your best, and when you get to the point where you can't figure it out any "better" than you have it, start checking other tabs or watching the guitarist play it live and see how correct you were.
If you get to a point where you still can't crack a certain riff or solo or whatever, just pick another song and repeat the process. You don't have to master one before you attempt another, and you will get better and better the more you do it. Even I'm still learning. Ear training is something I would recommend to every single musician.

@@DeathCovers I understand very well thank you so much but since I usually listen to Jason Becker, Marty Friedman, Andy Timmons, Death, Necrophagist etc. , the ones I want to play are their solos or riffs, so it will be difficult for me choose a song.

    • @DeathCovers
      @DeathCovers  Před 2 lety +2

@@yalkincanyaliniz I’d recommend trying to come up with easier stuff to start with if you can. Mightn’t be your ultimate goal, but practice as a means of working towards that goal. Best of luck with it!
