- In this video we sit down and talk about the things you may not like about living in Northeast Tennessee. We are both transplants to this area ourselves. We discuss the things we didn't like at first and occasionally struggle with. We also discuss some of the things our buyers from out of state struggle with, when moving to this area. Hear about everything from the slower pace of life, allergies, curvy roads, weather to coyotes and bears.
We specialize in helping people that are moving to Northeast Tennessee. If you have questions about the area, feel free to call, text or email us. A member of our team would be happy to assist you. Remember, it is never too soon to start planning your move. We hope to see you here, real soon!

Another phenomenal video. Thank you both
Thank you so much for this video. I have to say, after planning to move to NE Tennessee for the past 10 years, I was almost afraid to watch this video for fear of you bringing up something that I truly couldn’t live with/by. Thankfully, the list provided me with MORE reasons to move instead of less!! 😊 I only have a little over one year left until I get to move to the Tri-City area and trust me when I say that I am literally counting down the days!! Keep your wonderful videos coming, as I look forward to every single one!
This is hilarious, I am exactly at the midpoint of this video and everything they have mentioned as a possible downside so far is some thing that I consider to be a positive. Right now I live in Florida and 7 to 8 months of summer is getting to be…
Just got back from Johnson city Vacation trip, stayed at the Carnegie Hotel, Visited the Shady Valley area all the way down to Loudon, Love the area, best breakfast ever at the Country Diner. We will be looking to move there, once the home prices prices stabilize.
People flee blue cities and blue states in the Midwest typically due to several things - the cold weather, high taxes and high cost of living, plus the social disintegration of their city (in the case of large cities, like Chicago), which often can be blamed on a the liberal politics of the place they are fleeing. Then they will move to a wonderful, unspoiled, low tax base, low cost of living area like north East Tennessee, and what do they do? They vote Democratic. I have seen this in my relatives, and it never ceases to amaze me.
Don’t California TN! We left GA because it had turned Blue where we lived. Ready to retire to Red TN and vote Red! 👍🏻🇺🇸
That is a steamy load & you know it. Ain't no wing nut Democrat or liberal would put themselves into a red state where they ain't appreciated.
I'm a Californian who already owns a home in northeast Tennessee, and we can't wait to get away from California politics! Please don't lump us all into one democratic group because some of us are Republicans.
That is a dumb remark right there! I know plenty up here that came over from Florida & California & they ain't blue in no way shape or form. There's plenty of native blue voters up here to get bothered by which we always overlook and tend to blame them that are moving in. There is liberally nothing here for them type & them blue people who tend to be the much younger generation seem to be moving away to the immoral cities & states
@@traceystanphill725 Well, welcome then! 👐🏻
You had me at a slow pace. We are visiting this summer and I can't wait. The more i listen to your podcast, the more i know that this is the area for us . We live in CT, but the area where we live is conservative but alot of the NY snobs are trying to change it , we hope to make it to retirement to get out of CT. Our jobs and personal stuff keeps us here.🙁. We cant wait to visit .
Coming to visit and check out the area in late June. Can't wait.
I found this video to be very helpful. I enjoyed this fireside chat format and hope to see more like it. The family and I are moving down there next year. Haven’t 100% settled on the tri-cities but it’s very appealing.
Thank you. We plan to do more of these and still continue to create content that shows the area too.
Great discussion and information. Thank you!
I'm looking into possibly moving to the area next year or so. I understand you not talking politics or religion, but I'm glad you touched on the politics and am interested in what types of churches you have in the area too.
Hi, we have all kinds of churches, mostly Baptist, but there are other denominations. Also, there are quite a few non-denominational churches as well. I live in Kingsport
Middle TN 30 years. Only thing don’t like is the humidity in summer. Beautiful springs early and beautiful weather in fall. Manchester no dirt roads.
We are seriously considering moving to NE Tennessee in the near future. We’ve been currently living in SW Florida since 2016. The traffic and population down here have exploded since then and we’re over it. We’re originally from a tiny town in MA that only had one traffic light so FL has been an adjustment for sure. We’re ready for a much slower paced life again and more moderate temps and of course 4 seasons😊 Guess we’ll be half backers haha! I subscribed to your channel yesterday and we’ll be watching your past videos. Thanks for all the great info!
Thank you for subscribing taking the time to comment.
I'm with you on a Costco! ❤
Boiler Up! I'm looking around the Johnson City area, but inventory on the lakes is very low... patiently waiting.
Boiler Up!! That made me smile. Shad went to IU. Lol
@@LivinginJohnsonCityTennessee Purdue Alum here, but Chad seems like a nice guy for a Hoosier : )
I'm originally from S. FL but moved from Central FL to North TX where I've lived for 2 years. I plan to retire in 3 years and my husband and I are considering NE TN. I've watched all of your videos and appreciate the information that you two share. As far as shopping goes, are there plenty of secondhand stores in the Tri-Cities area? I prefer to shop at thrift, consignment and antique stores, and estate sales, garage sales, etc.
Great video. Thanks for all the information. Question: what would you say is the biggest difference between NE Tennessee and East Tennessee?
Less population, more conservative, more mountainous terrain.
@@LivinginJohnsonCityTennessee Thank you!
Also, more laid back, slower paced….very patriotic!
@@cassieruecroft That all sounds good to me. Thank you!
Great video -- love you two Shad and Stephanie! Very candid and endearing hosts. I am retiring in 9 months. I am 95% sure I will be moving to East Tennessee. I am a vegetarian. Are there any Chipotle type fast-food places, or Southern Squeeze (like the one in Chattanooga) new restaurants in the area
We have a Chipotle in Johnson City. I think you will be pleasantly surprised with the variety of restaurants in the area. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Are there any parts of Tennessee that has the most Turkeys and coyotes? I hope to buy a place with around 25 acres that I can hunt mostly small game and Turkey.
I know a LOT of people have already moved to TN, is it worth my time to even think of settling there too?
How is the job market my son and his wife just moved there in the spring
What about tornadoes? Nobody on CZcams seems to want to mention the tornadoes.
We have over 80 videos. We talk about tornadoes on several videos. Check out, 5 Things you need to know. I discuss tornadoes on that video.
What about bringing personal firearms from TX into TN and are there any restrictions?
I would suggest looking online at tn.gov regarding handgun restrictions
@@LivinginJohnsonCityTennesseethanks
Bring watch you got. Open & concealed carry.
Lots of ticks, and lots of snakes. Rat snakes, timber rattlers, copperheads, you name it, east Tennesse has it.
What about hill billys? Lol, sorry had to
Dull, depressing with a little underlying meanness. On the other hand there is also bland suburbia which a lot of people like.
I don’t agree with this comment- how can you be depressed when the area is so beautiful? To quote my sister, “ It’s like living in a Thomas Kincaid postcard.” Transplants usually tell me they like the fact that people are so friendly here….never had anyone mention “meanness”
I could see people being mean to someone that has your attitude
Bland... yes! That's exactly the right description of suburbia, no matter where it is! Can't stand the suburbs!
