As a retired Air Force MSGT, I agree. However, I Am very proud of what the Air Force has done to help families experiencing issues within the family. More importantly, the help provided is confidential, and the active duty member can not be penalized.

Because they are training new recruits. If you actually watch the show then you would know this
Because training someone on the force is no joke. You need them to take this job serious. To serve and protect your citizens takes a lot. And you need to be sure they have what it takes. This is a job where a lot of cases are life or death.

he was off duty and got called in? yeah no, i’m under the weather that day and would be a liability more than an asset.
Thats not how these jobs work. When you get ordered to work, you have to show up, especially if they’re short staffed. One person can’t leave till another shows up to relieve them. sometimes my exes 24 hour shift would turn into two days in a half.

When being sworn in as an LEO you agree to be on call 24/7, even when you aren't scheduled that day.

In almost any other job this would apply to it. Police is the worst job you could say that to. In the military it’s obvious that you can’t be talking to family during combat. But as a cop you never know when a crook is looking at you waiting to pick up on vulnerable moments like that so they can target your loved ones for favors or out of hatred.
Here we can see him on his phone in two situations.
The first is during a briefing, where the plan is being laid out and he's not hearing.
What happens when he hears on the radio, "Section B is volatile and we're going to have to go with Plan C immediately" you think there's going to be enough time to spare for someone to explain to him what plan C is and where Section B is? No. Had he listened to the briefing he would know but because he's trying to talk to his mum he doesn't.
The next situation is when they're approaching a volatile crowd; one wrong move and it could start a riot.
So whilst his TO is holding back a crowd you expect him to be able to be on his phone, crying about his missed breakfast with his mum?
Grow tf, Policing isn't a job to joke around and find out about.
It's one of the jobs with the highest mortality rate in the world. One wrong move and you're dead.
So grow tf up if you can't understand why it's important for a cop to leave his personal life aside whilst he is working.

I dont think you've had a job before. almost every job you will have requires that you have your phone on silent and put away. Every single minimum wage job, most small buisnesses, hell even some office jobs. Those are just a few examples

No matter what kind of job you do, its always better to be able to leave your personal concerns at the door before you start work. Pick it back up when work is done. Personal distractions can sometimes cause you to lose focus, and may cause you your job.

"I know what it's like to have family drama, but you gotta keep it in check while you're at work." Then start hiring robots, because you won't get that out of any good human being. Humans experience emotions, and to tell someone to stop feeling and focus on the job is tell them to stop being human. If you want a worker who can do the job regardless of their emotional state because your job demands as much, you do not want human workers, you want robots.
This show lets me know that some cops became jerks after they got job.
the number of people willing to put their family and personal matters over their duty is worrying. duty 1st, anything else can come later. no matter the situation your duty should come first so you should do your job to the letter instead of doing your personal thing

It is ultimately, it’s breakfast whereas the situation on the street is messy, she’s doing her job as a field training officer and teaching him priority management, he gets paid to keep the peace and he is required to be on the job otherwise it hinders that mission of keeping the peace

He was on his phone at 2 vital moments. As an officer of the law you must walk into a situation fully aware of your surroundings and when getting briefed especially as this was a secret service briefing iirc there is no way you’re going to be on your phone, you will miss critical information. Ok now second scenario approaching a volatile crowd, how often do you see a cop on the phone during crowd control? Basically never, that’s because at any moment things can kick off and you need to be ready. Or what if someone disagrees with this crowd and resorts to violence? Police must be constantly scanning their surroundings to detect and hopefully prevent crime, you can’t do that while on the phone.
