Hey, Addie! Excellent choice! One of the best franchises ever!
    - 1:24 - "Is that Doc Ock?" You are the first reactor I have seen recognize Alfred Molina as Sapito! This was his first film. That's awesome!!!!
    - 9:44 - That IS Gimli!!! John Rhys Davies plays Sallah in this and 'The Last Crusade'. One of the best character actors from Britain. He has been acting since the mid-1960s (he's 78 now). His big break was in a BBC series called 'I, Claudius' in 1976 that got him noticed in America thanks to PBS and Masterpiece Theater, then came the mini-series of 'Shogun' based on James Clavell's monster best-selling novel. In that, he played Vasco Rodriguez working along with Richard Chamberlain, the King of the TV Miniseries back then, and legendary Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune (The Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, Rashomon, and The Hidden Fortress, which inspired Star Wars - Episode IV). "Shogun' was such a hit that basically stopped everything over the course of a week back in 1980 (everyone was watching it during prime time), and Rhys Davies had a big juicy role that is lovable. Both series are still available and are amazing!
    - 11:28 - Improvised moment. There was supposed to be a huge fight between Indy and the Saracen Sword guy. It was even storyboarded so everyone knew the set-ups and such. However, Ford was really sick due to local food, as was a lot of the crew. He suggested just shooting the guy to Spielberg. Spielberg said yes. A moment that is both iconic and comedic gold!
    - 15:27 - Oh, Addie...Where's the fun in that? 🤣🤣🤣"Let's not and say we did!"
    - 16:40 - No. Not all. But there are bugs (HUGE ONES!), rats, and other grossness in the other movies. Spielberg does like being a little sadistic when it comes to stuff like this. "Let's make the audience squirm!!! He-he-he!" 🤣🤣🤣
    - 19:26 - Uhhhhh...snakes are over...but...well, you'll see!
    - 27:42 - Yep! The real horror show. This gave me nightmares for days because I was 9 years old when this came out.
    - 28:54 - Well...it's a government storage facility. Who knows what all could be in there. However...as a teaser...'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull'. No spoilers...
Looking forward to the next reactions!!!

Something I've never seen or heard mentioned by anyone watching this movie for the first time, or on repeat viewings for that matter: Indy offers Marion $5,000 (USD, presumably) total for the headpiece. That much money in 1936 with inflation since would have the buying power of around $100,000 now (plus or minus a few thousand), so that's a LOT of money Indy is pretty casually offering up.

The crew actually had tons of fun playing with the snakes as they were non poisonous. But when the King Cobra was brought in everything changed, treating that cobra with the utmost respect and caution. If you look closely, you can see a glass wall in between Ford and the Cobra just in case it felt threatened and decided to do something about it.

Interestingly, the snakes didn’t bother me in the slightest. I had an uncle with a reptile room in his house with all sorts of snakes and lizards. He’d milk the poisonous ones for the venom. I would like to point out, to me that was one of the big flaws in Doom. Indy had no fear of snakes in that one. Raiders is my all time favorite movie, but Temple Of Doom was a big disappointment and totally rediculous for many reasons I won't give away just yet. I hated it as much as I loved Raiders. Actually prefered Crystal Skull over that one. However, loved Last Crusade that brought back the feel of Raiders. It should have been the second, instead of Temple Of Gloom.

Indy has quite an interesting backstory. The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles showcases his earlier adventures and the people he met. It includes going on safari with Teddy Roosevelt, a friendship with Ernest Hemingway, and riding with Pancho Villa. There is quite a bit that Indy has lived through, including World War One. Also the girl with the writing on her eyelids was an unscripted thing aimed at Harrison Ford.

Beyond cool you had this on Harrison's 80th birthday Ads (I'm glad you were able to get thru the snake pit scene - there were literally hundreds of them for the shoot; the cobra moment where Indy is face-to-face with it was partitioned by a pane of plexiglass to secure his safety and you can see its reflection when the lighting strikes). The greatest action film of all time IMO that cemented Ford's movie stardom forever. Spielberg & Lucas made a fine DynamicDuo in getting their valentine to '30s & '40s serial shorts from their youths (back in the day moviehouses would show serialized cliffhangers before the feature film - about a 15 min. short where audiences would then be forced to come back the next week to see how the hero got out of a serious scrape with death defying stunts). Fun fact the Nazi soldier Indy tussles with in the truck actually doubled for Ford when Jones goes under it! Personal note: I saw this when I was 12 when it was first released and when my family went to see it apparently my sister & I were cutting up so our mom brought us into the lobby to scold us and warned we'd be in trouble when we got home. The film was so entertaining she completely forgot about it and we never got punished - so Indiana Jones saved my skin! :D LOL - I know you'll enjoy the others too (and INDY 5 will be out next summer!)

Time doesn't always kill a good stunt. Steven Spielberg added an old stunt to this movie that still impresses. When Indy lowers himself from the front of the truck, then slowly lets himself slide under it, it's Spielberg's homage to stuntman Yakima Canutt, who was the first to perform the stunt in the 1937 film Riders of the Dawn. Although he most famously used it in John Wayne's breakout 1939 movie, Stagecoach (it was a western, and Yakima slid under 6 horses and a stagecoach).

Two movie directors were wondering what kind of movie to do next. Spielberg wanted to "do James Bond," while Lucas brought up the cliffhanger movies of the 1930's and 1940's. With their second choice leading man cast, they set off to conquer the box office. Harrison Ford got an "academic upgrade" to "Dr. Henry Jones, Jr." and another iconic movie character. We got a rip roaring movie with enough action for THREE such movies. Alfred Molina's major movie debut got him covered in spiders. Actor Vic Tablian became a poison dart pincushion and a Nazi monkey handler. Two-fisted Marion Ravenwood matched the moxie of Indiana Jones, drinking louts under the table. 16:18 In the theatrical version, you can see the glass separating Harrison Ford from the Cobra. I've read that they ran out of snakes in the area for this scene and had to use Legless Lizards as well. Do you want to play a 1992 LucasArts game?: czcams.com/video/LZZXJ3zCRDQ/video.html 23:56 After all that, a mirror gets him! 24:33 Jehovah don't like the Hakenkreuz or Reichsadler. 26:55 Or being disturbed by unworthy/impious people.

Most of the snakes were rubber props. There were a few (non-venomous) real snakes thrown in to make it look like they were all moving. The cobra was real. If you know when to look, you can see a brief reflection in the pane of glass that was positioned between Indy and the cobra.
The call letters on the seaplane at the beginning were OB-3PO, and among the hieroglyphs on the tomb walls were images of R2-D2 and C-3PO.
