The Weeknd describes Kiss Land as his very own horror movie. probably why so much of the production on the album sounds so unsettling and almost uncomfortable, especially the screams in Kiss Land. it’s also the only album that Abel said he’d ever consider making a ‘sequel’ to.
That makes a lot of sense. I don’t think I could handle a sequel 😂

I love the Japanese-styled elements he threw into this album throughout the songs. It's really genius and helps set the ambience for a great work of music. There are a lot of things that I enjoy in Kiss Land, specifically the way certain songs fade together. If you listen to tracks 3 to 5 without interruption, you almost forget where one track ends and the next one begins. It creates this very realistic atmosphere and the songs just blend together so perfectly. Personally, Tears in the Rain is my fav because it acts like a great closure to this album.
That dark choir on professional with the beat gives me mega chills.

im suprised for the fact that you liked kissland, most people ( me too ) didn’t liked kissland in the beginning but when you listen more and more you like it more and its now my second fav album

So excited to see you do the other albums. I know a lot of fans don’t like star boy but I look at it as him trying something a bit different to his early stuff, it’s still got some great tracks on it if you go into it not expecting him to recreate trilogy. But do stick with him, because My dear Melancholy is a great little EP and After Hours is mind blowing and has lots of references to his early work.

Notice how on the title track Kissland he says "this ain't nothing to relate to", he is saying he knows his music isn't anything for people to relate to.

Hey okay so love the reaction thank you for that. Just wanna drop by and say that although I realllllly want you to keep going in order and do BBTM next I feel that After Hours should be next. It’s the most recent (3 months ago) and I think you’ll actually die with the production and lyrical content. It’s a concept album and completely cinematic. In fact the album concept was entirely inspired by films directed by Martin scorcese and the likes. And even though you’re slowly integrating yourself in our world, I can guarantee that After Hours will officially initiate you into XO. I’m stoked for that reaction whenever it comes and will totally share it in our XO subreddit.
Trilogy as a whole is a masterpiece but when it comes to studio albums I honestly struggle with determining whether kiss land or after hours is my number one.

for “belong to the world”, he uses a sample from “machine gun” by portishead and she’s also a big influence on the weeknd so if you haven’t heard her music before, you should maybe check her out
Portishead is a group and let's just say one of the members hates the weeknd because they said he plagiarized machine Guns instrumental for belong to the world

Also I wanted to mention, I know you will be reacting to odd look( the track on the deluxe of kiss land) as you said in the comments. When you do, instead of reacting to that track only react to the officially unreleased deluxe as well. A couple months ago, after about 7 years kissland and a bunch of songs from it became number one on iTunes and Apple Music out of nowhere and as a thank you to the fans, he released some unreleased scraped tracks on memento Mori that were supposed to be on kissland. Just search memento mori kissland unreleased and you shall find a playlist. I’m 100% sure all xo will be very happy :)

don’t look at trilogy as one project. remember it’s 3 separate projects.
I think Abel always intended for them to be linked though. I’m pretty sure they were all released within 1 year

Fun little anecdote: I was about to buy the Kiss Land “Oxcy” Keychain about a month or two on StockX, it was going for $35 but I was tight on cash so I decided to buy it when I get paid the next week. Between that day and my next payday Kiss Land skyrockets to number one on iTunes after Abel’s TikTok event. Then he rereleased Kiss Land merch and the price of the keychain went up to $140!

Kiss land is a place he makes out to be this place of ecstasy, love, beauty, money. In reality it’s a nightmare "land" of stress, greed, sadness, and jealousy.
The album is a tragic conceptual story (mixed in with the stress of his career and tour). Someone else commented the story.
