- Hello! In today’s episode of Hoya of the Week, I’d like to tell you the story behind two beautiful Hoyas - Hoya PRIKTAI and Hoya ELEPHANT. I think this definitely untangles them, and I hope moving forward it will be easier to distinguish them & hopefully it will be easier for you to find what you want. :)

Thank you for always sharing all the wonderful hoya info you find and most of all, thank you for all the laughs, you really are the best! ❤
Thank you for sharing what you found out about these two mystery hoyas . I really love a good story . Everyone has a different eye for beauty and I am sure there are many collectors who have these big girls
Hi, Miro, I grow both of these outside in central FL in the US. I have found them both to be different and rewarding to grow, as you describe. I almost lost both of them when I left them outside (along with most of my extensive collection…too large to bring inside) over our ‘winter’, which consisted of temperatures persistently in the 40s at night. I was able to root some cuttings and now they are back outside with lots of heat and humidity and are both growing like weeds in coco chips and #3 perlite. I would say that is the key, along with consistent watering and not letting them dry out. My leaves on ‘Elephant’ do not grow malformed, and when properly trellised, grow to massive size-I am thinking warmth/humidity is the largest contributor to this. I hope this helps 🙂
Do NOT give us a break! I look forward to hearing from you twice a week. I don't have Elephant or Priktai, but I do know who April is. The Beyonce of Hoyas made me laugh loud at the office.
Hahaha :D I wonder what April would think of that 😂
Or three times a week
Loved this video. I find it fascinating that there is so little info about the genealogies of these plants. Its like they are orphan seedlings and were adopted by a great family. Really interesting about the names too.
Can’t choose between the two so I will just put both on my wishlist….they are both beautiful!
CZcamsr rick and swifer went to Thailand this year and he was showing us the Hoya elephant at the nursery he was at, So beautiful!
Love the videos. Another hoya to add to my wish list! Keep them coming!
This is one of my most favorite of your videos Miro, it is a MASTERPIECE!! I think I have watched them all. Your confidence in your knowledge and style makes watching educational and a pleasure too! I don't have either of these hoyas yet. I now want them. I just transferred 9 hoyas from moss to coco peat and perlite, a first for me, I have watched you do it so many times. So I will monitor this situation for awhile before I go on the Priktai, elephant hunt. I had only been eying Elephant , not aware of Priktai. Clearly both are needed by me.❤️
Spot on!!! For the hoya species + author name, another one is vitellina blume, multiflora blume and so on 😆
I bought a cutting of hoya Priktai with one leaf in May, I already have a new shoot with two leaves🙌 thank you for the new video Miro😀
Thank you teaching me more about these 2 Hoyas. I am a new collector and have both but didn’t know the background. I actually took notes it was so helpful and interesting. Peace from New York ❤
While watching, I went on Etsy to check out Hoya Priktai and a seller is selling a Hoya Elephant Priktai for $175. Her Hoya looks only like the Priktai. All Hoya Elephant I've come across look like the one you displayed. Unless the seller's is a cross breed between the two its definitely a Priktai. I really see no similarity as far as the leaves go tho. Thanks for the education on the two. Facts are important. Dee, NY
You mentioned you have treated the primatial for mites. Can you tell me what exactly you treat it with. Thank you!
Hey Miro, thank you for this Video. I have both and love them lots. And now even more with all the great info you shared with us. Thank again and I always look forward to your video 😊
Haven’t finished yet, but soooooo excited to learn more about these too! I’ve wondered about it and am ready to learn 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Ok Elephant is now on the list though a quick google tells me she is going to be a little hard to find for me....thats probably a good thing numbers wise😂 and perhaps also due to ease of care or not it seems.
Love the story about names ❤
Is there any website where I can see the "official" cultivars, the registered ones? It would be great a video about botanical nomenclature, what are the accession numbers and what is their origin ...🙃
I like Vermont Hoyas information
Eekkk i just got the 🐘 super excited it was slightly rooted now has gave me 2 growths and 2 leaves also
Ma-Now is lime in Thai word.
Prik-tai is pepper in Thai word, named to Ice's daughter (if I weren't wrong).
Thank you, Pattamate
@@BasiePlants The Elephant could be the same as AH 027.
@@pattamatew. @pattamatew. I haven't reached out to Natta yet to check on that & how they got it. To me it seems visually that it could be the same. But I believe it is possible there were multiple seedlings too that look similar.
Oh my, now I think the plant I bought as Priktai is an Elephant. Of course I also had to get an Elephant later, since I didn't know I already had one.
And I do have the 'Russian'😅 Priktai, which sure looks like your Priktai. And my Priktai 'white' -well I only bought that because I wanted the non-Russian variety. 😂
I'm ok with 2 of each, for now. My first Elephant (fka Priktai) is getting nice splash so maybe it needs a new name? 😂.
I better save up in case a Silver Elephant ever shows up.😮
Don't let your plants drink coffee!
So it' not just me that struggles with both of these. Mine are still one leaf rooted cuttings for the most part. Priktai aborted a few leaves and then grew a warped, tiny one. Elephant finally shot out a vine, but no new leaves yet.
Oh, sorry to hear you are also on the Elephant & Priktai struggle bus. We will need a support group because of these two.
I can’t remember how you treat your Hoya for flatmites. I can’t rid mine of them. I have tried everything including sulfur and they continue to attack the new growth. Ready to try beneficials but have to get all sulfur off first. What do you do?
Sulfur should work. You may need repeat applications however, have you tried that?
@@karinkuhlemann5359 yes. I have done weekly sprays for 2 months and the buggers show up on the new growth. I have to say it did really help the Hoya that hadn’t been growing to start
Miro😍... When are you visiting Zagreb?
I only have 5 Hoya's... Just starting this Obsession and I love them. Wayetii is my favorite as for now...
Enjoyed you comparing and pointing out the differences between these two hoyas. Maybe something to think about for future videos? Anyway, I have no experience with either of these hoyas. My biggest leaf hoya is a Rigida.
If it makes sense to compare some other ones in the future episode, sure :)
Может быть сравнить Клеменсиорумы? Очень популярны сейчас,@@BasiePlants
The Hoya Elephant is one that I have on my wishlist!!!! I’ve seen several listed as being the same, but now thanks to you I know there’s a difference!!! 😎😎😎😎🪴🪴🪴🪴
