- Radiohead, at Glastonbury Festival in 2003, playing "The National Anthem".
By 2003 most people had accepted the idea that it was no longer possible to crash the festival and hence it is recognised as one of the most successful years to date. The number of tickets available to the public was increased slightly over 2002, partially in response to criticism that the 2002 festival was underpopulated and lacked atmosphere. The tickets sold out within one day of going on sale, in marked contrast to the two months it took to sell a similar number in 2002. It was also the first year that tickets sold out before the full lineup was announced.
This was also the year Radiohead returned to headline the Pyramid Stage.
Revenue raised for good causes from ticket and commercial licence sales topped £1 million, half of which went to Oxfam, Greenpeace and Water Aid. - Hudba
A 4 minute song with the bassline being the most prominent feature, and not ONE shot of the man actually playing the bass. Horrible.
I know it’s been 11 years but this entire concert seems to lack any Colin cam. Criminal.
The live stage is where the National anthem belongs. A song that closes in at an alarming rate of knots and grabs the audience. I prefer the live version. When Radiohead get going there is no band that can get anywhere near them. Brilliant!
I love it when Thom starts playing the Rickenbacker

the fact that jonny searches a frequency to connect the radio to whatever’s on the air at the moment it’s so fucking cool.
Jonny's radio drives me nuts, what a unique and creative way to music!
I've always wondered...when this song is played live you always hear a radio excerpt over the PA. Is that Johnny using his radio to tune into what's on air right as they're playing the song? If so, that's pretty cool.
yes! He just tune it to a random local station. In fact, there was one time when they couldnt perform the song because johnny couldnt find any frequency
i really love how jonny is running around the stage doing random stuff with the theremin
It's not a theremin.
Its an ondes martenot
Radiohead is one of the most bizarre bands to ever exist that’s why they are a rock n roll hall of fame and one of the greatest musical acts of all time
Who knew Britain had such a great National Anthem. A masterpiece tune.
This has to be one of the coolest performances of one of the best songs performed by one of the best bands of all time
Everyone
Everyone around here
Everyone is so near
Its holdin on

One of the best versions and the Light Show is amazing, the amount of talent is over-whelming. It's the sound like a hearty and savoury soup with the Light aroma- DIG IN!
how is the camera never focused on colin in the whole video? he’s literally playing the main riff
this is my favorite version, the radio goes along so well
"it's great" says my sister :P
she does it all the time like "pah pah pah pah":D
if you like the radio thing.. they do it in climbing up the walls off ok compluter.. its pretty kick ass in that song too,
AWESOME.......... RADIOHEAD FOR LIFE
Jonny Greenwood is a beast.
The crowd is so boring... there should be a riot, people literally throwing themselves around, ripping their clothes off, I don't know, something to equal the immense power created by this fucking amazing bass line
The voice is Robert Robinson, old school BBC chap.
That Rhythmic breathing at the start is wiiikid!
this is the funniest song in the world to cover.. this is so much fucking room to play with it.. it is the perfect jam song.. and all you guitar players.. buy an ebow.. you can reproduce johnny's odnes sound almost perfectly!
Thom is the fuckin man!
Brilliant. And good to hear without the horn section.
my computer froze because i clicked the like button so much
He's probably in drop-D. Sounds like he's just hitting

Hey I know it’s been 15 years but I just want to say that…..that’s not what he’s doing
bloody awsome!!
AWESOME, they're so AWESOME!!!!!
かっこいい!
NADA MEJOR QUE ESTO!
@lafla2 also i think that's what make their live performances that much better, the inclusion of these
small bits. True, great song both ways though
aweseome
yeah, proving yer years of maturity there, he what the guy said is true, you can re-create the sound, he is not saying that johnny is playing that. its like how he uses a digitech whammy in paranoid android, great well if you play that part on the thrid, second and first fret of your G and B strings you can get the same sound, leave the guy alone
@sergioh91 THIS is literally the best youtube comment I've read ever. and this applies to so much. thank you
'Its da BBC...'
everyone
justin bieber=singer

@@Rodolka comments of people 9 and more years ago are hilarious
@@Luger-bt2rq I just realised that 😆
I was so disappointed when I found out the Stuido version didn't have the TV/Radio bits in the beginning :( Same with the gasp-scatting Thom does.
It is still such and amazing song though!
Actually it have

1:11 - the only time Thom Yorke has fucked up in his life.
I think the lines quoted at the start are from "Brain of Britain". Could be wrong though.
In a post-GFC context where Thom Yorke's rather Orwellian views on post-structuralist societies that have fallen to the whims of over en-liberalisation, this song carries even more pertinence!! If the meaning were to be transposed today, would the song differ I wonder?
Like the brass breakout better, but this still rocks.
its so weird but so awesome
I like this more than the studio version.
studio version is just hella bored compared to this live
no horn section though
@Zedetnik Well yeah they said the radio parts they use are just local radio stations they pick up at the concert, so when they play in places like spain they have spanish radio on it.
noooo maaaaaa mssssssss
this song is scary lol works great on kid a though llol
@XsoysuicidaX definitely is Thom
I wish someone would run over and hand me a Rickenbacker when I was on stage. Thom is a lucky guy.
@ryo21st
Thom Yorke = singer
Justin Bieber = just a pretty voice
You might be right
i would be DANCINGG!!!!!
yes, ours :)
haha. totally get that.
lol. yeah my bad.. hes playing an odes and a radio lol.. in the live at feast im pretty sure he is playing the ebow (or fucking with feedback).. but yeah.. that was kinda dumb of me
1:11 2:20 yes plz? 😻🦊
So prefer York's vocalizations to the Mingus- aping horn stuff on the studio version...
Not decrying the effort (love Mingus), just the effect...
dude!!!!!!please!jonny is not playing the ebow in this song man!he actually never plays the ebow!thats ed.....you never have seen them live have you?do you know what the name of the instrument that jonny is playing in this song?i do but i must ask you....do you know?
This is the most "radiohead fan" comment I've ever seen in my life
Rashtragaan
THIS crowd+those days...+that concert+radiohead=boring cementery, why? dunno -___-
nods;)
i may have been a bit harsh on the guy but he knew what i was saying.i assume he is a bit of a music snob just as i and we were able 2 see eye 2 eye on it...but others feel they need 2 jump in.its ok...and i dont disagree with you.
i think hes just put his guitar in drop D and mutes out the notes every now and again

Its the bbc......
