      i cant believe he was able to win that truck race years ago. Listening to him in victory lane, he still sounded like he had some cognitive issues. And that was years after his bad wrecks. He was probably a hof talent. Shame he got hurt. Very smart guy though. Glad he seems to be at least 90% now mentally.

      Rookie of the year AND the championship. I remember watching one of those Richmond races on a Friday night when Jr said afterwards that they had hit on something with their shorttrack program and he didn’t know if NASCAR was gonna let them keep running it like that. Now I know exactly what he was talking about. Also saw Steve’s crash when the wheel came off. Bad things happen to good ppl all the time. Tragic

    Steve Park was one of my favorite drivers as a little kid. His 2001 accident made me so sad because he was in the beginning stages of the prime of his career and was 10th in points at the time, and this essentially ended all that. At the end of 2003, he was out of the cup series, and a few years later was out of Nascar altogether. One of the biggest what ifs in Nascar history. Glad to see he's talking better and doing well.

    2001 imo is when NASCAR died, but, 3 moments that I always will emember was Harvick's win, Park winning at Rock and you Dale Jr, coming from 6th to 1st with 7 laps to go at the Pepsi 400. Man!! NASCAR is not the same afterwards. Thank you Dale, Dale Jr, Harvick and Park.

    • @swirvinirvan3789
      @swirvinirvan3789 Před 4 lety

      NASCAR continued growth after 2001 but I think with Dale's death(2001), Winston getting pushed out(2004) and the changes to the points the same year is all three what lead to NASCAR starting in it's decline to what it is today. Let's not forget those horrendous looking COTs. I still cringe. Also, they left North Wilkesboro, Rockingham and took a date from Darlington to go to these cookie cutter tracks and pretty much "gave the bird" to the original fans and the roots of the sport to chase the big money. They got the big money but now they are paying for it with empty stands. You know it's bad when tracks remove grandstands and start painting seats to "look full" on raceday.

    As a northeastern racing fan, Steve Park was one of my heroes. Came from running Mods to racing and WINNING for Dale Sr. another hero of mine in racing. The story about "Redheaded Step-Child" brought back some good memories of watching Steve kick the absolute shit out of everyone in the Busch Series and sitting on the couch with my dad (Who helped Richie Evans build his first race car) telling him "See, we still have some damn good talent in this area." 20 years later Stewart Friesen and Ryan Preece are representing that Northeast modified fan base. Steve Park was a BIG DEAL for all of us.

      I probably sat down even next to you having some brews and telling stories because I used to run a late model at Thompson and I also helped a tour modified team as well and we parked right next to Steve Parks’ trailer many times and then after racing had a couple libations. Steve was like just one of the guys, a real cool dude not full of himself with a big head and ego so I did enjoy speaking with him! Just like Steve I wound up with a Trumatic brain injury that has screwed me up for unfortunately the rest of my life because it’s been pretty much two decades with my head in a fog and ringing in both of my ears on a constant basis from an off the track automobile accident, the girl hit me from behind doing almost 60 while I was at a standstill. So I know what he’s going through, Junior as well.

      I saw Dale in '98 at South Boston. I recall he got sent to the rear twice for rough driving. Can't remember his finish.

    Love the Diecast cars on the table. I'm hunting that Wrangler blue yellow car, is the only one I'm missing in my collection. My 1st was the Black Goodwrench #3 with the Plus word on the front hood Dale Earnhardt Diecast which is the one he used to win his only Daytona 500 in 98.

    It's so good to see Steve doing well. He may have went on to be one of the greats if not for the accidents. The wrecks at Atlanta and Darlington were awful.

    Was a big Steve Park fan. He never was the same after the steering wheel came off in 2001. I wonder how good he could of been.
