I can't believe how badly this company treated its community. Never going for Boltrend again. This game could have easily been sustainable with little employment required, but because Boltrend constantly purchased different IPs that would obviously fail, Disgaea RPG has been impacted. :C
Yeah I agree with that sentiment. Honestly compared to other Gacha games that are out rn Disgaea was relatively l0w maintenance, BT really just dropped the ball for little to no reason...
yeah, their job was just to localize and run servers, I'd think. just a bit of a cash printing machine if maintained, maybe not crazy cash but some. And having the game existing would likely improve awareness of released for like Disgaea 7
They were too greedy and the banner rates were horrible.
Honestly they need to give us at least the option to play offline even if it's just with what you got in the account until the closure. Last month The Alchemist Code also closed in global server and it's so frustating knowing that you won't be able to access the content you spend years gathering...
I agree. At least they are still giving us some time to play before they officially shut down, but it would be great if you could set up a personal server or something to keep playing afterwards.
Boltrend is an actual npc company that will be bankrupt soon, putting all their eggs in one basket for "project winter" Absolutely well deserved when it happens to them.
Yeah it's a ludicrously stupid decision. Given this plus their track record, I doubt Boltrend will receive much community support when/if they release more games.

I am a huge fan of the Disgaea franchise. Have been since I played Disgaea Infinite on my old PSP. Hearing this kind of news is not just disappointing, but heartbreaking. I have been playing Disgaea RPG since it came out, and it is sad that this game is basically going to be left to die a slow death. If this is how Boltrend is treating their games, I am not going to play any more of their games. This was the first one, and it will be the last one.
Although I never even knew about Disgaea before DRPG, I also feel in love with the series. And It seems Boltrend has a pretty terrible track record from other games as well, so I agree I probably wont be supporting any of their further projects after this.
Man thats just heartbreaking. I started playing disgaea pretty late with disgaea 5, but i absolutely loved it. after that one i played all the other disgaeas (except 3) and at one point i found out there is disgaea also a disgaea RPG i was pretty excited about this and tried it out instantly, it took some getting used to at first, but i really started to love the game, i always checked what characters are new and carefully picked the characters i liked or that are absolute must pulls. I played the game now for well over a year, which is longer then any other mobile game i've ever played.. like by far.. it really got me engaged for a longer period of time and i liked it very much over the last year.
It's a little bit funny to me.. all the time i kept most of my resources to upgrade characters to their fullest, because at some point i've heared that there will be a new version of my favorite disgaea character killia, and like a month later in JP primeval overlord killia got released.. i was so hyped.. because when i started tyrant overlord killidia wasn't really a top tier unit anymore, he already started to fall off.. so i was really excited for the new killidia .. but it seems like i've helt back my ressources for no reason.. i could've used my gems on other units, i could've upgraded them to their fullest and could've had more fun in pvp..
but sadly it's all over now.. i mean i could always start a new journey on JP, but losing as full year of content .. i guess this is really goodbye then.. i mean .. every game or mobile game will close eventually.. but disgaea JP did so well and i always heared that disgaea global was an ever better cashcow.. but looks like boltrend completly fucked it up.. i would like to have the tiniest shimmer of hope that they just give the disgaea rpg IP to another studio and get it back up again.. but that's super unlikely.. well it was nice while it lasted. It was nice getting to know so many nice members of the community. y'all are awesome.

Ironic that very recently before this came to light some of the more prominent discord members were discussing about what everyone will do once the game shuts down.Whether by pure chance or some lucky foresight it prepared me for this.Oh well its been a fun ride
It was such an outlandish idea considering how well we all thought the game was doing at the time 😭 BT said "bet"
I'm sad, I love disgaea and just started playing in September. I was loving it, but I guess this is just the way it goes sometimes. I feel like if a game doesn't explode like genshin, arknights, epic seven, or something like that, then it's guaranteed to shut down in 1 or 2 years. The whole repeat experience has discouraged me from spending anything on any mobile games in general.
Yeah unfortunately I understand that sentiment. However I do think Disgaea would've lasted a much longer time if a different company picked it up for global. The JP side is still going strong
I get what you mean, but in this case I feel it is heavily Boltrend's fault here. DRPG and Disgaea in general has a pretty good flow and the latter has a good history, but Boltrend apparently just absolutely sucks even prior to DRPG.

And I just got this game a couple of days ago. 😩 reminds me of when I finally bought Final Fantasy XI Online for X-box 360 only for the server to be shut down a couple of months after I got the game.

So that’s why the app would keep failing. I thought it was an update that’d just take a whole day or 2 before I got sucked into other games. I completely missed the end of service message.

I am glad that I never spent money on this game! If I did I would be so heartbroken. Unlike clash that hate to say too but I sent like $60 on those $5 per month rewards.

No really, be.. We only have one life, guys. I’m a big Disgaea fan, and I never knew of Disgaea RPG. Only until recently, but it’s too late for me.
It’s over. I could have tried it, made amazing memories, friends, etc. It would had ended, but I could have tried it. But I didn’t get the chance to.

There is always the JP version of the game! And they are still making the mainline series of Disgaea games! You'll have plenty of chances to make friends and join the community
Boltrend was in charge of Fantasy Life Online Global and the game shut down February this year.
I really wish this game was alive. I'm disappointed how boltrend got the rights in managing the global version. This game got potential... then its wasted by Boltrend's management
I couldn't agree more. I've played a lot of Gacha games and DRPG had some amazing content and support... at first. Thankfully the JP version is still going strong!
I played Disgaea RPG for a bit when it came out. Saved like 50k gems or something and spent it all on Awakened Rozalin expecting to max her out. Only got like 3 copies so I quit afterwards. Good riddance I say. They should focus less on gacha and put all those creative skins into an actual sequel.

I know it's mentioned briefly in the video itself but I guess there should be more clarification that this is for the Global version. The JP side seems to still be ongoing, for whatever that's worth.
But still, sucks either way. I remember there was a lot of skepticism when people found out Boltrend was going to be handling the Global release and, well, turns out that was all warranted. It's all just a shame.
Honestly, despite what I said above, I do have to admit I'm worried this will have some negative consequences on the JP side. While I don't play the game myself since I don't like mobile gacha games, I have been appreciating just looking up a lot of the units and collabs. I swear, if nothing else, "Disgaea RPG" has done an amazing job in that regard. Between the alts and getting characters cosplaying as each other, even through the collabs, it's just fun. I occasionally look up the JP twitter account for skill animations and even concept art.
Yes I probably should have put more emphasis on that! I never knew of Boltrend's reputation until recently but even so I thought they were handling the game surprisingly well (From my experience with other Gacha games).
I know most of it is as simple as releasing quality of life changes that the JP side implemented, but for things like the Chinese version adding pity, the Global version implemented pity as a response to the community.
Really unfortunate they fell back into (seemingly) the same practices, at least they opened me up to the Disgaea franchise.

Touhou LW is alright but it is kinda rough for F2P crowd but they had some generous outliers here and there. There's a pity system and that, but as a F2P player, you best save up those Coins / Seal Crystals / God Crystals as much as possible in the early player levels because those Relic / Epic / UFES Prayers will slam you hard the most. Trust me.
Suggested starting player character: go for Youmu. She will be your best bet for a smooth progression in the story mode. I chose her and did not regret it.

It's my fault probably. I was playing Disgaea RPG without buying premium currency. The game is just too fair for F2P players.

Wow I had no idea Boltrend was doing any of that, or about the class action against them! I'd love to make a follow-up video if I find out any more information!

I had a good run with the game but oh well. The dogshit translation that was done by a machine, the random server outages and boltrend being itself aside I did have fun, so I'm sad to see it go. RIP to my man Hayzink, he really did put a lot of work into trying to help build a community

ops, i guess just enjoy the game while you’re at it. Try playing the original Disgaea series if you can get them on Mobile/PC/Switch

As far as I know, no. But the JP version is still around and there are a few good videos about how to play that!

There were slight problems here and there but for the most part it seemed that the game was going well prior to all of this. I believe they started pulling employees from Disgaea RPG to instead work on Project Winter (or maybe it really was all just because of money 🤷♂). and NIS wont/cant do anything because they outsourced the game to Boltrend for the Global version, most of the decisions Global makes is Boltrends (I believe)... Really unfortunate.

How long was it up?
A little longer than 2 years. Not a bad run for a niche mobile game but definitely WAYYYY shorter than it should have been. DRPG Global could have easily lasted 4-5 years at minimum.
Luckily i never tried this game , i never liked Online only games.
Its only really "online only" in the sense that you do need wifi to play it. For the most part the activities were PvE.
so we lose out on an otherwise AMAZING mobile game? A game worth actually putting money into is going away because BT are such trash?! FFS!
