  • Johnny Ramone interviewed by Edgard Piccoli for MTV Brazil, backstage at the Olympia, São Paulo, Brazil march 1996. Taken from Fuji Super HG T120 NTSC videotape, that I got as part of a tape trade from a friend in Brazil in 1996.

    "...opening for Toto was weird." Another sentence I never expected to hear, although he's not wrong about that. Somewhere there is a poor fellow telling people, "No, I was there, I swear it's real!" 😀
    Another quality presentation. Thank you for posting this! 👏👏🙂

    Great interview thanks for posting. No band will ever be like the Ramones. Like the Beatles - everything else just came afterwards…

    the interviewer was very good... he had a good knowledge of the band, and asked interesting questions and then let Johnny answer them without interrupting

    Great band...punk,surf,rock and rock n roll at the same time...it's unbelievable that they never became chart toppers and main stream...probably they hit UK way too late

      @joykiller Was in a sense...they encouraged Sex Pistols and the whole UK thing but I was talking of chart topping UK singles and LPs market...Australian band from Brisbane has done better in 1976)77. period at home and NZ and UK...The Saints were more popular than Ramones in UK back in 1976/77. Ramones have risen to some success and prominence in UK and Europe in the postpunk period...Brits are cherishing punk as their own true home brand and not something that has been imported from US like early rock n roll (even than UK youth came up with Teddy Boys,mods, mids,Mersey beaters and later on from urbanised suburban working class mods came skinheads etc.)...In Australia at the same time garage boys and sharpies,mods,rockers etc.

    • @radomirratkovic9014
      @radomirratkovic9014 Před 2 lety +1

      @joykiller Probably better than UK but Australia does it THE BEST...Missing Links,Masters Apprentices,Machine Gun Kelly's Rejects, Purple Hearts,The Loved Ones to name just a few protopunks and garage Groovers from 1960s to The Saints and Radio Birdman and few more in 1970s and if we are to add Kiwis like Ray Columbus type and band were my late and very missed friend used to be a drummer..(.They played "Social Product" on "Ugly Things" compilation ) than when it comes to the question of protopunks,punk and garage Oz is a place to be...Erwin Rommel was not the first or the last one to admit that Aussies kick ass...If you were to ask Johnny yourself he would tell how frustrating it is to play,play and play and record and have in all career just one tune in top 40

      @joykiller mine demos charted and one went number one on the Internet Radio station in Europe..still getting cash for it..we were influenced by Ramones and Saints and so much more...it's sometimes a pure luck...There is a lot of politics everywhere and you gonna trick them you are Hazar by bloodline which I just could not do cos the very mob finished my mum's German family...so yep they are all in touch,they stop you,they monitor,trying to shape you into anything Politically correct..and yes no EP ever charted even with so many strong songs ,only some later demos have been send by someone who understood the game..Good piece went to Germany and now it's all history..Criminal mob controls this world

      @joykiller Most of this bands never charted... those bands are few demo tapes strong,sometimes up to four obscure single records...

    I always found it strange that they quit in 1996 when they were at their highest in their careers and sold records and venues out where ever they went. But i guess it was because of that damn cancer.
    For Queen as well. Their last tour was in 1986. But they still produced albums in years after but never toured again. Also as Scott Gorham said to Phil Lynott when Phil wanted to get Thin Lizzy back together,, You have to be healthy to do this... Anyway, its how it goes.

      1991-1996 was their most commercial period, but they earned money since the 70s, because Johnny kept the recording budget low, and made sure that the band spent, as little as possible on everything, so they were never poor but underrated.
