It was July 6th, 1986. The band was late..and it was a hot,hot night in NYC. Tempatures were rising emotionally and emotionally in the room. The band came in....I think everyone wondered if they would be worth the wait. I can tell you....it WAS WELL WORTH IT!!! I was there. We are lucky to have this footage. Noone would have believed the perfection of it ,otherwise. Great songs, played with passion and intensity. I cant thank the Ritz enough for taking the video and the others involved for keeping it all this time. btw: Jack Hues is far from done. Wang Chung and Jack Hues (solo) continues to put out worthwhile music..unafraid.Adventurous and beautiful. Check it out.
amazing story! i can only imagine summer in NYC back in 86. must've been a magical time. all the great artists were still alive. warhol died six months after this concert, basquiat a year after that, keith haring 2 years after that, mapplethorpe same time. wow. then hip hop took over and culture shifted. the 90s! then 9/11. but this show, mid 80s - one of those periods in time that can never be recreated.
I was born in '74. I really started loving music in late 80s/ early 90s. I really love this band. Only discovered them in 2010 through the movie To Live & Die in LA. They are just great musicians, there should be a true music revival with quality music.... i miss that. Love the way you wrote this down, wish i had been there.
Very cool. Yeah everyone is looking up Debra Dobkin the percussionist from Chicago. She's a very gifted painter and musician as well. Jack played guitar starting at 8 years old. Mikul Reid is still very involved in the music industry.
It's so great to have this excellent video of Wang Chung in their prime!! What a fantastic live band. Like, wow!! ' Jack Hues' voice is so strong and secure, wonderful. PS But I'm always wishing that they'd do Lullaby, a beautiful lost song, from the TL&DinLA soundtrack..
Just saw these guys at Lost 80's Live last week! They did an amazing job! If you get a chance to see them, do so. As a bonus, their original drummer showed up to perform Dance Hall Days with them.
Wow, such a great live band - the vocals (both Jack and the backing vocals) are so on point! I thought about them today on a whim and am just discovering there's a bunch of material I was unfamiliar with (Orchesography, Tazer Up, etc). Thanks so much for uploading. Am loving Wang Chung all over again...
I love this band! I just bought Points on the Curve on LP and the To Live and Die in L.A. soundtrack on CD. Great live performance here. Thanks, Martin!
One of the best groups and sorely underrated. Very talented musicians and songwriters - creative, well written songs. Thanks for posting this! I can’t wait to watch the whole thing I just started. I’ve never seen them live. I wonder what year this was.
Look at me now Wake up stop dreaming Let’s go To live and die in LA The flat horizon Don’t let go The world in which we live Everybody have fun tonight Dance hall days
Great show! Can't help myself comparing Jack Hues and Nick Feldman's look back 1986 and today. No offense, but I like their looks before. Although there are lot of changes, there is one thing that remains constant, that is, Nick Feldman's Steinberger headless bass guitar. He's still using it in most of the band's tours.
This live version of wake up stop dreaming is sooo good. Saw this on an mtv broadcast. And it was amazing. We taped it on vhs cassette. And watched it a lot.
I was there with my friends. I was a huge fan of the first two albums at the time. Great fun. Amazing time to be alive hey ! Many many great feelings from that summer.
😢 they did not achieve the success what they deserved!! This was a great show! It should have been officially released! And what about their tours in 1987? And I still can't understand why they did not tour after the great 1989 album.....
if anyone knows would love to know the band lineup here after Hues/Feldman . Probably not (?) Costins drumming since it's '86 but the rhythm section are amazing here plus the 2nd guitarist.
@@castercamber yeah...no worries...texting sux for communicating. But it WAS 1986. A long time ago...but the songs still kick some serious ass, Id say.
Some of us were there but were too poor to get premium cable to view our favs so in a way we are treated to the 'new of the old' and we couldn't be happier!
Wow awesome! I loved them growing up. Loved the movie to Live and Die in LA because of them
listening to that song now and i cant get enough of it
what a track!
I saw them open for the Cars at Pine Knob for their Heartbeat City tour in July of 84. The sheer energy of Wang Chung blew the Cars off the stage.

Saw this tour in Cleveland. They had the whole place rocking! Totally unexpected. Still one of the best concerts I've ever been to.

@@drinkingpoolwater Never thought about it that way.
Shite compared to their first album
They’re so underrated.
Amazing band
Wow, thank goodness this was captured with such a fantastic shoot. This band was formidable and undersung.
I went and auditioned for the touring guitar slot, prior to this tour. The spot went to Mikul Reed far mor deserving than I.

They were awesomely talented. So glad we have this video. I finally got to see Live and die in LA. Missed it cause dad died back then
thanks for the post--"points on the curve" was one of my favorite albums of my youth--peace

Bryan Hitt - drums
Debra Dobkin - percussion, backing vocals
Mikal Reid - guitar
For a few songs, Debra was essentially the lead singer😮
Que gran registro... Cómo lo disfruto.!!! 🤩🤩

They certainly liked bowie's fame riff , anyway superb live concert and what a soundmix

Thirty minutes in;
She is killing those harmonies.. nice.
Not just a bongo lady.
🎉just wow pure fabness XXX love you boyzz
Killer drum groove in Don't Let Go.
Brian Hitt, like a shuffle in 6/8 similar to TFF Everybody Wants To Rule The World, slightly faster
Wow, what a concert! Wish I could have been there. Points on a Curve and Live and Die and LA were full if incredible music.

Saw them live at 86 th street Expo One of the best live bands once you get past a few silly hits that dominated the airwaves in the 80 s

The nod to Bowie's "Fame" at the beginning is great
magical vibes here. mid 80s in manhattan. culture was never as great as right here. before hip hop took over.
Exactly…no class in music anymore
Amazing :D Thank you for uploading this.
I love wang chung, look at my second upload, earlier concert
@@martin_minimalwave I first got into them because of the movie 'To Live and Die in LA'. Their arrangements are amazing, everything sounds so studio
@@martin_minimalwave also, thanks- I'll check it out
@@davehastings True...the songs..the arrangements..its ALL pretty amazing music! Jack Hues is a REAL talent.

Can somebody tell me the line up of the band here? In particular the drummer and percussionist? Thanks.
That's Debra Dobkin on percussion/backing vocals, a formidable talent (as you see here) who has performed with _everybody_.
The British Hall and Oates
Wang Chung is more New Wave than Hall and Oates😁
coked-up werewolf
This is cool… but I did prefer when they were still HUang Chung. Less generic pop. 1st album was best IMHO.
This is an old video.
Sounds like...you are intending an insult. If youwere..I guess I'd reply with...it still sounds really good, whenever it was done.
@@georgebarry8640 : My apologies, no insult intended. Great song and video, from the early days.
