- In this video I talk about my first time at a LARP (Live Action Roleplay) game as a Uni student who went alone and had no idea what she was doing. I hope this video encourages others who have never tried Empire before to give it a go!

Wow! I can’t believe the amount of views and support I’ve had on this video! Thank you all so much for your positive comments! I’ve had such a warm welcome into the Larp community and I can’t thank you enough. I will be making a video on E2 of Empire soon, although I am currently editing two vlogs that I want to get done first. I’ve also had a crazy month so I haven’t had much time to focus on CZcams but I’m hoping things will calm down now that it’s the summer break! This video is just what I needed! Currently just finished my second year at uni, could not make it to E1 and can not make it to E2 but I promised myself this would be the year where I go to my first ever LARP; had the my basics of my character made in 2020 but now realising I can finally finalise him. :D
My character is also a Navarr so maybe he'll be seeing your character around at E3 :)
So many similarities between yours and my first experience! I also went alone to my first event (E3 2019) and it's mind blowing going solo, but people really are great, super welcoming. The Mhorish meal ticket was a lifesaver - knowing you have your 3 meals a day and an excuse to step away for a breather is an absolute lifesaver.

Good video! Definitely would encourage you to make more of these. There's some great Empire channels out there, but not enough of it in my opinion. As someone who lives overseas and can't attend, I really enjoy hearing people's descriptions of their experiences at the events. The Larp Noobs podcast and The Orcs Planet are two really good Empire content creators which are worth checking out if you're not already familiar with them (Larp Noobs hosts are also Navaar players). Anyway, great job!
Lovely video please do keep making them, empire is such a huge system and has a very deep lore that even people from the start of it don't know it all. and yes drink water, no more than that yes even more than that. also thermals are your friend, it is based in the uk after all.

Layers!!! Layers make soooo much difference not only for keeping you warm but also making your kit look more detailed. It was my first even as well, it was so awesome! Have fun at E2!!!

Ahh I love the Brass Coast! I hung out with a lot of them during E1, that's a tough choice, both are great nations to play as. I'm so glad this video is helpful!
as a broke student myself, cant wait to one day go myself.
I'm planning on going once I finish my armour and costume bags etc, I'm thinking of navarr or wintermarkas nations but also im a bit hesitant as well i have no friends interested in this as they are not nearly the massive nerd that I am apparantly. Great video BTW need more of this positivity and exposure.

For showers usually they're, if you walk out of god and continue up the road forwards with the IC camping area on your left, they're in Some dark green building with big plastic water tanks on top. good to get em early on a morning.
I was the groom for that Dawn wedding, entertaining to hear it back after the fact from an outsiders view, especially since the wife character died at e3 this was a nice reminder of earlier in the year
She died?? Oh no! 😭 It was a very memorable wedding for sure haha, how tragic! I don’t know how you managed to complete that test but bloody well done for passing!

in regards to ooc safety it completely beats IC stuff, drink water folks, if you personally care put your ooc water bottle in a plan sock or something.
E2 was my second event and I didn't even know about the meal tickets!!!

Well If you guy are looking for a cheaper alternative and Poland seams to be a valid destination for someone who already intends to visit an event abroad.
heck yeah another larper! :) if you're looking for more larp your uni might have a society that does it?... or not larp is surprisingly niche. I have not been to an empire event yet (but am thinking of going to one soon) but have been larping with my uni's bi-weekly system since the start of this school year and I joined the society's Changeling larp system a couple of months ago as well. the groups I go to are made up of some students but is also a lot of graduates and folks from outside the uni which is nice as quite a wide age range I feel balances out the group and also means that the refs have time to run the systems well (I would love to ref one day but I do not have the time while doing a degree lol).
Thank you for this info! My Uni unfortunately doesn't have any gaming societies, or many societies for that matter. I have met a lot of people at Empire who do smaller LARPs however, so I will proably ask them about it. :)
@@itsmikki69 nice. if you ever run into them on the field I think a few of the folks I know and people linked to my local larp community are in house sepulchre in Dawn. :)
You can swap to a new character straight away if you die and can find costume to hand.

Also a uni student here, hoping to do my first LARPing at E3 and I was wondering the sort of average ages of people there?
Honestly, there’s a huge variety of all ages at Empire and I wouldn’t say there’s a majority of one group. You’ll definitely find a lot of other students in their late teens and early twenties though!

It's amazing to see just how diverse the ages of the empire crowd are, theres everyone from solo teenagers coming for the first time to 40-50 year olds bringing their kids for their first larp. hell, I know theres always some seniors on the field at any given point too! Frankly wonderful to see larp made accessible for such a wide range of people
Considering that I've played DnD with you I am not surprised you veered into roleplaying as chaotic good the moment you started XD speaking of characters, is there a particular method of character creation, and how did you go about it?

Yeah I sort of did. I gave Brynn a goal and backstory and left the personality up to when I was actually in game. I wanted to play her more as meek and lawful but just ended up with flirty chaos. I wanted to get a feel for the game first.
Character creation is XP based. A starting character gets 8XP. Some skills can’t be bought without buying other skills. You also select a Nation and a Resource like a business or a military unit.

I did! @@itsmikki69 Unfortunately I already have plans during E3 :( but maybe I'll make it to E4 this year. Although, if I have a great time it's gonna really suck to have to wait 7 months for my second event, so maybe I should just wait for E1 next year 🤔
