Michaël Denard - French Star Dancer - Hommage

Michaël Denard passed away on February 17, 2023 (1944-2023). He was one of the most charismatic, sunny, sensitive, and strong star dancers of the Paris Opera. (He is filmed here in 1975)
He excelled in the traditional classical, romantic (Giselle, Swan Lake, La Sylphide) and neo-classical or contemporary repertoire (Balanchine, Roland Petit, Béjart, Jerome Robbins, Alvin Ailey, John Neumeier, Iouri Grigorovitch, Merce Cunningham, Carolyn Carlson, Lucinda Childs, Antony Tudor, Hans van Manen, Glen Tetley, etc).
He has danced on the most prestigious stages in the world - Kirov, Bolshoi, American Ballet Theatre, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Rome Opera, Brussels Monnaie Theater, Berlin Opera, etc., with partners such as Ghislaine Thesmar, (with whom he formed a prestigious couple programmed in most of the great classical ballets at the Paris Opera), Claire Motte, Noëlla Pontois, Dominique Khalfouni, Natalia Makarova, Cynthia Gregory, Natalia Bessmertnova, Élisabeth Platel, Françoise Legrée, Lynn Seymour , Sylvie Guillem, etc. He was also an actor, teacher, ballet master and company director (Berlin). His career spanned from 1966 to 2009, and he was still active in theater until 2019.

Et aujourd'hui quand on pose des questions aux danseurs ils t'embrouillent en te parlant de genré/non genré et du chorégraphe qui les fait sortir de leur zone de confort. Denard était une étoile. Avec une aura. Et sans discours inutile.
