But when I was starting out, at the top firms, women architects were generally given the managerial positions, not the design positions. Why was it that women kept getting slotted not to be a design partner but a manager?"

She won an anonymous contest and received backlash once they found out the winner was named Lin. But tell me again how there was no bigotry involved.
Her race and gender wasn't the only main thing that cause the backlash. There's also the design, which something that people aren't used to yet back then.
That’s right. And tell me the race and gender of the people who stood beside her to fight against the backlash and who defended her original design and fought to get it actually built.
I just read about her story and I think she is a huge inspiration.
It's a shame how Maya's work was initially condemned and met with scorn ( which seems to happen to many artists) upon initially unveiling her design for the Vietnam War Veterans Memorial. Myself, I found it to be the most moving monument upon my own visit to DC. I'm thrilled that Maya has since garnered the acclaim she deserved. In the end, she had the last laugh.

if she was any good, she wouldn't be playing the 'poor women'' card.
Sono Tom in what way is she “playing the poor women card”? There were people who pulled their funding for this memorial when they discovered the architect was female and Asian. She’s simply saying it was an obstacle she experienced, and obviously overcame. If anything, she’s encouraging other women to fight for their place in the world.
And before you say that women fighting for their place in the world is me playing the poor women card, I believe that men have to fight for their place in the world, too.
She's def no good. She just won against 1400 designers...
