Building A OO Gauge Model Railway: Scratch Build Series - 1.7 The Store Front Part 2

- In the second part of this aspect of the build I turn my attentions to fitting the ship door and the very fiddly work of installing the window frames in to the window. Regrettably I failed to hit record at one stage so a wordy description is given for that part, I hope it’s understood and my apologies for my forgetfulness! Anyway, as usual I hope you enjoy.

Hi Paul. Very fiddly work but it came to life once you put the bars in place it looks amazing well done Paul. I look forward to the next stage. Regards George..../.
Thank you George, it was indeed fiddly but well worth the effort. Paul
Just came across this video when I was looking for tips on scratch building stores and that looks fantastic!
Braden, thank you so much. Really appreciate it. Paul
Another excellent video Paul.
Incredible attention to detail and the results are superb
I've got to give this scratch build lark a crack.
Definitely a summer project for when the loft gets too hot.
Thanks Jamie, definitely a summer project and if I know the building you want to tackle it’ll keep you busy for most of it too. I’ll look forward to your endeavours. Paul
Great work. Had to laugh when you were concerned with a half millimetre off! I would be pleased with that as a result!!! Half a yard off is more typical for me! Following the inspiration from this series I am scratchbuilding my first building, a copy of my childhood home. I think you will find this series will rapidly become the de facto go to series for scratch building on you tube. Prepare to be famous!!!!
Ha, glad you were entertained by it. I certainly wasn’t at the time, ripped it up and did it again before recording but still got the flamin’ angle wrong! Not so sure fame will come knocking at my door but it really does please me to know others are being inspired to give scratch building a go. I’m going to have to up my game next time round. 😂 Paul
When I get home at the weekend I will PM you a picture of my build so far. M.
Both entertaining and educational Paul , 1.6 & 1.7 both good videos
You’re nearing the end now John, I’m glad they are still entertaining you and thank you once again for your support. Paul
Awesome piece of work Paul, you are a fantastic scratch builder. ....David.
You are too kind David, thank you. Paul
That was top work on the three panel window. The final effect was very good indeed. I agree with Strathpeffer Junction that I wouldn't worry about the slight misalignment. A building of this age will certainly have settled over the years. If everything were straight and true it would be less believable. Stephen.
I’m in total agreement Stephen, I just get a little bit fussy with my work. The real thing certainly isn’t perfection personified so I should settle for what I’ve achieved and be happy with it. Paul
Hi Paul, congratulations on the build so far, it is looking fantastic. Cheers Greg
Thanks Greg, appreciate the comments. Paul
Amazing looking results and it really is looking great...Chris
Thank you Chris. Appreciate the comments. Paul
Very mesmerising and you need the patience of a saint absolutely wonderful look forward to the next chapter thanks .... :0) ... Chris
Thank you Chris. That’s the biggest hurdle over now, next stage is to fit the roof. Paul
Excellent work looking forward to seeing more progress!!
Thank you PlanetJoe. Paul
It just keeps getting better Paul! Love that shop window. Great attention to detail adding the arched tops to the windows. For such a small detail, they really add a lot of interest to the building! And, yes, it was very entertaining. Best, John
John, slightly slow to reply this time but once again, thank you. I’m glad you were entertained by the video. Paul
Really came to life with that meticulous window work. Excellent work! 👍
Thanks as always Anthony for the comments and support. Paul
Simply outstanding work. The shop window is so full of detail and character. While I’m not building this as your doing these builds, I have enjoyed watching every video and seeing this develop. Great work Clint
Thanks Clint, from a basic shell a fairly detailed model can be achieved - one of the aims I had in demonstrating this series. Glad you’re enjoying it. You can get involved next time. 😉 Paul
Lovely little model. Good work! :-)
Thank you Sammy. Paul
Cracking work, that window really makes it something special for me. That's the kind of little bits I like.
Nice one
Cheers Paul
Thanks Paul, I was really pleased with the curves in the framework, just gives it that extra something I think. Paul
Looks Great
Thank you John. Paul
It's coming on a treat! 🙂👍🏻
PS. It's the wee idiosyncrasies that really make a model look really. Don't worry about that discrepancy. It'll make it more believable. These sorts of shop front were rarely entirely symmetrical...unless that's just a Scottish thing?! Lol
Thanks David, I certainly won’t achieve perfection and it’s a good shout to say it’s the idiosyncrasies of these old buildings, I’m going to use that. 😝 In fact, in passing by the real thing recently I did notice that not everything runs square and true so maybe I can get away with it. Paul
Wow, this is an incredible build, I do not have the patience or skill (currently) to do this, so I am amazed how much effort and time has gone into this so thank you paul for sharing.
Thanks Alex, I started these videos in the hope of demonstrating a straight forward process to achieve a realistic looking building. You should give it a go, you might surprise yourself. Paul
You certainly put a lot of fine detail into your scratchbuilding. Looking good.
Geoff
Thanks Geoff, it’s those details that help to create the final effect. Slows the whole build down but worth it in the long run. Paul
The masking tape is a great idea.
I picked that up somewhere down the line but it does prove very useful to aid control. Paul
Fantastic modelling Paul i have really enjoyed watching this build. thanks for taking the time sharing you skills. .look forward to the next part... Pete
Thank you for watching and commenting Pete, I’m so pleased you are enjoying them. Paul
More fantastic work Paul, really wish I had your patience.
Regards
Richard
You should give it a go Richard, you might surprise yourself. Paul
Superb!!
Thanks PJ. Paul
That's looking great, I might actually have a go building something - one day! Also, got to echo what Strathpeffer says, true symmetry would be unlikely in that type of building!
Thank you Grant, you should give it a go if only to pull yourself away from the never ending track laying! David’s right, I only wish I’d thought of that when I was commenting on it. 😂 Paul
👍….gr8 vid
Gr8 comment slohand. Thank you. Paul
Super video again Paul.. Are you heading to Bangor at the weekend..?
Thanks Geoff. I’m afraid I’m not, off on my holibobs tomorrow, a major oversight of mine when booking! Next stop for me will be UMRC in August. Paul
Awesome job it's coming along pretty good I had to go back to the first video to see where you're talkin about the door is two separate doors into one I see that I came back to this video and looking in the background I can see the picture of the house at your modeling starting to look exactly like that house like that photo I do have one question to ask on the right side of the window and the right side of the photo is that one Mill board that's beside the bricks in the photo I can't tell I'll look forward to seeing finished product saying it's really coming along
Thanks Billy, it’s getting there now. Sorry, I’m not sure what part you are referring to in your question. Got my Monday since head on! 😂 Paul
The question was in the background I can see the picture on yourlaptop I can see that picture and to the right beside the window and new door if you're working on it looks like that brick has a little small trim or something on sorry to the side of it
