  • Hey guys! Raising a puppy to not be aggressive is a very important thing for any breed of puppy. There are many breeds that are instinctively used as guard dogs that many people want to own as friendly family pets and may not know how to make these beautiful dogs friendly so I made this video to give you some tips on how to condition your puppy to prevent aggressiveness. The tips I go over in this video include - 1) Heavy Socialization 2) No rough Play 3) No guarding you and 4) give them lots of kisses!!! Thank you, I hope you enjoyed this video!

I just got an mini mini Australian shepherd puppy yesterday he’s 11 weeks old and he’s great with humans so far and my children. He’s great with my 4 cats and my senior beagle/basset hound mix. BUT I’ve also got a 10 week old pit bull puppy, and an 14 week old pit puppy. And for about 85% of the day he’s good with them but every so often when they are around each other he gets nervous and will growl and sometimes will snap, maybe twice he’s done that since we got him yesterday. So I’ve done some research on google and now CZcams that I’ve got a plan to limit and supervise his interactions with each puppy one at a time for a few days so he can get used to the new house (which is his first house he’s ever been in, the breeder I got him from literally kept him in a barn or in a crate in the barn) with only interactions with his litter mates. So maybe (hopefully) he’s just a little scared and nervous and will grow out of it. Because he’s the most precious beautiful looking little boy puppy I’ve ever seen and he wasn’t cheap at all. So I’m hoping that he gets used to the new house and with his new sisters and gets over what he’s going through. What is your opinion?

We've stopped tug and keep away but even when we toss a ball he will get excited and start to growl. We need a way to get rid of energy but everything we do seems to get him worked up and growly. Even when he chases me around the yard he'll start to growl and nip at my pant legs. We're still working on walking on a leash but that's taking some time. Thanks for any tips on ways to play without inciting aggression. (p.s. we give plenty of affection and kisses!)

Awe the Kisses are so good! We just got a puppy and I am making her give lots of kisses.. she actually is shy about the kisses and I dont like that right now so were gonna keep the kisses up.
As for playing aggression you just have to say "no" when you notice the aggression and keep doing that. Repetition really is key to all of this.

@@laughingcorrpseholly4136 my wife and I are laughing at the memories of back then. All the hard work has paid off. We have an amazing dog now. Everyone says how great he is and it’s because we cared enough to search the internet and CZcams for answers and techniques. The shear fact you are looking for answers on here is a sign that it will work out. Puppies nip and bite and use their mouths for everything. Crying out and saying ouch really loud works with some pups. Others need a sterner approach. You can turn your back and ignore them when they are too rough. Just keep watching videos until you find a strategy you think will work. Mom dogs will pin pups on their backs until they stop struggling when they are out of control, this might be too much for some but I tried it and got an immediate response from out little guy. Good luck.

He seems to understand no, as when he goes to bite our hand/face, we tell him no, and he kind of backs away shaking his head and growling, then get in a pounce position and will try to bite again, sometimes he will listen, sometimes he even gives us kisses back, but 98% of the time his just crazy. Not sure if this is normal puppy behaviour, all the training videos of 8 week old pups I've watched, they're all so much calmer. I've started to put him Into " time out" when he gets aggressive, I make sure his settled down and calm before coming back out of his pen. As soon as his out, his back to being super non stop crazy, I also take him outside once an hour for a toilet break and a little run/play, to try and drain some of that high kelpie energy, we also try to distract him with other toys when he starts to bite us, or lure him Into a short training session. I suppose his still in the process of learning, as his only 9 weeks at this stage, but I've just been wondering, he has me exhausted haha. Sorry for the essay.

We also have a 10 year old Border Collie who she is fine with, but when out for a walk, on or off the lead she barks like crazy at any person or dog that may be coming towards us. We’ve tried treats ahead of time as a distraction, stern NO, distraction with food, toy, but non of that works. Unfortunately, with the current COVID situation, she hasn’t had the opportunity to socialise a great deal, outside of the family group. Aside from that she is a normal affectionate, dangerously smart dog. Suggestions warmly/ideas warmly welcomed.

Okay but what to do when your puppy is very social and loves going up to people and getting pets and attention… but one day a woman tried to pet her and she growled at her in a warning not to touch her and came and stood by me protectively out of no where she had never done that before. And another guy tried to pet her and she put her tail between her legs and hid behind me but shes never done this with anyone else. I take that as her being intuitive of them not being ok or maybe they just smelled weird to her?

We have a yellow lab (age about 2 maybe 3) a corgi/Dachshund/blue heeler mix, (age about 6-9) and a Chihuahua dachshund mix. (Age about 3)
Well my family is taking care of a puppy for a few months for a friend and the puppy is under a year old (not sure of the breed but it’s a big dog) very very friendly towards humans but…. Towards other dogs? Not so much
At the time my dad first got the puppy, the only dog in his house was the yellow lab, the puppy was very aggressive with growling and attacking and even humping the yellow lab! (Who is usually dominate but friendly)
Well I just moved in last night and brought along my 2 dogs, the puppy was pretty aggressive to them and showed NO doggy manors (her body was very stiff, hair up, very into their space)
We’ve noticed she is VERY good aggressive to the dogs, if the door to where we keep the dog food is open and they go in there to take a peek while she’s in there? BOOM she attacks, even if they are cornered
The puppy currently is being pretty okay with my dachshund corgi mix and mostly tried to avoid the yellow lab
But with my Chihuahua dachshund (CD for short) mix? Not so great, CD is friendly but she was heavily abused, like horribly by her original owners (my next door neighbors) I saved her from the brink of death. She’s very very attached to me, rarely leaves my side (the dachshund corgi mix was like that at first with me but she grew out of it)
She is pretty protective of me but that’s usually not a issue, she allows the yellow lab and the dachshund corgi mix on the bed with me, but she won’t allow the puppy on the bed, she growls like I’ve never seen her before. Same thing with us just on the couch or me walking around, If the puppy gets a little too lovely on me, or super in my face CD corrects her
I’m not sure exactly what to do
And is CD doing that a bad thing? I mean she’s putting the puppy in her place which is good but I’m not sure how long I can handle all these dog fights
    Help would be greatly appreciated!

But I do tough and pull and play fetch. She loves it. I teach her to let it go. And to "settle" meaning "stop all actions and sit or lay down. And she does it. She is a Shih Tzu and is 4 months old. I wonder if If I'm rough playing or making her aggressive?? But she growls at every play session. Bearly barks. So I don't think it's bad. Any advice???

i wish i had seen your video when my puppy was younger. When he gets mad about his nails being filed or his teeth being brushed he growls. Anytime he is mad he growls at his brother (they're from the same litter), and sometimes bites his brother. When he is mad at me he gets mad and aggressive at his brother because he somehow knows not to be aggressive with me. He will growl at me if i am doing grooming he doesn't like, but he has never bitten me. He growls at his brother and often doesn't want my husband or i to give his brother attention, only him. They are 9 months old now. What should i do about his growling now? And his biting. My husband tried to hold him down to brush his teeth tonight, and he was growling a lot, but my husband held him and kept trying to brush his teeth, and he bit my husband's hand. He didn't bite hard enough to break the skin , but we were shocked because he has never bitten either of us before, even though he always growls over nail filing and teeth brushing.
Both dogs love people and other dogs. We often go to the beach and see lots of people and lots of dogs, and are always happy and friendly with strangers and dogs they are meeting for the first time. They have never been aggressive to other people or dogs, only one is aggressive to the other at home, and now this biting my husband incident tonight.

Should i put him in a crate for a minute if he growls? We have never used a crate with them. i now realize i have been handling this all wrong, but i don't know what to do now.

What I’m alarmed at the most is that I let her sleep in bed with me (like I have done with my 2 previous dogs & never had an issue except them hogging up the bed each night). Well when I try to move her lil butt over while she is sleeping, she growls and tries to bite me. I turn on the lights and scold her NO, but 2 weeks in and she has done it like 6x .. vet said put her in the crate to sleep. I was hoping to fix it though. She is a lab mix.

Some dogs do nip and bite when they are awakened by sudden movement especially when it’s on a vulnerable part of their body like their rear (near their tails). One training a dog handler/trainer suggested is to softly call out the name of the pup and wait till theyre awake and then move them. Pr at least try to wkae them up by talking in a non aggressive manner so as not to trigger the normal fear/sleeping aggression response. Another thing that helped was to put treats near our bed and try to shake the back of my pup and when he looked, I’d move him to where I want him and of he doesnt growl or bite, offer one of the treats and praise. It took maybe 2 weeks of using treats then gradually just relying on praise alone but eventually, a quick tap on my puppy’s back was enough to get his attention and so he would either move out of my way or wait for me to move him where I wanted to. Hope this could be helpful.

Every time when I try and play with her she would bite very hard and it’s like she’s trying to rip my hand out. It’s not only my hands, but my face, legs, thighs, even belly. And even if I scream or cry she just doesn’t care haha.
My loved ones are the ones that stop her and it’s becoming worse and worse and I feel like my pup hates me know. I reached out a local trainer and he told me the tongue thing and ever since then my family uses this method although it’s clearly making things worse.
I’m afraid that my pup will just lose control and snap and our bound will never recover. It breaks my heart.
Please, if any of you can give me any other advice I will happily try it out. Thank you :)

When she tries to bite hold her neck from the top using your right hand and hold the chin up put pressure a little bit so the mouth is closed then point her face right in front of your eyes then stare at her eyes dont look away just stare at her in the eyes if she look at you then start staring at you tell her say NO! No! NO! if her eye moved look away while you guys staring at each other then that's a good thing she scared of you and you are the alpha but if she just staring at you her eyes not moving anywhere but only direct to you then that's a bad thing it means she dominating you and she will be the BOSS your boss so you better correct her and show her who is the real alpha now go work on it

      @bala.subas0876 Před 4 lety

You better not show her you scared of her cuz the more you scared the more she will dominate you! So you gotta step up as the alpha

Hey my puppy is very aggressive! He'll bite my ankles extremely hard, whenever we try to pet him or carry him to his cage he'll full on bite you and snarle his nose while growling. He's sweet when tired but when he's not he'll go crazy and start barking for a while. My parents want to give him away but I still have faith in this dog. I really need help!!

you have to just keep working on positive reinforcement and saying "no" when she bites. Good luck!

My lab shepherd puppy gets mad and bites hard if I tell her no for biting me and try to ignore her or take a leash or something she shouldn't have. The only things that work are time outs in the crate or playing with some of her stuffies. It's worse because I have trouble walking so I'm crawling up and resting at the top of the stairs and usually taking off her leash and wiping her down when she is most aggressive and bites me the hardest....usually unarmed with height, a leash, toys, food, or dominance

I'm worried but still aim to reinforce good behavior & train my puppy (currently 3 months). I think my puppy's aggression is getting worse. I mean we are now in the phase of Biting Inhibition & Impulse Control. Impulse Control with the food is going good BUT when it's about Biting Inhibition, it's still a failure. Naturally, he's now in teething phase & prone to mouthing - btw he's a half pomeranian, we dk the other breed since he was only given to us & the previous owner doesn't know the other breed too. I've already searched about his breed esp his temperament so I already expect him to be intelligent & extrovert yet very impatient. When he's out of his crate, he is free to roam inside the house or even sleep where he feels safe, but when we (esp me) walk peacefully HE SUDDENLY PLAYS ROUGH, esp play biting our legs & it gets painful as times goes by leaving a few shallow scratches. When we correct him with "STOP" or sometimes with a firm "SHH", at first we were able to get his attention yet now, he also barks back and growls...as if a child who answers back. Then eventually, he gets his zoomies. He is really an excited pup, but sometimes I suspect that his zoomies might also be due to stress? I know at the first days that he came here, we unknowingly reinforced rough playing since we weren't informed yet about training dogs (but when we learned about it, we slowly started to train him. Training was paused for a while when he got sick). I'm quite getting overwhelmed & sometimes feel anxious because most of the time, I'm the one training him & I wonder where did I get wrong; I feel sad whenever I think that I might be the one that made him like that. Yet, he's still 3 months & I still have this hope that perhaps he will learn, we just need consistent proper training, right? *sighs* I just want him to grow up like a dog who is safe both to visitors & kids that he will meet in the future. I also feel frustrated whenever my family isn't consistent with the training or even using a diff command (when I already told them to be consistent), making me think it's more difficult to train dogs than humans. This became too long, sorry.

I'm worried because I got a rottweiler puppy since she was 1 month and a half, and now she is 10 weeks. The problem is that she was always very agressive towards everyone, she bites (draws blood) and growls at me showing her teeth. I've tried stoping her biting with toys, play, treats but nothing seems to work. She is getting more difficult by the day and I don't know what to do.

    • @drlindsaybutzer

Oh no that’s not good! You might have to invest in training

Rottweilers are not everybody especially if someone is weak minded. They will definitely try to boss you around if you're soft. Use a bonker (rolled up towel) to stop the dog bad behavior.

True story my old buddy who is a German shepherd when she was 4 month old she got very aggressive with her siblings but I thought thats how she plays but nah so after couple days of this behavior I knew it was time to show who is the alpha and some discipline I took them all on cold forest adventure in Alaska (dont worry I they had very warm clothing) we go out on small walks in the snow so one day it got very blizzary I immediately put them all in my backpack warm and cozy but i left her outside she started crying she tried and wanted to get in but i just ignored her after couple minutes of walking i stopped and waited she came up to me and sat down waiting for my approval so i did she now learned to obey and allow comfort from others and to never upset me again will she still does cus she always licks the heck out of the neighbors cat but the cat doesnt seem bothered._.
