      Do you prefer the 55mm f1.8 or the 50mm f2.5 G?(i talk

@@mattiafalappi5516 this is exactly the question ive been looking for answers. First, i will be using it heavily towards video, and i think the lack of declicked aperture ring on the 55mm wont be bothering too much due to the use of vnd filter, but on the other hand im wondering would that extra 5mm make much difference?
Then for these two lenses being a lightweight lenses, when in handheld situations which would be better in terms of less jittery shot. It’d be much appreciated if anyone could help in answering this.

Smaller is definitely a step in the right direction.
For fifties, I have an AF Minolta f1.7, an Industar 50-2, a couple of CZJ Tessars, the Takumar 1.4, and two Macro Takumars, 1:1 and 1:2. I'm also waiting on another Tessar removed from a Zeiss Ikon Contessa LK and adapted to m42, and a Kiev 3 with the Jupiter 8 Sonnar 50mm f2. In addition, I have copies of the three Takumar 55's, the 1.8, 2 and 2.2 and am awaiting a Konica Auto S2 from which I'll adapt the Hexanon 45mm f1.8 lens for use on the Sony a7. As someone who prefers wide angle, I'm starting to warm up to the "standard" focal length. Your review of the new Sony lens was very impressive, better than others I've seen, but it's the 40mm lens in the set that interests me since I'm inclined to regard that focal length as the most useful and pleasing.

it reminds me of the old zeiss vntage 50/2.8 which was called eagle's eye. The earlier aluminium version for exakta etc is tiny - also preset and even on present sensor's very sharp. Later they made one with a metal encasing with a mfd of 35mm - like this present sony (31-35). I think the design - formfactor and optics + AF of the sony is premium. However I already have the samyang 45mm f1.8 & - also very lightweight with a special rendering but without some of the sony features + I also have the sigma 65 & a collection of vintage 50s. However for those wanting a compact 50 - this is a really good option.

I was looking for a small prime lenses that I could adapt to the Nikon ZF, I found that Megadap had an adapter that could use Sony E mount glass with the electronic connection between the lens and camera. I decided to pick the 24mm G lens from this three lens series as I had not used adapters before, when I got the lens and adapter and set up my Nikon ZF, the camera was set to single shot auto focus but the information when the lens and adapter was in place showed manual focus and the lens aperture did not register, I was not happy with the setup and ended up buying a Open box Sony A7II from Adorama camera for 860 with tax and shipping included in the kit was the 28-70 f 3.5-5.6 lens, I was surprised that the camera was even smaller than the Panasonic S5 and S5 MKII and the lens makes this a great compact every day full frame camera that cost me less than a Olympus EM5 MKIII. The camera is a older version with only 1 sd memory card but as a every day and travel camera it's perfect.

Realy sad that it have a small aperture. Samyang 45mm F1.8 have barely the same size, and cost 200 dollars

nifty fifty means, small and fast 50 prime which this totally is.
It also, as far as Sony G lenses line up goes, priced OK

Never seen 50mm lens this size. From a 20yrs "professional photographer". At lease one sentence above is a lie, lmao

how even does your comment make any sense?
You don't believe that I haven't seen a smaller 50mm lens than this or that I am a professional photographer?

It's been decades since 50mm f1.8 was smaller and cheaper than this lens. FFS@@PavSZ

@@K.LivermoreTT 50mm f1.8 is cheaper and lighter but not smaller. Also optically is much worse.
