Disturbed - The Sound of Silence [Live in Dawson Creek, NC, Canada] - Hudba
My nomination for the greatest cover of all time. I'm 60, grew up with the original. Disturbed's version, especially the last verse, never fails to give me chills up and down my spine.
Ditto
Im with you!
I've studied classical voice for years. Anyone who has, may have learned that any unnatural sound like yelling or screaming can seriously damage your vocal chords. The technique he has to go from a screaming sound to a clean tone (not to mention back and forth between the two) is nothing short of amazing. His range is incredible. I've seen and read interviews with him and he is very knowledgeable on how the voice works and he sounds very disciplined on keeping it healthy. (staying hydrated, nonsmoking, no drinking, even the temperature of beverages) Anyone who knows what it takes to develop and maintain a voice like his would seriously appreciate his vocal and him as a singer. One of my all time favorite bands. Love their sound, versatility and power of their words. Really hoping to see them in concert this tour.
I'm just not a Disturbed fan, but I must say that, in my 55 years, I do believe this is the most epic cover I have ever heard.
+NihongoGuy That's a hell of a thing to say. Hats off to you, good sir.
+NihongoGuy Same here :) This is awesome!!!!!
+NihongoGuy My father is a very conservative preacher, and almost 60, and I had him listen to this and he says he thinks they portrayed the true meaning of the lyrics better and gave the song a new life. And he loves the original and usually cant stand Disturbed.
Ronnie, I could not have said it better. (And I'm a conservative pew sitter.... :) )
The greatest cover I have ever heard. I never knew of Disturbed before, but have become a fan, and I'm 70 years young. Great job David.
It is rare, but every so often, a song is written or remade by a singer or a band, that is so powerful that it can bring tears to the eyes of the most hardened heart. This is one of those songs, offered to the world by one of those bands. Bravo!
This isn't their song tho😂😂😂
Did you notice that I said "or remade", or did you just skim over what I wrote?
+P Toth
Scott Pilgrim: I skimmed it.
Mathew Pattel: You will pay for your insolence!
+P Toth Poor thing is probably illiterate.
Well said. I'm old enough to remember the original on the radio. Disturbed's version never fails to move me. From a whisper to a scream. He seems to give the words far more gravitas than S & G did. Beautifully done.
It's really amazing how much his voice doesn't change between the studio and the live version... this is what I call an ARTIST.
I am 71 and have just fallen in love with David Draiman, am sure he will be over the moon! What a wonderful cover of Sound of Silence.
Sebastian Van herle he is classically trained
ABSOLUTELY ❣
235 people must have been in shock and awe while listening to this and dropped their listening device and accidentally hit the thumbs down button.
This is by far, the best remake EVER..
I am disturbed to see 143 dislikes for this song. I am 54 years old and love the original by simon and garfunkel, but love this even more, and it's great that the young generation can hear such a wonderful version. Anyone that tells me this is no good would be greeted with the sound of silence and I would walk away
+giorgio tardio They must have hit the "dislike" button by accident. But shame on them anyway.
i'm 66 and love it
I'm 60! And it would be my honor and pleasure to walk away with you!
I will gladly walk with you...powerful! is an understatement!
giorgio tardio I'm 68 and love it. And if I make to 100 I will still love it.
I listen to this song on a daily basis. I've been battling 2 types of cancer for the past 11 months, osteosarcoma and a very rare blood cancer that will mutate to leukemia, I know there is no cure and have come to accept my fate, every day I battle with the thoughts of ending it before this illness takes me, I feel like a burden on my wife and society as I used to be extremely independent and now every movement is excruciatingly painful, the things we take for granted becomes a choir, going to the washroom exhausts me. My wife's dream was to see Celine Dion, in 2019 I made that dream come true and took her to Montreal to see Celine in concert. The other day she told me Disturbed is coming to Toronto for a concert, there is nothing I would love more than to take her to that concert, but as it sits, my health will not allow me to go, so instead, I bought a new 65" qled 8k tv, and a 9.2 onkyo sound system and play this song every day, blasting it, feeling the words they speak, and every single time I listen to this song, there are 2 things that cross my mind,
1) the beautiful things that the human race can do,
2) when I pass I will be singing this song to ease my sorrow.
My god dat voice... I think David has the most powerful sound I have ever heard. So powerful it gives me chills
never?
Aidan Raymond ever* haha
+TightyWhities94 agreed..
+TightyWhities94 Both David and Benjamin Burnley have very powerful voices :)
+TightyWhities94 I know, right?
Where are the people making the excuses of Autotune now? Dude can sing, just accept it.
that's why this is better than studio version. it's pure. the studio version was so auto tuned you could hear the notes stretch
+Chris Miller I've listened to the studio version. Never heard the autotune
+Justin Willhoit so you must think people voices naturally stretch in impossible, kind of robotic, ways. gotcha.
+Chris Miller Reverb yes. Auto tuned machine no.
+Chris Miller I heard it too, but just a little bit. Dont know what others are talking about here
Doing it live IS the Litmus test. David knocked it out of the park, much respect.
+Donald Cameron AGREED! Plus featuring the tympani drum in this live version was brilliant! I love watching the drummer too! Oh, and now I see the violinists there too ...how awesome! have only watched this like 55 times...duh...another brilliant addition!
You don't need to be a disturbed or rock fan. You need to love music and realize this is genius. Very uplifting
I accidentally downloaded it, played it and then deleted it because of the original song. The song grew on me so I downloaded it again. I was wrong to delete it the first time, Disturbed did a remarkable job with this remake. The original was right for its time and so is this version, very powerful, great job guys, and yes I'm 65.......
I'm an old guy (58) and loved Simon & Garfunkel's music. Sound of Silence is a favourite. I had never heard of Disturbed until I heard their version of Sound of Silence on the radio. I have to say that I'm blown away by it. If anything it has more feeling, passion and grit than the original. It makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end which is the sign of a great song. Only a few songs have done this to me. UNBELIEVABLE!
If they don't win a Grammy for this song, there is something wrong with the Grammy's!! Can I get an Amen?!
AMEN
AMEN to that, even when I'm atheist.
Amen
amen..
They won't win a Grammy. Today, you need to be part of the mainstream and a commercial success. They still give Grammys to people who deserve them, but it's been DECADES since rock was last seen as the "in" thing, so they normally give grammys to pop artists.
only recently become a disturbed fan after hearing sound of silence. had to go out and buy the album. I just turned 50 and my daughter couldn't believe my choice in music lol love it
Sue Richards 💜🖤 Sounds vaguely familiar. I am 69 year's young & my boyfriend (we've been together almost 21 years, & oh by the way he is 12 yrs younger) came off the road ( long haul trucker) & asked " what did you do with my darlin"? He's hooked now too!!!💜🖤🤘
I am 64 and love this band!
I'm 71 years old and I love this version, I was around when the original came out and I loved that too. David Draiman you are a true artist, I feel are very emotional when listening to your version, well done
Very seldom does a song cover do the original justice... Not only does Disturbed to it justice in this case but I believe they have improved it, just wow...Powerful performance
I'll agree with seldom. There are a few that match the original, which is hard since we're already accustomed to the original, and accept it as how the song should sound. FFDP's choice of Bad Company is on point, but I think this cover actually is a vast improvement on the original. I'm impressed at the care some of these bands are taking revisiting some of the music that has influenced them.
+Chance Hopson Never do a cover song if you can't add something to it. They've definitely added something. And changing the mood from sad and hopeful to sad and angry makes it speak to our generation(s).
+Chance Hopson I am a huge fan of simon and garfunkel. And I agree with you.
I agree with you all. The mark of a good artist is to take a song and make it your own. And boy have they done that. Joyous find. It makes a beautiful change to find modern music with a soul and heart
remember they also had land of confusion which was a Genesis cover
Touching, bittersweet irony ... "And the people bowed and prayed to the neon god they'd made" while the crowd holds up their phones as flames. This is the best cover song I've ever heard, very powerful, and this live version gives me chills!
+Jigoku Shoujo (Jinx) BUT isn't "the crowd holding up their phones as flames" not the "people bowing and praying to the neon god they have made"? Think about it.
+MrKevinStraub No. They're being used to emulate something else, not worshipped.
+MrKevinStraub Oh, I was thinking of Paul Simon's original thoughts on the song, it was his observation of people in the city not looking at each other, not talking, buried in magazines or newspapers ... now today, people are always looking at their cellphones, even sitting at the same table. That's the sweet irony. The original is just as relevant today as it ever was. 😊
He asked us to hold up out phones for a couple.
I can't tell you how many times I have listened to this and each and every time it just gives me chills! His voice!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Holy fuck, his voice can carry a message..
I've never listened to Disturbed, but have known who they were for years. I gave this song a listen and am so glad I did. OMG chills, man.... CHILLS!!
Who knew dude could sing like this?
Sending a Special 'Thank-You'
to the Band 'Disturbed'
for
Continuing to Sing this SONG 🎵
"The Sound Of Silence"
.
"Fools, I said you do not know! Silence like a cancer grows." Such a true line. Too true.
+vgman94 "Fools, said I, you do not know!"*
+Rich ''Fools'', said I, ''you do not know!''*
+Olivier Chiasson "Fools," said I, "you do not know!"*

+Jacodemon "Fools, said i, you do not know!"*
JefftheslimeYT - Minecraft and vlogs You're trying too hard and now you have failed.
This song makes me teary-eyed every time I listen to it. David did such an AMAZING cover of this song. It's gorgeous
HE....TOTALLY .... NAILED .... IT!!!!
ya he did. It was amazing
What you said!!!!!! This is the song I want played as my ashes are strewn.
This is not music, this is screaming. He ruined the original song...
I actually think this version is a million times better than the original.
David Draiman... You sir are a vocal god. The power behind those low notes melts my mind. Try as I might, I will never have that ability. I completely envy you sir.
The success of this song just shows how hungry society was for a breath of fresh air from the music industry
Every time I hear "Disturbed's" Version of this song, my eyes start to get wet. Having grown up in the 60's and 70's when this great song was first released, I've seen the changes (everything still remains the same) in our country. Disturbed may be the one rock band in the last 50 years to re-awaken the current generation and rally us to fight back against the Corporate Machine that has stolen our elections, our civil liberties and brainwashed and polarized our citizens. God Bless You "Disturbed." You've done much more than just make a great Cover Song. You've put SOUL back into a wonderful song that was rapidly becoming "Elevator Music" for our current times. I cannot thank you guys enough.
P.S. You have such a wonderful voice and I've heard the rest of your album. Please be careful with those vocal chords my friend. Unlike a guitar, you can't just replace them when they get worn out, and such an amazing strong voice like yours needs to be carefully taken care of. I know you guys are "METAL" and screaming is a part of what you do musically...but man I would hate to see you go the way of Robert Plant. He too had a fantastic and beautiful range. But the touring, and screaming and so on eventually killed those golden altos he had. You guys have so much more to do in your careers. Take care of yourselves.
Thanks.
Marty Weeks.
Your comment was a pleasure to read. By that I mean... nice to see a really intelligent comment :)
Disturbed fans I commend thee. I have found any hate speak here. Loving the praise for this brilliant remake!!
My angel in heaven Wyatt my son thank you for turning your old man on to Disturbed I did not understand as the cancer took you how important this music was for you he is awesome sauce
Sorry for your loss, RIP
+Richard Slanina I'm so sorry you experienced this but he gave you such joy and new experiences you shared. He's always with you.
Listen to hold on to the memories by disturbed. You’ll love it
I lost my boyfriend of 8 years this Jan. As if this song doesn’t want to make you cry already. I yet to find my way to the cemetery and have been putting together a playlist to listen to when I go in the spring. He actually told me about this too, like your Wyatt did for you. Isn’t it horrible how something so beautiful can also bring with it pain. Here’s to your Wyatt 💕
I am obsessed with this song
+MegaLastingBeauty beautifully done and arranged...love the tympani and violins on stage too! very lovely!
Me too. ..
His voice is so unique.
Me too
The range of his voice is one of a kind!
Not enough people appreciate good timpani work.
that is because few people have experienced the difficulty of learning these instruments. the whole group was excellent throughout the performance.
I think everyone who watches this video appreciates the amazing part the timpani drum plays in this song.
Absolutely. That reverberated in my chest listening to this. Outstanding.
I do have to say it would sound better if he stayed in the zones of the each timpano; as in he played in the "sweet spot" where the tone stays reverberated. Now I am not at all saying I'm better, but am just stating a point many purcussionists such as myself saw.
Timpanist did a FAB job here...omg! I know it's the band's drummer but still! so awesome!
I love it when bands do something different that you never expect. The are playing acoustic guitar, piano, and kettle drums and doing an amazing job at it!
i couldn't be a more proud canadian right now
Disturb the Sound of Disturbed... Please, come in Italy... you are simply the best! \m/
this maybe the best cover ever produced . his reach is amazing
better than the original version and the original is very good.
It's just stunning. I am 67 and around for the original, but his version did so much justice for the song. He expressed the song with his amazing voice
The best cover version I have heard of this song, have loved the original for over 40 years but I now have a new favourite.
the first time I heard this I sat here and cried ..I had never heard this group before and it sounds like a soldier singing this song it gave this song such a meaning that my husband a 30 year war Vet stop what he was doing and cried..this man got it right
+Karen Starns Im active Navy and have been for 15 years and have iraq, afghanistan and multiple ship tours and it hits places that have been hidden for years. I never cared for the group, but hey di this exactly how it was supposed to be done.
I am not a fan of disturbed but I am a fan of music and this cover is Fucking awesome. I tip my hat to the whole band on this magical live perfrormance
+Michel Dubois Ditto. word for word.
+Michel Dubois I'm not a big fan either, but I have to admit, every cover they do is just as good, if not better than, the original.
I am, and have always have been a disturbed fan, this song does rule, I remember the Simon and Garfunkel version also. I'm old, lol.thank you for posting.
way better than the studio version imo. his voice is so raw and powerful
Whooooweeee. Now that was BADASS!!! Mr. Draiman has a voice that gives a person chills. Thanks Disturbed for rocking us for all these years. It sure makes life easier listening to such a powerful voice with such a message
DAT VOICE.
A masterpiece based on a masterpiece. Beautiful arrangement and changes.
I actually prefer the Disturbed version to the original... The slow tempo really adds to the beauty of this song, great job Disturbed!
Indeed I'm old enough to have been privileged to hear and appreciate the original rendition at the time that it came out. Having said that, this rendition, from David's voice as well as the rest of the band's intensity, I can truthfully say that they scored big on this, Emotional intensity way over the top. Way to go everyone.
+John Wiesner It really is EPIC...I grew UP with Simon & Garfunkel...and their own live versions of this song are beautiful too...but *THIS* version/cover takes the song to ANOTHER level altogether! Love the tympani drum & violins here too!
How 51 people can dislike this is beyond my comprehension. They sound just as good live as on the album. Seriously how many bands can make that claim?
Cameron Rice idiots
Very nice,im wainting for disturbed in Brazil!
(:
:3 HueBr
cade os BRs ?
aeew !!!
Absolutely brilliant. Damn near better than the the original. Paul Simon would not disagree, he would be honoured that this man covered it so brilliantly and beautifully.
For the first time since 1964 I actually listened to the words of The Sound of Silence. Awesome job by David.
That is nothing short of outstanding!!!!
I went to the doctors today. The doc said i was coming down with the sickness.
OH WAHAHAHA
hahahahah
but were you disturbed ?
Hope it wasn't cancer
PumpkinPeel
my daughter is 7 weeks old. every time she tries to go to sleep she has to hear this song 3 or 4 times. it soothes her. Thank you so much David for your amazing performances. it makes parenting a lot easier. :)
he's even better live than on the album
No auto tune. Great vocals still, imperfections and all.
Dat voice is legit. I like that eventho so many songs he basicaly has to scream and shout, it remains there, over all those years when others tends to lose it.
Very right you are.
I want to first say that I am a big fan and huge follower of Simon and Garfunkel, and have been for probably 35 years. So when I heard that Disturbed (a band that I knew very little about) was going to remake the original version of this song, I had big doubts that it could be done in a manner that would pay homage to Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. So when I first heard Disturbed's version, I was absolutely blown away. It is rare that any band/musician can play a cover tune and do it justice, and it is even more rare that the band can can put their touch and spin on it and make it even better. That is what we have here. This version is so freaking powerful, so unique and so emotional and so touching. I loved the interview David gave where he explains how/who came up with the idea to remake the song and even more importantly the brains behind how they were going to do it. This was nothing short of a brilliant remake of a classic song. Job well done to Disturbed.
I didn't know who Disturbed was until I watched the Sound of Silence on CZcams three days ago. I cannot describe how much of an impact it had on me!! I told my son about it and he said, "remember when I went to Dawson Creek a few weeks ago? That's why we went. We had an extra ticket." I hope next time you make a stop in BC, it's in Prince George. 😇
This is better than the original, and that's coming from someone in their 50's.
Good shit!!
+bogey19018 gotta be honest; AGREE! And I'm a decade older than you! I hope there's some kind grammy for covers!
Covers are the only half decent music of today. The talent was in the 60's through the early 80's (for me anyway).
We will, thanks.
Chills, goosebumps, the whole deal. David's pouring every last bit of his heart & soul into this, and DAMN can you feel it! Would liked to have seen how many in the crowd were crying after that...
+Jeff K You should see his interview when he explained how the band talked about doing this cover. David went into the booth for, I think it was 8 hours straight, and he said "When I came out 8 hours later, everyone looked like they just saw a ghost. I didn't know if it was a good or bad thing."
+Jerry Dodge Thanks! Yeah, I found that interview a couple days after posting this. I easily admit I've been somewhat obsessing over it. LOL. This is such a POWERFUL cover. In my mind, this is how the song should have been rendered all along. No mistake, S&G created a *beautiful* piece of work, but it's been waiting for just this kind of treatment.
+Jerry Dodge Meaning posting my first comment, not this vid.
+Jerry Dodge Welcome to the club, brother! Just found out this eve, talking to my actual brother, he's been obsessing too. This is the stuff of legends.
I never knew about this band till yesterday. I am a dane living in the US and listened to the radio from Denmark. They played this song with Disturbed and I was floored, goose bumps and tears. Powerful and so intense. What a treat !!!
The most metal Timpani player EVER.
One of the best songs ever written.......and he does the original justice......nicely done!
+Happy Canuck Yep, I grew up in the 60's so am well familiar with the original and now I also greatly appreciate this cover...just superb! I like BOTH versions for what they are...and you can find some really super versions of Simon & Garfunkel performing this song live on youtube.
I just LOVE their version...even better than Simon & Garfunkel's!
I am 59 yer and i have become a big fan of disturbed. This cover is the best i have ever heard. But they have so many song with important meenig for people who have a big fight in life. I love them for sharing this words in music 💝👏
Any band can perform a bomb cover. But to OWN it, is another level. Mad respect!!!
This is one of the best live performances that I have ever seen. Powerful voice and sounded flawless.
This guys voice is totally amazing, I could listen to this all day. It gives me goosebumps everytime. Wish they would come to the UK
all i can do is to replay... replay.. replay... replay... while reminiscing the past..
To the people saying he can't sing.
He's doing this whilst in the throws of what is clearly an illness. A cold or a flu. It's freaking obvious. And it STILL sounds this good.
Why are they so damn good at covers? Its almost unfair to other artists.
bruh that is definitely not a cover they took the old version lit it on fricken fire and claimed the rights to own it. lmfao this one literally blows the original away
+Austin Chippo Respect
+Austin Chippo nah, I've been a Simon and Garfunkel fan since birth. They're both about equal for my likeness
That moment when you find out that Disturbed is not having a concert in your country this year... :(
I am 64 years old. This song is a favorite but this version is beyond anything I have heard.
David's voice is a gift. David is the new Pavarotti.
being a coast to coast listener, I thank George Norry for playing this song by disturbed every sunday night at sign off.
This man's voice is just amazing! I get goosebumps every single time I hear it.
Nothing better than a rock band in concert ! They sound almost the same live as they do on CD. Why, because they actually play instruments and don't need bullshit auto tune over their voices. Great job on this one !!
I'm 51 from Alberta... I had a 2 day job in Dawson Creek BC Canada and DEF LEPPARD was playing that night I went down and LUCKED out and got Front Row Tickets... 7th Row right beside the centre stage...
His voice is like those badass bad guys back in 1880s its so good
kettle drum makes this so hauntingly beautiful plus Draimans voice a d its a winner.
watched it over and over and over. mesmerising!
Unbelievable! I bought 4 disturbed albums because of this song.
Dawson Creek Folks , I want to say thanks you and ENCANA for putting this together.
Who in their right mind would give this a dislike??
Very disturbed souls
Wow...just wow. I'm having all the goosebumps. Devine.
Who else thinks this live performance is better than the actual one on the album
I'm not a fan of Disturbed. Actually never heard of them. But, this 68 yr.old grandmother felt goosebumps the first time I heard their video clip. Best version, especially in our world today.
Really hope Disturbed adds Ottawa to their current tour!
He disturbed the sound of silence! simply AMAZING!!!
I wonder how many disturbed fans would still like this song if they were aware of who the original artists are?
Absolutely mind blowing guys. Your voice, the power and the depth, clarity and sheer brilliance in tone is a treasure and wonder to behold. Both my wife and I love to sing and if i could only just get to a tenth of the power of your voice, I would be the happiest man on earth. ROCK ON guys, a mind-blowing cover like this is a once in a life time experience - a true joy!
new concert dvd
please?
Seriously can't get enough of this song. His voice is perfection. Why did it take me so long to fine this awesome band?!?! Watching all of their videos now and love all of them!
+Violet Baker I've always been a huge fan, but why in the hell did it take me so long to find this cover?
+Jerry Dodge lol After hearing this I listened to more of their music and I'm definitely a new fan. Have you seen the video of them singing this live in Conan? Amazing. Like I haven't found one bad performance.
Yeah, that's the one that caught my attention. If I remember right, Heavygrinder shared it on Facebook and I was instantly hooked. But Disturbed is also the first concert I've ever been to, when I was like 15.
I would love to see them live. I loved going to concerts back in the day. I didnt think I would like this kind of music but he is just too talented not to like.
One of the few songs which is miles better than the original...I love it
David has the strongest and deepest voice I have ever heard, this band is amazing.
Im nearly 60--love this cover .What a fantastic, stunning voice.Perfect !!
i get goosebumps everytime i hear him sing this. very emotional for me listening to this
Lyrically Simon & Garfunkel are hard to beat. A brilliant version of a magic song.
+JohnB Baumfield Yes, I grew up listening to S&G, this version is captivating and beautifully done...LOVE the tympany drum in it too!
Disturbed's version of this song is so beautiful! David's voice fits this song so perfectly and adds so much emotion!
