- Hey, I'm Tommy and welcome to the 'Two Wheels Tommy' channel. MOT time really crept up with my 2019 Honda CB125F! I take a ride to Bembridge Motor Services (BMS) here on the Isle of Wight and see what goes into getting the old girl a new MOT. Will she pass? Will she fail? Will they discover something that could have ended with a visit to a ditch somewhere? Tune in to find out :)
This series will follow my progress from my CBT all the way to getting my full bike licence. Gaps along the way will be filled with product reviews for items I will use along the way to see what works and what doesn't, and what you really do need, and honestly don't need! You can also expect some beautiful rides out around the beautiful Isle of Wight where I call home, and shopping for my first 125cc motorcyle...

Why don’t you like riding with your visor down? If it’s because it fogs up I would highly recommend getting a pin lock visor, completely solved the fog issue for me
Hey, no I've not yet had any fogging. Because I use polarised glasses, I get a weird oilslick effect when looking through those and the helmet lense. I can still see fine out of it but I don't like it! My next helmet will hopefully have Pin Lock, and a sun visor 👍
I have the same problem as you with glasses so this season I am ready to use contact lenses, disposable ones. You won't get away with visor up in summer, bugs at 100 klm is quite painful 😅@@TwoWheelsTommy
@irishcoffeetruecrime I hear you. When I did my CBT a couple of flying objects whacked my helmet - I wouldn't have fancied them in the face. Bug season will be commencing shortly!
Cancel that indicator, bosch!
Love the content mate! Safe riding
Haha absolutely, thanks for watching! Ride safe yourself 💪
Your speed, gearchanges and road positon are so much improved from your first vids. It gives me hope !
Thanks, it takes a while to figure out what works for you. I enjoy it even more each time I go out 😀
Wouldn't say it's weird to have a favourite bend to go around, I prefer going right 😂
That's good to know!
I made a go kart once that had a massive steering bias, it would turn one way like on rails but would tip up the other way. Engineering is not my strong point.😂
Haha, perhaps that is the issue here. I'd best inform Honda 🤣
Might be related to your triple tree that MOT caught. But it is common for riders to have a preference. It was mentioned in training.
Always felt very fortunate with MOT’s for my bikes. My Dad was a well known bike mechanic in the area and he’d always make sure they were ready for MOT. Once I took a bike in and when I went to collect the paperwork I noticed it hadn’t even been taken off the centre stand where I’d left it. The tarmac was soft and the stand had dug in and it was still in the same indent. 😂
As always You cheer me up such a happy chappy, and how out was I 😂 and I like left hand bends as well just for the record don't know why weird stay safe .
Haha thank you! The corner thing is weird isn't it!
To start everyone is more dominant in leaning one 1 side over the other. More practice and pushing your comfort zone will get that symmetrical and fluent in no time. Great vid mate
That's good to know, glad it's not just me! Thank you 👊
You can't complain about that price. Nice one. 👍😆
Yes, I thought it was vey reasonable. Result!
In the US that would have been the tax on the service fees.
@whollymindless Wow, expensive over there then!
Dealers generally work "from the book". Best to find an independent shop and pay actual time taken.
LOVE the content brother
Cheers, thankls for watching!
Once I've finally got my CBT done and ready for DAS I'm going to be after the super meteor 650, they're beautiful bikes. Great video, interesting to see the process.
I'm sure you'll love that when the time comes. Lovely bikes!
Yep good mot place with the viewing area etc. Seems pretty typical faults on your bike. Good to have an honest mechanic who doesnt blag you. Best bet is to go through as many easy fixes as you can before you take it there eg chain, guard etc. Great stuff! 👍😎 Ps 38 quid is great cant go wrong with that!
Yeah I like how it was quite old school. The service received was excellent, as was the price. I shall know what to have a look at next time 😀
Hey Tommy another great vid! I’ve been riding my cb125f from the same year for 2 weeks now and loving the ride very much so. Mine flew through it’s mot with no advisory’s luckily. Also, I used to be very bad at leaning on the right side and would take right hand turns fairly slow. Lots of practice will make leaning either way fluent. Happy riding mate!
Hey, nice work getting no advisories! It's weird you say that, after I mentioned it in the video I started thinking more about the leaning and it felt much better. Something to keep practicing 👍 Happy riding yourself!
@@TwoWheelsTommy love to hear it mate. I read in another comment you’ve only racked up 140 odd miles so far so you for sure have a lot more miles to come before every little thing becomes muscle memory. I’ve had my cb125f for 2 weeks but already racked up 500+ miles as I live in London but commute to the midlands daily for work. I’m a sound engineer so I bought the bike for cheaper long term mileage and quicker commutes. I may miss out on the motorways but the dual carriageways that travel at the same speed make up for it. I’d say around 300 miles in you’ll be treating the old girl like an extension of your body.
@loki2wheels Ha yes I've not ridden it a lot to be fair. Everywhere is close over here. You have really racked up some serious mileage in 2 weeks so fair play How long does the commute take on your 125?
@@TwoWheelsTommy it’s a 50 mile commute each day and can take between 50 minutes to 1hr 30mins depending on traffic. Mondays and Fridays are the calmest days to ride I’ve noticed (excluding Sunday funday as it’s not a work day)
@loki2wheels Ah ok, 50 miles isn't so bad on decent roads. I'd enjoy that! It is all stop/start over here and it does my head in!
I really love those Royal Enfields 👌
They are great aren't they!
Yay new vid let’s go nice one 👌
Haha, bit different this one!
@@TwoWheelsTommy can’t complain 2 videos close together 🥳🥳👏also I’m getting closer to a new bike hopefully can have it sorted out in 2 weeks time 😛
@LewisScales - That's not too far away, nice. Gonna be some midweek vids to compliment the riding videos this week too. Been a busy boy!
@@TwoWheelsTommy ayyy can’t wait I just love how your videos are all natural just do whatever you need to do and make a video out of it some just set up what there videos are and it just don’t feel like how yours dose so keep up the good work
Thanks @LewisScales I appreciate it!
You know what, I think I prefer to go left as well! haha
Had my first MOT at the end of last year too, had some minors but that was it really, got a new front tyre to be on the safe side as it was near the limit. Not bad for a 24 year old Honda!
Ride safe dude! :)
Oh yeah that is pretty good going! Ride safe yourself 😀
Hey, great video. Love how unaware of Royal Enfield you were! My heart is set on one of those when I get my Direct access done later this year. My AJS wont see an MOT with me, but great to get a feel for what an MOT on a bike is like. Shouldn’t the valve have been replaced when you got the tyres changed?
Thanks, those Royal Enfields look great, the styling is brilliant. My only concern is even the bigger engines don't seem to kick out that much power. I'd have to have a test ride. The tyre was changed before I got it. I think it must have beeen done on the cheap. For me it was worth the cost of the MOT just for someone who knows what they are looking at to have a look over it. Money well spent.
It’s very nice that you’re getting some miles and practice under your belt but you should also concentrate on getting some basic maintenance done like servicing and wash, etc. I also wish you would sort that left mirror out, the rod is quite rusty and the angle of the mirror is off. Great content and hopefully you’ll also progress to the full licence.
Funny you should say that, now it has a fresh MOT I'm going to give it a service. I have also ordered some hammerite today to sort out the mirror stems. However I can see perfectly in the mirror so no issue there. More progress towards my licence soon, summer is quieter for me at work so I'll crack on then 👍
The Cagiva Mito 125cc was the sought-after learner bike when i was young
Ah really? So Cagiva was the brand of the bike then! Cheers
Just got mine mot and serviced all passed for £162 which wasn’t to bad for my yzrf125
Yes, that is not bad to keep it roadworthy for another year. Nice one!
Funny thing about bike mots ... if your clocks are wrecked by a theft attempt don't despair. You can whip them off altogether and it wont affect the mot. Anyway, the test sheet is avail online so you can easy do your own pre MoT inspection. You could've saved £38 as those jobs were so easy.
Edit: youre wondering that er5 is cheap? Maybe a coincidence but ive twice bought 2nd hand ones and both were frikin money pits.
(And apart from being unbelievably unreliable they're also unbelievably uncomfortable.)
Loving your vids.
Haha thanks for the info, I'll steer clear of the ER5's 🤣
Mines due her mot on the 27th…we passed the same time, bought the same bike, same month for our mot if your tax is due in No ember 😳…..I think mine will fail on the head bearings and front forks
Today I went out for a proper ride since my accident, I was worried I’d lost my bottle…., after 30 mins I was banking, splitting traffic, hitting top speed 🙌🏼. Yes it’s normal to favour one way when turning, depends on which is your dominant side. When I started drifting years ago I could slide right hand bends no worry, left hand ones I’d puppy out…took a long time to get there, I’m guessing it’ll be the same on the bike for me too
What are the chances! Hope you get a new MOT alright. Good to hear you got back on the horse, sounds like you loved it!
I'm the same as you only been riding 2 weeks but I also prefer turning left it feals Easyer for some reason also I found today that early Sunday morning rides are alot of fun practically no traffic plus I was also hitting all the green lights so that was a big bonus. Still 18 months to till my bike is due it's MOT but I hope it's as cheap as yours when it's time also have you any idea how much a full service would cost out of curiosity as I think I'll put it in for one at the beginning of summer ready for the days out on the bike
It's weird isn't it, you'd think there would be no difference! Sunday mornings sound great with no traffic. Green lights also a bonus when learning, I found having to stop really messes with your flow. It get's easier with time and practice though. Regarding the service, I have no idea to be honest, the engines are very basic so I'll be doing it myself 💪
I've got a 24 year old bandit mot in may hopefully it will be as cheap as yours 😅 It's always fun getting on a 24 year old at 41 🤣
Good luck! Haha sounds ideal 🤣
When I've been riding, I can't say I've never noticed if a left, or a right bend feels more natural, next time I go out I will see lol
HA, give it a go and report back 👍
@@TwoWheelsTommy will do lol
@johnchipperfield3367 Great!
@@TwoWheelsTommy nope, left & right feels the same lol.
mine was £265 + mot for a 23 year old triumph tiger oil change and service.
Would you say that was good value? I'm going to service mine soon.
I’m 50 and probably ride like a GERIATRIC!😂😂
You're alright Chris, You can't be a full on geriatric until you hit 60 🤣
One bug at 45 mph will teach you to have some eye protection. Any eye protection.
I agree, I get headaches with bright light so I always have either sunglasses or photochromic glasses on when riding.
How many miles have you managed to put on your bike, Tommy?
I've just checked the sales ad from when I bought the bike, and the mileage on the MOT and I have racked up a whopping 144 miles on it 🤣
I managed 340 before I had to park it for the winter. But watching you makes it easier to wait for spring.
@whollymindless Thanks! Nice, bet you can't wait to get it back out!
@@TwoWheelsTommy It is rougher than I thought it would be.
I bet it is.
luckily they don't check mirrors for rust ...... 🙂
Ha, I was waiting for it 🤣 Black Hammerite do the job?
@@TwoWheelsTommy anything Tommy, anything.....they are offending me 😜
@gasman6163 I'll see what I can do!
@@TwoWheelsTommy just joshing Tom.
@gasman6163 🤣 Hammerite now ordered. They do look awful. Much of the bike does to be honest if you look close. However, most of the rest of the bike is not constantly on camera! Fair to say it has not been looked after as well as it would have been had I owned it from new. It has served it's purpose for a couple of people before me!
£85.00
Good guess, seems like everyone thought it was going to be more expensive than it was.
No MOT for bikes in Ireland
It's alright for some! 😀
£40 - £50
Not a bad guess, pretty close!
£110
Way off, luckily!
Guess…£100
Not bad value at £38, right!
£250
Please bring your bike to me and I'll do the work for that 🤣
I was honestly expecting it to cost you near 150 - 200 mark.
I have service history papers that show they charged 240 for 5 hours labour.
The oil, coolant and spark plugs cost 70ish alone.
I have a royal Enfield dealer half hour away from me, beautiful bikes. Too vintage looking for myself, but they do have a charm to them.
I prefer more sport touring. You got sport bike looks/performance. But upright sitting position and comfort. Win win
@SimplySpooky24 Seems like I got a decent deal then. The more I look at Royal Enfields the more I like them.
