    Meant to be
    Immutable
    Impossible
    It's destiny
    Pure lunacy
    Incalculable
    Insufferable
    But for the last time

    You're all that I'd dreamed
Who wouldn't be the one you love
Who wouldn't stand inside your love
    Protected and the lover of
A pure soul and beautiful you
    Don't understand
    Don't feel me now
    I will breathe
    For the both of us
    Travel the world
    Traverse the skies
    Your home is here
    Within my heart
    And for the first time
I feel as though I am reborn
    In my mind
Recast as child and mystic sage
Who wouldn't be the one you love
Who wouldn't stand inside your love
    And for the first time
I'm telling you how much I need and bleed for
Your every move and waking sound
    In my time
I'll wrap my wire around your heart and your mind

To add to what so many others are starting to say here, I will tell you why this song is so great and why other love songs are not like it: conviction. It's describing a love that is fueled by conviction, resolve, and one that is divine in origin, in Billy's own words. How many love songs do you hear saying things like "For the first time, I'm telling you how much I need and bleed for your every move and waking sound. In my time, I'll wrap my wire around your heart and your mind. You're mine forever now." And those lyrics in the musical setting they're in communicate a bold declaration of commitment and fact, almost devoid of emotion or opinion. That's a type of love that's an unmoving object, and that's freaking powerful. That's in a completely different universe from the love that pop music describes. It makes me happy to see this song so celebrated in the comments, as usually I don't hear this song praised anywhere near enough by Pumpkins fans.

I got to open up for The Smashing Pumpkins and a play a show the same night after and I remember stepping on the Monitor at when i was 20 years old; this was like 6 years ago and I just remember having so much fucking appreciation and admiration that I got to have the honor of opening up for them. Changed my life, opened up alot of doors for me and to this day when someone tells me they dont like the pumpkins or have never heard of em; If i have the cash I will usually buy one of their records for them on their phone with my credit card and then I get the hey man thanks for fucking introducing me to these guys, they saved my life in more ways than one. When I was addicted to oxies for 2 years and then turned to smoking Black tar heroin I remember listening to Stumbeleine off of Mellon Collie and I litterally decided one night in my 15 passenger tour van that I'd fucking had enough. I put The smashing Pumpkins on loop, curled up in the fetal position with my headphones and I fucking ended my addiction with with what I call The Gatorade, advil, Benadryl, weed and smashing pumpkins rehab. l I felt like he was fucking right there telling me hey man, its time to WAKE THE FUCK UP and MOVE ONE TO BIGGER AND BETTER THINGS and get yourself out of this hole you've been digging for yourself before its too fucking late, craziest hardest 2 weeks of my life but Billy pulled me through it. I'm firmly convinced. Been clean for 4 years now, no relapses, and living life the way it was meant to be.

diornotwar123 No...I don't think that was it. Music of this type was incredibly popular in the late nineties, early 2000's...I'd say maybe people just found bands they liked more. Most likely its because CD writers and MP3's became a thing. People also don't seem to remember there was no CZcams, things like that..MTV, radio stations, would've probably been the only advertising you'd get...besides word of mouth or seeing the album on the shelf.

I agree. They had tons of great songs before Machina, but something about it made it stand apart from the rest, something I felt made it their best album. The lyrics of every songs were some of their best. With the return of Jimmy Chamberlin, he played his ass off and had some of the best drums of any of their albums. It just came out at the wrong damned time. The shift from Grunge and Alternative to Pop hurt. The 90s, to me, was the last great music era and this album was the icing on a decade long cake.

    • @MrAmc1291
      @MrAmc1291 Před 6 lety +100

Machina was originally going to be a double album but their record label refused to release it due to the sales of Adore. So they had to split the record in two and due to the dismal sales of Machina, the label refused to release Machina II, hence why Billy released it for free over the internet.

Everyone commenting looks so damn young. This songs from when I was in high school. Makes me feel a sad nostlagic...and pretty damn old, lol. They don't even make videos like they used to. Everything was weird and beautiful. Now it's all cars and partying, glowsticks...different type of shit. Alternative was more like pop at the time...Everyone was on some Metallica kick..I don't even know what half this stuff is anymore. At least technology let's everyone young and old enjoy things from the past. Songs still good all these years later.

I was a new fan when this came out, in high school, too. This song manages to bring back nostalgia and be relevant today, too. I'm glad new fans are finding it. :)

You should be glad that some of today's youth still listens to good music. Being 17, maybe 15 kids in my entire school know this band.

I feel the same way when I watch Smashing Pumpkins. They were my high school experience (also I feel the same way about Buffy the Vampire Slayer).
I miss when videos were interesting to watch.
      God, I feel old now.

This song, in my opinion, is THE standout on this record and one of their very best. Easily in my Top 5 Pumpkins songs. That's right, Top 5.

I love this song. The Smashing Pumpkins have such an incredible sound I feel lucky to have grown up listening to them.
Hope songs like this one are never forgotten. Wish more songs like this one were written.
