Simple fix: stop the Hercules fleet being sold off. Put the Trench one Typhoons being reduced to spares. Get the Warriors back in service and the older challengers (the Russians have taken many older tanks out of reserve and in the end of the day any tank is better than no tank. Stop spending huge amounts of money on two carriers neither of which we can man or put on aircraft that can fly off it. Totally revamp the recruitment service. And get Industry to churn out the ammo and kit we have sent to Ukraine. Stop buying new shiny and very expensive kit until we get some "Mass" back and and least be able to field an Armoured Brigade. Cull the MoD.

Prices are going up maybe buying now is better than paying more later as goods continue to rise in price? What happens to buying power if there’s a world conflict when no one wants to sell anything because they need what they have/produce, surely we need a real capability to produce ammunition and weapon systems both simple and the more high end technologies ourselves inside the UK and having large stockpiles of the raw materials required and the machinery it takes to make production lines. Producing a much larger drones industry might be something we can both use and sell to other countries which could offset the cost and this approach could be considered in other areas of procurement if successful. There seems to be so much needed, but considering how we go about buying and building what we need, is as important as getting the equipment needed, times are changing maybe traditional methods of purchasing are the way to go or maybe new methods are needed or a mixture? But it seem obvious a larger amount is needed for the UK forces now if we want a tier 1 capable force not half baked promises of 2.5% when it’s possible to do so, wars don’t wait until a country is financially ready, and protecting the UK is perhaps the most fundamental requirement of any government elected! Personally as a UK citizen I don’t mind paying for an armed force I can be proud of, even if that meant a separate tax that I knew was only for def £5/month from every tax payer plus what they get now, or an amount similar, surely this would make a difference? Even if unpopular if it were explained properly the public may not like it but would understand and prefer to be safe, specially if there were a world conflict and at the least as a much stronger deterrent force than we offer currently!

He is not in the reserve, his military rank was corporal (43 years ago) and he has never served afterwards, so you can confidently say, he is bascicly a blank sheet regarding service.

This country is in a similar situation it was in the 1920's and 30's and even when World War 2 was foreshadowed the government of the day still responded with apathy and indifference so, how can anyone believe that the situation will be any different.
Tony Blair's Labour government kept defence spending to a minimum with a following 14 years of Conservative spending cuts across the board which involved armed forces redundancies in the mid - late 90's, I should know I was made redundant in 1994!
There have however been pay rises in the public sector and civil service throughout these periods and where MP's were given an 11% pay rise as apposed to the mere 2 - 3% the public received, does anyone remember this? and yet increases in public spending were negligible! When war does come, (ww3) and it is, this country will not be able to meet it's obligations not only to NATO but also in defence of the homeland, manpower is at an all time low comparable with that of the 1920 -30's period and equipment, which has improved, is not sufficient enough in quantity or supply, it has always been the case that any government in office has always tended to the lowest bidder when procuring equipment for the military, which on occasions has affected quality, subsequent performance and longevity, unlike the US who have no issues in spending on and funding their military!
With typical British understatement it will be that as World War 3 fully evolves the 'Government', as it did in 1940 after the evacuation (retreat) at Dunkirk, will go into panic mode and funding will suddenly appear in relative quantities, but beware! taxes will significantly rise and rationing will definitely occur on a par with WW2, however due to the differences in standards of living between that period and now with the disposable mentality of today, instead of make do and mend of yesteryear, many will not be able to adjust and adapt so the Black Market will become a massive industry even larger than in ww2 when only the wealthy and rich could actually afford it!

We've got over 49 million tax paying people in this country and the conservatives have been in power for well over a decade, so where's all the income tax, national insurance, council tax, vat and duty taxes gone? We've got a pathetically tiny armed forces where all British made weapons, from our assault rifles, tanks, right through to our fighting ships are a large percentage of the time, not even fit for purpose. Also,if you're a young, fit, and potentially a future British fighting man, there's another potential problem. Back in the days when the British military were seen as the best fighting machine on the planet,tv recruitment commercials portrayed a professional, well trained force, not to be messed with. These days, we're portrayed as a kind, soft, caring military, where a large proportion of our soldiers are wearing lip gloss. You figure it out!
