Informative video as always Alex. I have to ask, and I'm sure you have had such before (and this question was taken actually from a video you uploaded a while ago) , so In simple terms you would best advise someone to get to Vietnam after Tet as most schools in January are winding down to close ?
@@TerryFreak389 Yes, most hiring slows down before and after the 2-3 week holiday. Although some schools will be hiring before Tet for you to start after the holiday, which would mean you could potentially secure employment before and starting teaching after Tet with the school.
@@ninja.teacher Thank you.
Teaching in class is easy. Never failed a demo class. On the other hand teaching online, that takes a whole different mindset, and probably something i could improve on.
Good points about the benefits of live training and feedback.
Thank you Alex for an informative CZcams video! As I progress through the early parts of your online course, I find it informative and instructive. I'm looking forward to talking to your staff about practicing Teaching skills prior to applying for a teaching job in Vietnam in 2022.
Sounds good Lawrence!
Great advice! I've gone through several "sample lessons" in order to receive job offers during my career, some through skype, but mostly in person. It's usually best to keep up to date as to what employers are generally currently looking for before demonstrating for a potential employer in a given region, or market, as these can evolve and change from year-to-year, or even month-to-month during periods of flux!.
Good tips Jean!
Hi Alex, I'll definitely look into that content you linked. Any updates on travel restrictions? I watch your videos and wonder how all those people entered Vietnam?
No updates yet for borders opening for new teachers. People were already here before covid.
Thanks Alex. Just a thought for new teachers that are stuck in the States but are looking to get teaching experience. Years ago I went to a local adult school and asked one of the ESL teachers if I could help out. She immediately put me to work with a group of advanced learners. I had no credential and hadn't even finished college. I was just a class aid and the school was fine with it. The structure was rough but at least I learned I could stand up in front of a class and deliver content. About a year later I did my first stint teaching in South Korea. Been a teacher of one discipline or another ever since. Currently want to brush up on my ESL chops as it's different from all other types of teaching I've done. It's been a few years to say the least! Good luck everyone!
It tends to be the lower end of schools in terms of pay and quality that want a demo lesson. Typically the top jobs can work out if you are quality from the interview or just creating a lesson plan.
Thanks Alex! Can you update me on the entry status into Vietnam? I am certified but am interested in your upgrade classes.
No news yet but we’ll post about it. Feel free to get in touch if you haven’t yet.
@@ninja.teacher thanks!
If possible, I would definitely take the in-class course to build confidence. I'm not a fan of recording myself and feel awkward doing so. Things have not panned out the way I've wanted them to so far, but perhaps one day they will so I can travel and take the course. I hope to at least travel to South Korea and other surrounding countries.
It can be awkward for sure, but it's important to practice and get feedback on it. 🙂
What is different to you comparing teaching ESL in Korea vs. Vietnam? Thanks
The actual teaching is quite similar in my experience.
What is the market like for teaching English to adults?
A lot smaller market than teaching young learners but there are opportunities to teach adults.
@@ninja.teacher I have seen in some of your videos that people commented that they were surprised that they liked teaching children as they had previously surmised that they probably would not like it. I suspect that teaching 13 years old and up would not be an issue for me. Yesterday, Japan announced that they would open to foreigners in April 2021....maybe Vietnam is thinking along similar timelines.
@@armaugh lots of teaching adult opportunities or maybe its jusy me. I rotate 3 month spring fall school semester middle high schools. Then summer winter ietsl adults, and universities hire, but they have little money. Taught NhaTrang university
Is CELTA acceptable?
CELTA is a good course, yes.
I'm in Korea and have three years of experience. my ex boss has stolen 4+ million won from me and has told every recruiter that I was a terrible teacher and the students hate me. probably need to leave the country to get a job now
Sorry to hear that. There are lots of different recruiters out there and I'm sure he hasn't told all of them.
Actually you don't. You do need to file report him though. Korea has a program for that.
Even if he wont give a letter of release you can just go to jeju and back now.
@@sagepirotess6312 no i finished the contract, but every time a recruiter calls for a reference she tells them crazy made up stories
@@RasputinReview dont worry about a reference in korea. Bif you really want one have them talk to a korean coteacher.
Korea itself will hire you, and if your in the country you can donin face meeting.
Spent many years in korea, few bad companies, many good.
File a claim against his company. Inhad one company not pay 1 month, i filed, got it, as he could get blacklisted on any mew work visa or business renewal license.
I wish you didn't require a university degree
You can't even get there now can you?
I doubt, unless you are already a teacher and returning.
Borders are not yet open yes.
@@ninja.teacher is there any idea when they will be opened?
No news yet. Will post updates.
@@ninja.teacher thanks bro👍🏻

Haha the only ability required to get an English teaching job in Vietnam is availability...and white skin.
