  • Quartz Quadrant Past from Sonic CD, restored to the best quality possible using the original samples and instrumentation.
Once again, you can listen to this on SoundCloud, alongside other restorations: / quartz-quadrant-past-1
Many mistakes were made with the original. For one, the version uploaded to SoundCloud was an outdated version with the wrong snare and SLIGHTLY different mixing. You can hear this by comparing the V2 CZcams upload with the outdated SoundCloud version.
Secondly, the version on CZcams, while being the updated version, still had some imperfections and issues. The snare was wrong AGAIN, alongside some other little things. So here's the ABSOLUTE FINAL VERSION of this song! A Game-Accurate version will be/is available on my channel.

hey can you tell me a bit about the making of this restoration?
do you have the original hardware??

Splode has made far too many restorations to have the hardware for all of them. I would bet abandonware sites are the primary target of research.

Sure! For starters, the whole project was made using FL Studio 21. Besides most of the drum elements, everything was made using VSTs and not the physical hardware (although this compromises a bit on authenticity and accuracy, it's close enough). Specifically, I used the Roland JD-800 VST for the Mother Afrika and Harlequin patches, the Roland Concerto VST (Anthology 1990 expansion pack) for the D-Piano patch, and the Korg M1 VST for the kick (not officially confirmed but the closest match that I could find to the original sample).
All other instruments were sourced from sample packs or recordings by different people. The TR-909 snare is from X-Static Goldmine, the cowbell and Roland R8 tambourine are from E-Mu Procussion, the Underwater patch from the Korg 01/W is from a sample pack (originally found on the VGM & Other Instrument Sources Discord server if I recall correctly, though I can't seem find the source anymore), the cabasa sample is an improved version of an in-game sample, and the Waldorf bass is a recorded piece also from the VGM & Other Instrument Sources server.
The composition itself was created using a pre-existing project file I had made a few months back, all done by ear so there may be some errors. As for the mixing/mastering process, it's relatively straightforward and not overly complex since I'm a noob when it comes to mixing and mastering. I mainly used Parametric EQ, Reverb, Compression, and chorus when necessary. Ozone 10 was also applied for some more 'oomph', and for limiting and additional compression.
I'm pretty sure that's it? I might've missed some things but that's basically the full rundown. I'm not a complete expert when it comes to things like these and I really only have a basic understanding, but hopefully my explanation made sense (they usually don't.)
(i also apologize for blabbing lmao)
