This is without a doubt the most interesting and cohesive explanation I've yet heard about Coppola's magnum opus. Kudos are definitely in order. Yet as much as I dearly want his labor of love to be a hit, according to your notes it's polarizing qualities may prevent this from ever happening. As in all films, there are often two conflicting issues, art (the story) and commerce (the profits), and often times "never the twain shall meet." Still, as with millions of other Coppola fans who wait with breathless anticipation, I hope for the best.

    • @fantasyfilmball

I'd say Costumes and Production Design are both more likely than Cinematography. If it gets in anywhere, the design elements seem likely based on the scale of what they built for the movie.
To be fair though, they can definitely go for more than one sci-fi, as shown in 2022 (EEAAO and Avatar + Top Gun, which isn't sci-fi but is a big blockbuster action movie), or 2015 (The Martian and Mad Max). Doesn't happen often, but it can happen.

What you are not aware of in terms of your analysis of this script...and the pedophile cancel culture theme...is that director/writer/producer Victor Salva, a longtime collaborator of Coppola's (see "Jeepers Creepers", it's sequels, and another film that years prior led to Salva's downfall) is a convicted pedophile...but Coppola continued working with him anyway for decades...and made Salva a multimillionaire therein. The question is why? Coppola has not answered said question.
Salva also made a pedophile accepting film.
What is Coppola trying to say here with his new film...and why is Coppola so close to Salva? Certainly there are other filmmakers that he could have worked with once Salva got exposed as a pedophile during a film that Salva and Coppola were filming.

I didn't know it was sexist to call women "brilliant" and also desired, beautiful and sexy. Perhaps if you ONLY characterized women as desired, beautiful, and sexy, but he clearly didn't. Also: Even simply characterizing women in a script as desired, beautiful and sexy is not sexist if it's done in a context where their male counterparts are, in a corresponding sexist way, reduced to success objects (as opposed to sex objects) where their human value is reduced to their mate value as corresponding to their socio-economic status. That would be balanced (in)equality, as opposed to sexism against women.

But in this case, Francis is using his own money, so doesn't have to answer to anyone. He could cast, and hopefully did, cast actors because they were genuinely perfect for the roles. Nobody else will do. Reputations and rumours all go out the window if someone is absolutely right. Even a git like Shia LeBeouf.

Art revolving around "anti-cancel-culture" is the same as "anti anti- cancel culture", it depends of the context and how it's executed. When unfunny hacks like Bill Maher or Jerry Seinfeld do bits on the subject - it's cringe inducing, however when Dave Chappell does it - despite being pretty damn controversial, (to say the least), it's tolerable due to the fact that it's usually pretty hilarious most of the time. Which is also the case when it comes to chud-dunking or even possibly worse. By worse i mean, that there are fewer instances of it that aren't pretensions and cringe-worthy. That's due to the fact that it's been done to death, but more importantly it also to me feels like low-hanging fruit. There is one area of anti-cancel culture that is extremely relevant currently, the being the crackdown on Palestinian-solidarity protestors including the doxing of students and the black-list circulating among corporate elites in fields like banking and law-offices seeking to prevent the hiring of students who've been identified as having participated in these protests on Ivy-League college campuses post October 7th. Pro-Palestine activists have been the original victims of cancel culture, dating back before the concept had even came into usage in common parlance, (side note: aint it funny how hacks like the formentioned Maher and Seinfeld not only have nothing to say about those people being "canceled," they are the ones who are in fact actually advocating for them to be canceled). So art revolving around that would be timely and sorely needed. Anyways, sorry for the rant, like i said - it all depends on the context and the execution. So based on the specific events you discussed that are potentially gunna be in this film that are meant to serve as commentary on cancel-culture... yeah.... I'm not sure how well that's gunna land lol

Ugh why is Shia Labeouf in this? Why can't we get new actors or even middle of the road actors? I don't even fully care about his shit I just want some new faces. Also I do care it's just not why I was initially pissed.

I watched a lot of unheard of movies this past year to see if there were some actors you could say will be big in a few years. In the end I had to admit I just watch a lot of B movies.

This movie should never had been made! It’s an abomination! You’ll chuckle at the stupidity! Zero subtext! All on the nose! It’s like a bad AI screenplay!
