Thanks for the great video. Very helpful. I also have something to add that might help: I performed the fix twice and my footage was still tinted green. However after recording some minutes of new footage, it disappeared all of a sudden. So, if the problem persists with anyone's camera, you might have to run through some tape until it works.
your tutorials are clearly the best we can find online anywhere! Please do video for the viewfinder ribbon!? is so tricky.
+//Linear “LinearTapes” Tapes// just finished the clip for the viewfinder cable if you still need it
the best camera ever! good luck on the channel!
thanks, i will use this video when i need to..
Hidden gem of a resource for the future of mankind!
Thanks for this video! Maybe an idea would be to make a video of how to strip down the VX(and build up again) for painting?
might need to try this tomorrow, my vx got a good amount of sand inside of it on vacation and now it won't film :| also sometimes the tape deck doesnt open. hopefully i can go film tomorrow after doing this
thanks for the video!!!
very helpful. thank you
can you do one on mic sag. i know there is another person who did it on youtube, but that way looks like it'd make the rubber assy break easier.
thanks for the video! one question: why are you replacing the screws? can they cause dirt and dust somehow? forgive my ignorance
Thank you for posting this video it was a great walk through with easy to follow camera work. But at the moment I am having an issue with the tape deck mechanism. It beeps and signals to eject tape but its stuck in the deck. I have a spare vx for parts that I've been using but can't seem to get it right. If you could help in anyway that would be much appreciated.
did you ever fix it? had the same problem for over a year now i’m clueless
Hey man, i have done this cleaning fix for 2 times now but my vx still shows a little cross like screw logo pop up in the viewfinder....i Googled what it was and it meant that the heads are dirty. I used a headcleaning tape and done this method of cleaning the video heads....still when i watch the footage back on capture camera, and on the vx itself it shows green stripes across the image:/ i dont knie how i can fix this problem. It would be great if you could help me out!
Ok thank you
every time i try to capture footage filmed on my vx theres hella timecode skips >:/ do you think doing this could fix that?
Post Script: it worked :)
Can you please help? I've done this exactly what you showed in this video, and if i play back my footy on the VX it is still glitchy, no green stuff but it has these squares all over and like 1-2 seconds converge with each other like you know, this classic glitchy stuff, i dont know what to do. By the way does this also affect the recording? Or the record on the tape is all good? I dont have a firewire yet and a capture camera so i don't know this yet:) Thanks for the reply. Cheers
Great Vid! Two questions: Is this the same general process for the VX2000? And, I'm having problems with a lot of artifacts showing up on my recordings, will this fix that?
Thanks dude, sadly i have not actually worked on the 2000 but the tape deck is very similar so i imagine it will work just fine. And if you have artifacts it can either mean dirty or heads or a cracked motherboard which is a lot more serious. I hope its just a little dirt
hello, my vx 1000 has a problem and I regard the heads!
It does all the work correctly, but does not leave the movies in the mini dv!
I filmed 30 minutes, but when I poured the tape was completely black! could you give me some advice? thank you
very helpful~
I'm having an issue with my vx1000 . it turns on for about 10 seconds and then it turns off after hearing a click sound . it also doesn't let me open my cassette deck to take my tape out . wondering if you knew exactly what kind of problem it may be? thanks !
A buzzing noise comes from my tape deck when I have a tape in my vx1000. I think its the drum bearings but im not sure. Will this cleaning help fix my problem?
+Richard Mudd
in this video you dont actually touch the drum, by the sounds of it you have a bigger problem! you can try cleaning it wont do any more damage thats for sure but i doubt it will cure your problem!
what rubbing alcohol percentage works best? great video btw
stronger will just give a more intensive clean you wont cause any damage as long as your not soaking parts in the stuff!
Hello, so my vx says it’s recording and when I play the tape back there’s nothing recorded. This is a new issue that I’ve never had in the 8 years I’ve had it, though it’s been in storage for the past 4. Do you think this will fix it?
It wont do any harm bro, could be a build up of dust so this will hopefully get it up and running again, good luck!
Will this fix glitches like my footage has those little freeze frames where pixels will just come out
It will not make it worse thats for sure! if you still have the glitching problems it maybe a problem with the main board which is a real pain in the arse! but try the clean it could be the solution!
Your videos are amazing! Is there a way to clean haze out of the vx stock lens? I have a few but one has a lot of stuff in between the elements
SALT BOYS it is possible to take apart the lense for cleaning but it involves a lot of screws, and a bit to complexed to make a video for, well a video less than 30mins long anyway
Translate Productions I would imagine. Do you have to take the whole lens/sensor piece off to get to the elements?
SALT BOYS yea you do dude, nearly 60-70% of the camera needs to be dismantled it's a mission but do able
Thanks for the responds dude! Can you put Japanese parts in english cameras ? and PAL in NTSC parts in cameras ?
SALT BOYS I have this issue aswell a vid would be super helpful Translate Productions
i tried to use nail polish remover and it didn't work, in the UK we have surgical spirit which is apparently the same as rubbing alcohol, does anyone know if this would work?
You can get it online for sure higher percentage of isopropyl alcohol the better 70% minimum. DO NOT USE nail polish remover, if it has acetone in it you may have already damaged the heads!!
I visibly see the head still has smudges on it but it simply wont come off. Also how to you keep little tiny specs of dust or particles in the air off the head? Having a rough time here, i just got this vx21 😭
The dust will come off best with the tape deck cleaner, which is usually a blue mini dv tape. Why did you do the clean in the first place? Glitches or bad footage?
Cheers dude going to re edit the last one
Is this pretty spot on for the VX2000? I have the resources if it's not. Also, chamois swabs are a better option, right?
i have new used or fixed a 2000 so i can comment but i should imagine it varies too much. and yeah they are as less chance of leaving lint left over!
Translate Productions hey can you help me out I just bought a vx2000 recently like 3 - 4 days ago used it didn't come with a mini dv tape the dude I bought it from had it listed in excellent working condition everything is working fine on the camcorder except the tape deck I bought new tapes I keep getting a error code & it eats up my tape I'm kinda bummed out because I paid a lot of money for it and a fisheye lens & it's not even able to recognize a brand new mini dv tape so I cant record nothing any advice would be helpful
Its a hard one dude without actually taking the camera apart and having a look! does it close with the tape inside then the error appear? and how do you mean eats up the tape?
Thanks. What do you suggest I do to fix it
+Richard Mudd
without actually having the camera infront of me its hard to know, and if you say the noise is coming from the drum you may need to replace it!
anyone know a fix on how to close your tape door? mine just stays open
Can you still push it closed but it just wont lock in? Or is it stuck open?
bonjour jai un probleme dafichage blus sur mon ecran lcd interne pour filmer avec mon sony vx 1000
The LCD or viewfiner screen?
Could I do this same thing with a vx2000?
Never tried it so couldn't say bro. I only ever worked with 1000
Hi, my vx1000 can’t write to tapes properly would this fix the issue?! Please help!! 😝
Jai Wright what’s exactly the problem? Is it not writing at all or is it glitchy?
hey I know that this isnt related, but my vx only turns on sometimes, and I dont know how to fix it! do you have any ideas?
[e-wonDER] can you give me a little more info? Anything on the display when it does come on, any icons?
Just got a vx1 and when i look through the viewfinder its like all pixelated and a stripe though the middle, do you know what i can do to fix it? Cheers
+Dakota Payne send me a picture of how the image is looking dude
+Translate Productions i seemed to fix it but if it comes back i will send you a picture :)
Hi +Translate Productions,
Is this actually a credible means of cleaning vx1000 heads, and where did you learn this?
I've read a few posts on the skateperception forums saying that using a q-tip/cotton buds will rip the heads right out of a vx1000, and do more harm than good.
I'm comfortable with taking the vx1000 apart, but I'm incredibly nervous about using cotton buds or the wrong chemicals.
Hope you can give some insight,
Thanks in advance!
+Timothy Southcott Yes it is i have the intensive manual from sony service and repair all about the vx1000 and i have been doing this for a while!
And the posts you have read are correct but in this video we are cleaning 1 pinch roller and the rotary drum, you dont actually touch the heads!
Would this be the same/similar for a vx2100
I have never tried with the vx2100, only ever worked on the 1000 but the set up is very similar!
I followed your instructions very carefully and now vcr mode doesn’t work at all - it just doesn’t turn on. The camera still works in camera mode. Any suggestions on what might have caused this?
prolly didnt plug the ribbon cables in
cool
I did this and my footage is still coming out glitchy. What should I do?
you may have a different problem, usually if after the head clean you still have glitches it maybe to do with you main board which is a lot bigger problem!
Is it normal to have some minor glitches in the footage after doing this?
If done properly you should have no glitches maybe you used to much alcohol. Any only use this method if you are experiencing problems. If not already glitching then no need to clean
would doing this fix the kinda loud humming/buzzing noise coming from the tape deck ?
is the buzzing coming on the tapes or buzzing when recording?
it buzzes/hums never happened when I first got my vx I fear it'll get louder I'm guessing its the heads cause when I take the tape out its silent
did that fix it, I have that problem currently
hey i have a problem with my vx and unfortunately zero experience with camera repair.the camera fell down today and the tape wont eject neither close or open. ever experienced this problem. i really dont know what to do.i already unscrewed and removed the connector but im really clueless now
It's so hard to know without actually looking at it, best bet would be send it to a pro to fix. I imagine if you have dropped it you will have broken something on the mechanism. Follow this video and make sure everything looks on place, ribbon cables etc. If you dont notice anything I would send it to someone.
@@mattfirmin11 thanks a lot for the fast reply!!!I will definitely try to find a professional now.hopefully there is still someone in my city (vienna, austria) who fixes these cameras
I have a vx2000 and a pd150. Both of these cams do the same thing. I record video to a tape. When i play back the footage, the video will randomly go from choppy/pixelated for a second or two to fine for a second or two and repeat. . When I open the door/flap of the mini dv tape you can see that the camcorder has put horizontal creasing on the tape. Any ideas or suggestions.
I think ill make a video today showing exactly what is going on.
I have never seen creasing on the tape before but without actually looking at the camera sounds like you need some major repairs that a head clean will not fix sadly.
@@mattfirmin11 thanks for the reply. I think ill make a short video and that way you and others can see what is going on.
@@mattfirmin11 Here's a video of what I was talking about: czcams.com/video/QuSuSo4AWIs/video.html
@@AMJSKATESHOP where are you based? Looks like you made need more than just a head clean from the videos. I would recommend sending it to someone to take a proper look and try to fix it!
@@mattfirmin11 I'm in the states. I actually want to try to work on it myself if I can find someone that thinks they know what the problem is or have experienced it. Unless I need to replace the entire tape mechanism that might be a little beyond my skill at the moment.
Hey dude was wondering would I do this to my vx if it beeps and stays eject tape???
i dont think this will solve the problem but it will not do any harm to the camera. have you taken the camera apart before? or did the tape ejecting just randomly start?
Translate Productions I bought it like that but I fixed it thanks so much but I was wondering my video looks really grainy should I try this?
how grainy does it look? are you sure its not the settings first before you take the camera apart again!
how did you solve the tape eject problem?
i also have the tape eject problem, i have to eject it and put it back in it so it's detected, like a wrong electric contact in the camera, it also started to be cold out there, maybe something going on with the humidity or the cold?
is this the westworld theme song
I did this and I still get digital noise on my footage.
Crk.
=,(
I have done it a couple time and theres no luck.
+ChristoferKraft send me a little clip of the noise if you can!
+ChristoferKraft translate.skateboards@gmail.com
+ChristoferKraft did you email the video dude?
Im having the Problem that my Media Player isnt responding, anyone has a clue what that would be or how to fix it? the Play Mode directly from filming where you have to hold down your finger is working.
More than likely a ribbon cable they brake all the time on these cameras! Your talking about the buttons above the tape deck or on top of the camera?
@@mattfirmin11 talking about the ones on the tape deck. the ones on top work (where i have to press down with my fingers to keep it rolling)
@@palitox5770 ok so thats the ribbon cable these ones brake all the time! Best advice is to leave it. You should avoid using these buttons as they will ware the tape deck down faster. If you want to watch back use the buttons on the top and then to capture onto computer get a capture cam or a tape deck recorder!
@@palitox5770 you will struggle to find a replacement cable and even when you do every time you open and close the tape deck it's slowly braking the cable. So will only be a matter of time untill it breaks again. Its a major design fault with these cameras
Would this process work for a vx2100?
never tried it on a vx2100 so i have no idea but the tape deck should funnction tje same i cant imagine it will do any harm
+Translate Productions Thank you
will aceton work for cleaning?
nooooooo way to strong stick to isopropyl alcoholl!
yep!
where can I buy replacement m2 screws for my vx1000
Any hard ware store just take the cam and show them they should help you out
ok thanks
check ebay or a local electronic store but im talking old school that repairs cameras and so on.
Yeah I only want them so I can replace the old/rusty screws on my camera before they become really hard to remove
My Sony VX1000E has just developed a problem. When I record it is not recording the picture, instead it is recording a black screen, like video black.
When I look through the viewfinder before recording all is fine, I see the image, but after I have finished recording and then use the edit search buttons to see the recording there is nothing just a black screen, all I can see is the play symbol and the tape counter display etc, but no picture.
Anybody ever encountered this problem before or got any advice.
Really worrying me
have you tried cleaning the heads already? By the sounds of it you may have a main board fracture which is bad news. because normally even if the heads are really dirty you will still pick up something! try the head clean and if that wont work you may need to send it off for repair!
I disassembled the vx, the problem is one of the main tabs! where can I find individual spare parts? could you help me?
what do you mean by tabs?
cards that give power to the mechanical
Tomorrow I'll tell you the exact name! vx is now in service
thats it
hey dude .. what about the vx2000 ... the same spots to clean ???
My vx2000 has issues with the sound ...
tomthemenmy1 I have only ever fixed the 1000's dude but if the tape deck is the same it makes sense that the cleaning would be the same! whats the problem with the sound?
ah ok ..thx but i don't know if it's the same deck. .. the problem is that the sound interrupted, the sound is there and gone sorry my english is not so good .. i can't realy describe it..... and on the right on the LCD there are sometimes pixels
sorry dude itshard to tell the route of a problem without looking at the camera i would recommend trying to find someone local who can fix it up for you, where abouts do you live?
now everything runs perfekt ;) i found a guy how fix all my problems ;)
HansaKrizz hey man, i have the same problem, what was the solution?
