    Just a correction. AVX512 has been removed from 12th-gen Intel cpu's, so your best bet is the 11-gen series (Rocket Lake) instead. AMD Zen 4 also has its own implementation of AVX512.

    And in case you are wondering, no. The Steamdeck processor does not support AVX-512 either. AMD introduced it with Zen 4. Steamdeck's Ryzen 3 4300U is a Zen 3. It does however support AVX2, which is the 256 bit extension to AVX. Pretty much all compilers support it, but I don't know how much of that instruction set can be used by them to improve performance, when compiling code designed for the 512 bit extension.

    Yo, I'm still rocking a 4790K btw, and the only reason I changed my old C2Q 9550 for this one, was just to play PCSX2. On that front it's amazing! And even to this day it has served me well, no complaints, BUT! My old C2Q felt pretty much the same as this i7 when doing some online browsing and youtube watching. It's on video games and source codes compilation where I notice a big difference.
    Right now, my goal is to be able to play RPCS3 4k@120, so I'll wait for the Ryzen 9 9950X3D (yeah, I need them cores for some hardcore linux kernel compilation).
    Btw, on my current CPU, RPCS3 ran quite good, not perfect but 1080p@30 was doable with most games, I even finished MGS4 at 2K@30, and it ran with a more stable performance than on original hardware. Gran Turismo 5 was more challenging, with a full grid this CPU struggle.
    But you are right, a CPU with AVX512 is a requirement for decent RPCS3 utilization. Just like SEE4.1 is a requirement for PCSX2. Can you use something else instead of those extension? Yes, ofc, but the performance won't be the best possible.
    Nice video mate!
    Cheers!

    Well 4 cores 8 threads as way back as sandy bridge i.e i7 2600k can play a good amount of 3rd party (Playable) titles it's only first party titles or games that uses the PS3 architecture more effectively i.e Gran Turisimo 5,6 , Killzone 2,3 TLOU & stuff like GTA 5 & Infamous these really need as much cores & AVX 512 to get playable framerate. The PS3 architecture was hard to work with for game developers so some of them used easier ways to utilize the ps3 in turn they lost a lot of performance & or fidelity whilst others leaned into the architecture that brought us Impressive visuals and performance at the time. That is somewhat correlated to how easy or hard it is to emulate said games (Not Always though). That is probably the reason some games never came to newer gen consoles or PC as well , cause a lot of work needs to be done to port it over if devs leaned into PS3 SPU's.

    • @Greeem
      @Greeem Před 2 měsíci

      @@n-tertainmentx-tended4760 You cannot "optimize" away insufficient performance. *Everything* meaningful in PS3 emulation is CPU-bound. RPCS3 running on low-end computers is a pipe dream that will only come true when "low-end" is equivalent to current day high-end. The sad reality is Sony created a beast in the PS3, the CELL CPU. Not to mention on the real hardware the game is running directly on the console, whereas in emulation its in some program that creates an environment that the game expects to be in and mimics a real PS3 so that the games can run in this fake "PS3 container" (can't think of a better term). Doing all of this, instead of just running the game itself, adds a very significant amount of overhead that the real hardware doesn't have.
      I would like to mention that I'm not telling you this out of any dislike, rage or malice; I simply feel like it's incorrect to say that the emulator isn't optimized for low-end devices when that's just not really a thing that can be done, and wanted to share why if you aren't already knowledgeable. If you are then I wasted my time, and sorry for wasting yours lol

    avx512 is not necessary. it can give a solid improvement in efficiency of upto 30% in some games but mainly it's there for those looking to upscale or do 60fps mods. Around the time this video was released there were massive performance increases of practically double the frames due to overhauling the SPU code as well.

    technicality's aside its the simple fact the ps3 arcytecthure with its notisously hard coding . in a field were emualtion even if much stronger hardware can take years to develope . just look at were psx and dolphin are at and theyr not 100 percent their yet (but very close in my op) and are super solid on high end laptops with gtx1050 / 1060 equiviletns at 4k right now hom many years since they started deving on modern 2020 hardware .And these guys have no source code , sony employs devs or even time/ budget . they doing as side hustle. So give it at least 20 years before i even so much recomend rpsx3 to peopl to emulate semi reliabily for most when 8 core cpus become norm. because even with my core high i7 cpu pcs ddr3 and ddr4 gen ones i can bealry run ps2 games reralses on ps3 on rpcs3.
