Percolators are one of the most practical devices for brewing coffee in large amounts. Thanks for sharing.

My god does this make me some great morning coffee. And it's the shit when you're camping 🙏
My normal coffee pot is nothing to me now.

As someone who grew up with percolators, first with my parents and later on shift with the military, I can vouch for them making good coffee when fresh brewed. However the coffee got a little flat(?) as time went on. Especially. on shift with 7 hrs in on one of those big urns 😂.
An interesting fact you might not be aware of, the big urns were originally designed to take a 1lb bag of ground coffee. Don’t know what they take now, plus most people just get a “box” of coffee from Tim’s.
We had many “creative” types in the military who tried to “improve” the coffees longevity and taste by using such things as added salt or raw egg, or lemon or other concoctions … but after 7-8 hours it was always “chewy” 😳… Needless to say the next shift on always made a fresh batch to start their day lol.

Your comment about innovative military personals reminded me of an old episode of “In the Heat of the Night” with Carol O’Connor.
Chief Gillespie had just poured himself a cup of coffee from the office pot.
He asked Parker if he’d made the coffee, and he cheerfully affirmed he had.
Chief said “When we was in ‘Nam, we used to soak socks full of coffee in hot water in our helmets to make coffee.”
      “Really, sir?”
Gillespie said “Uh-huh. It was better’n this.”

Use a glass mug. Not paper cups which is lined with plastic that melts into your coffee and stays in your body.

Thanks for this video. I am starting a coffee team at my church, which is a very old church and they have one of these percolator coffee makers. Any advice you can give on the ratios of coffee to water? I am just gonna have to experiment I think.

I do not drink coffee but when I got married in the 1960's and started having showers, Tupperware parties, etc., I had to learn quickly how to make a delicious cup of coffee. My mother loved coffee sooo much and this is what she told me to do. If you have 8 guests, add 8 cups of water. She said to always subtract one coffee scoop, however. So for those 8 guests, I put in 7 scoops of coffee. Since I didn't drink it, I had to rely on my guests to tell me if they liked it. It was ALWAYS a hit. My friends would voluntarily critique my coffee in the most positive way.
So, that is my tried and true advice.
Good luck on your coffee journey. I hope this helped. Barbara in Dallas

Bro it isn't pumped it turns into steam and evaporates👍🏽

It boils up through the tube, steam is less significant

You're missing the main purpose/ benefit in your explanation - while boiling, the already brewed coffee travels back up through the middle tube making the taste stronger/better. You can actually use less coffee grounds than today's coffee machines.
