Here's our reaction to Dev Patel's MONKEY MAN!
We came across this trailer a few months ago and were looking forward to this one for a while. We purposefully stayed away from any media around it, so we went into it completely blind. Fun. Action-packed. And some great story-telling!

people binging the reaction this movie we gather here.
I kinda wish he wore the monkey mask for the final fight
Still good tho🙂
Haha right? I was disappointed when he took it off 😂😂
The tabla scene was to show how when he fight he had a lot of rage and sadness in its punches by synchronising his punches with the tabla he was supposed to get more calm, better breathing and a rhythm to his punches
I saw this in theaters a couple of weeks ago. It's a shame it did not do better at the box office. I hope the at home numbers are strong for this because it's a hell of a directorial debut. 7/10 for me.
I was wondering if it was his debut! He did such a great job.
It was a box office hit. It made money. It was only made for a messily $10 million. It’s made $33 million. Not a huge financial hit, but it was profitable.
It was still very profitable compared to the budget and the lack of Reputation or Hype. Sadly it wasn't released in India because The ruling Party isn't really happy about the whole, Main villain using religion and religious pride as means to control the people. Because that's exactly what politicians here do.
great video!! one of my fav movies, glad u guys enjoyed it
Really impressive debut!
The shakiness and closeups of the first big action scene is to show the main characters built up of rage in act 1, it’s disorienting and he also gets beat up a lot, to show that rage and his revenge was his main drive for that first fight, but after the training he is alit more composed which also shows in the camera work which is a lot wider to show how he has changed and also his revenge isn’t just for his mother but for the other people that helped him
Wow! That's such a cool detail they added into the film. It makes such a huge difference by the end.
clearing some doubts:
The city in the film is Mumbai/ Bombey
Guns are banned here in India..
This story is based on Hanuman he is considered to be on of the avatars of god shiva.. for us hanuman is a symbol of power and protector from all evils
Most places have no where near as much gun's as America
Fair. Didn’t even think about that!
The first Attempt is like a hitman mission. You go into the level, get the layout of the building, make your way upto the target, establish contacts, plan getaways, smuggle in tools, get him alone and then assassinate him.
Second one is more like the One man army style, from Raid or John Wick (In this case much closer to Raid compared to John wick since there are barely any guns in the movie)
Also the pace of the action. There are two main action scenes (3 if you count the Arena fighting). The first scene is slow, brutal but slow. More in the lines of Nobody's Bus Fight. Well we never get his name do we ? So I am gonna refer to the actor as the character.
Dev is not a bad fighter but he is sluggish, makes a lot of mistakes and gets tired easily. Although after both Physical and Mental Training in the second fight scene he is faster, his strikes are sharper and most importantly he is not wasting energy.
Love this breakdown! Really wish more people gave this movie a chance. It was great!
It was a blood bath wasn’t it ? 😭🤣🔥🔥🔥. Great film
I watched Monkey Man last week and I loved it
So good. Such an impressive directing debut. haha
I only understand one thing 😌 don't trust the god's man trust only the god ✨
30:29 - yes, then you don't get MONKEY MAN.
You get GUN MAN.
I don't understand why people watch martial arts movies and complain there's no guns, yet they'll watch space battle pew pew movies and not complain that there's sound in space.
30:38 - Yep, that's what everyone was thinking during the Crazy 88 battle in KILL BILL: "there's 88 of them and they didn't bring guns?"
Sigh.
Haha just breathe bro. Relax. It’s gonna be okay. You seem very stressed over this. 😅
And… the crazy 88 brought lethal weapons with them that matched the context of the scene. They didn’t just show up with their bad intentions 😂
You mentioning it 5 times across your video made it pretty clear you were stressed about it.
It was just annoying to watch a reaction video where someone keeps asking dumb questions repeatedly.
The context of the scene is that if a couple people brought guns then Uma Thurman's character would be dead and there'd be no movie. That's the context of the scene in both films. The fact that you know less about one culture than another doesn't mean you're making insightful witty remarks.
Not my style of reaction vid, sorry.
Best of luck with your future stuff. I'm out.
Haha thanks for the engagement! 😂
Y’all talk way to much n know way little to have a channel
And yet we have one 😂 - thanks for the engagement!
@@PhilipManzano he is completely right, do you research first.
It's a commentary reaction. Like a wise CZcamsr, Zzavid says: "If you want silence during a movie, watch it yourself."
