I remember being very into jamil/kalim when I started playing, I liked the idea of Jamil caring so much for Kalim and I found them so cute...and then book 4 happened, I was so destroyed by the betrayal that I hated the ship for a while JDKSBAJSJ, now I like it again for different reasons but I love how their ship dynamic can vary depending how much you've read into the story

Pitching in here as an AceRiddle shipper with very specific reasons as to why I like them (they remind me of a different ship I love from a different fandom). Your realization of Ace being a tsundere is 👏 YES! THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HE IS AND I LOVE HIM FOR IT!! But also, if you squint, AceRiddle _can_ be a ship consisting of two tsunderes and I find that absolutely hilarious.
Like, Riddle, after so going through so much with and keeping Ace in check and getting a headache from it, sees the loyalty and companionship he has for his friends and thinking "I guess he's not that bad..." Putting up with Ace's antics but eventually finds them amusing and funny. And then later on, actually falling for Ace and going "Oh no." because he's fallen for the resident troublemaker and he doesn't know how to handle that (especially with Ace's tendecy to tease and mess around with anything that breathes and has two legs).
And then Ace going through Book 1 and past that, slowly seeing Riddle's good qualities and frankly, absolute adorableness (his initial SSR vignette!!!) and then going "Wow, he's kinda cute." And immediately slapping himself for it because "what the heck? I seriously did NOT just call the Housewarden 'cute'!" And then him going on this whole spiel of denial, and him trying to justify his reasons for thinking that Riddle's cute and trying to keep his cool in all of this. It's great :D
Anyways, great video! I loved hearing your in depth breakdowns on each pairing here, it made me understand more the reason why people ship some of the more popular ones, aside from the obvious reasonings. Can't wait for part 2 and the Interdorm pairings (because hoo boy, from what I've heard, some of them are just- :0 ya know?)

I know I do not ship every pairing in the video, but I really enjoyed seeing you explain them all and was even introduced to new pairings I don’t really see come up all too often. This video, as well as your other ones, was a lot of fun!
Since I am unsure of ship names myself and tend to just do [name] x [name] or [name] and [name] when referring to certain ships in Twisted Wonderland, I wonder if any fans have compiled the ship names in a list? I guess that is something I will look into out of curiosity and see what other fans have done for the ships in Twisted Wonderland.
For interdorm ships, from reading through the comments, from observance and discussions I have seen fans have, not only does Leona and Jamil share similarities, but honestly both Jamil and Vil and Vil and Leona do too. I think that is why the relationships between any combination of Leona, Vil, and Jamil (whether romantic or platonic) interests me a lot. I tend to focus a bit more on Leona and Jamil’s and Vil and Jamil’s relationship a little more since they aren’t really noticed as much as much as Leona and Vil, unfortunately…
If you are interested of course, it would be pretty cool to see Jamil and Vil featured in the interdorm ship video! If not, that is okay.
I think the reason that people don’t really pay attention to Sebek and Silver in a romantic light as much is due to regarding them as brothers. Much like others said, I am all for fans having their own interpretations or headcanons and if anyone views them as a brother, that is okay. But, objectively speaking, they are not biologically related and saying that their relationship is “brother-like” also does not make them related, either. Besides, Sebek has his own family, his mom, dad, siblings, and maybe his grandfather, that he lives with. he never has lived with Silver or Lilia, only visited and stayed over on occasion while being trained by Lilia alongside Silver. I personally do not see anything wrong with the pairing, but I guess it is up to personal preference.

It’s so fun to see all the kinds of ships people have in this fandom. My personal favs are Leona x Ruggie, I just love their dynamic and how they look out for each other without being overly obvious about it plus I love the subtle ways Leona helps Ruggie without Ruggie feeling like a charity case. And Idia x Cater, this one was mostly fueled by opposites attract type of fan fiction. With Idia letting Cater not having to be ‘on’ all the time and Cater helping Idia not be AS MUCH of a shut in.

but so true abt a big part of jamikali being their inherent tragedy and the lack of possible happy endings- for me at least. I spend many hours thinking about these two sillies and my brain always strays to bittersweet or straight up tragic endings for them- theyre like.... theres no way that they can be together an be happy and theres no way they can be seperate and me happy- not both of them at least- one would always have to sacrfice their happiness or freedom for the other in some way and maybe theyd both be unhappy anyways because theyd either be separate or theyd be together but know the other was unhappy- you gotta really stretch to imagine a perfect ending for them- in opinion at least- which I guess is part of what I love about them! I never really considered it until this video, aside from noticing how I kill off Kalim in a lot of the scenarios i imagine,,,hes my favorite character i swear im just as bad as all his attempted assassinators- theres so much to chew on!! they earned their spot of being in the top 5 on ao3...twice...lol

Hey, I want to say I really love this video and the reasons you pull up. Just overall this video is worthy of a chefs kiss. Hope there’s a part two.
To be honest, the only one I really ship that you listed out is Trey/Riddle. Everything else...? Honestly, most of them I either can't see or are flat out despise them like JamiKali and VilRook. (No, I'm not explaining why as I don't want to hate on others OTPs.)
TWST canon pairings that I ship that aren't listed here (because I also ship OCs/Yuu with some of them):
Vil/Jack (Only when Jack is 18+): They are childhood best friends, and truly care a lot about each other. Jack is able to see past the facade and loves Vil for who he is. I can see sparks flying between them down the line. I still wish that Jack was more involved in the Pomefiore arc. They also contrast each other looks wise nicely.
Epel/Deuce: They both understand each other's struggles well and balance each other out. I still swear the whole beach thing was a date. xD
Vil/Leona: They have an interesting dynamic, and I can see an enemies to lovers thing going on with them.
Leona/Malleus: Similar as the one above, but Leona would be happier becoming the prince consort to Malleus.
Idia/Azul: They are already well acquainted with one another, balancing each other out well.
Jamil/Azul: This is more of an enemies to lovers situation. They are both wicked smart guys, and I can see them pushing each other to become better people. There are also some great JamiAzu fics on AO3.

Since when I first watched this video, I was alternating between watching and listening, I missed the nod to Soriku (on screen) at around 41:03. As a Soriku shipper, you have no clue how much I see people say that about them…

I realize after I posted my comment, that there were some ships that I forgot to mention, but ultimately came to the consensus that it was all right since the list was already really detailed, so what’s a few missed ships.

One thing I will also mention real quick will be Ace and Riddle. My first introduction to the pairing would be with some fan fictions that were involving Trey and Cater that also featured Ace and Riddle, but I hadn’t really see them come up all that much outside of those two fics.
I know I don’t actively seek out ship content too much for other pairings that I am indifferent towards or just don’t really think about, but I do see some ships come up from time to time in CZcams comments and what not. And surprisingly Riddle and Ace has not been one. For that reason, I didn’t really know just how popular they are or what people really thought about them. I enjoyed how you included a segment dedicated to them because I became kind of curious about that pairing from seeing them pop up a couple of times in those Trey and Cater fan fictions. It helped me learn a bit more about their relationship and interactions, especially since interactions between any two characters is sprinkled throughout various points in the game. Due to them not being in one place, the bigger picture tends to get lost on me sometimes…Especially the more certain characters interact in game.

Now onto Part 2:
Spoiler warnings for a few things that both are still on going and have passed in the Japanese version of the game and are not in the English version yet, which includes, in the vaguest way possible:
- The name/title of the new birthday card series.
- I will be mentioning Trey’s new birthday card story, but I won’t be mentioning anything about the story itself, the voice lines, or who his presenter is.
- The name of the fall/October/Halloween event that happened during 2023 in the Japanese server, which will be happening in 2024 for the English server. I will not be mentioning anything about the plot of this event.
-I will also be mentioning a line Cater says in book/chapter 3 of this event mentioned above, but it’s not really a spoiler heavy line or anything.
-I will also be indirectly mentioning a scene that happens in aforementioned event, but I did not go into major detail about it.g

Shifting gears now to Trey and Cater. I had to cut myself off at sharing some brief thoughts about the Vargas Camp 2 change. If I did not stop there, I would have continued.
I can’t believe I didn’t consider that diamond shaped habanero tart being made by Trey. I certainly hope so, both in general, and for a few other specific reasons which I’ll be going into, including; who else would have made the tart, really? I love you Trey, you are one of my favorite characters, but a toothbrush is a lame gift. (Cater’s birthday boy suit up voice lines).
Before going into why I find the toothbrush gift lame, yes, I do understand that Trey is very into dentistry and practicing good dental hygiene is important to him and his family (since it was his parents that hammered that into him due to the “working at a bakery, and are surrounded by sweets“ thing).
Now, for the reasons why I find it is lame.
1. Even if it is a practical gift that’ll get used, it is just… Based off of Trey’s interests? If he did that to, say Ace or something, I would dismiss it as both silly, and because he does not know him well enough yet to get a gift tailored to his interests. Whereas with Cater, the two of them are now juniors. This is their third year since meeting and knowing each other. Trey could’ve given him anything else that does take his interests into account more, especially since Cater sisters do a bad job with that more often than not. Trey is not Cater’s sisters. He knows Cater, so why did the writer(s) possibly make that choice? Which leads to point two.
2. This comes from YuuRei’s post and video about how Cater was changed in the English version. This is only a possibility/speculation/conjecture over why the writers made this choice in the first place, so myself and others are not saying it is true. If this does turn out to be true, I do understand why the writers potentially made this choice in the end. They possibly needed to clear up any confusion, but it certainly did not do Trey much justice, honestly, and over something pretty minor/trivial no less - gifting him a toothbrush.
As for the choice the writers potentially had to make, it is possible that fans were getting confused over Cater’s “fang.” As YuuRei explains it, since there are characters in the cast who are nonhuman or are partly human who have fangs/more prominent canines, fans were wondering if Cater could be therianthropic/a beastman or maybe a Fae. To clear that up, it is possible that Trey’s gift was how they went about it, since Cater asked if it was Trey’s way of saying to take better care of his snaggletooth. The English version translated “snaggletooth” as just “teeth” for whatever reason. (Just in case, therianthropic, or alternatively therianthrope or therianthropy, refers to someone conceived of being partly human and partly animal in form. The more commonly known version of therianthropy would be lycanthropy, also known as werewolves.)
If this was a choice the writers definitely did make to clear up this confusion, I just wonder if there could’ve been a better way to do it? Oh well, it is what it is.

As for who could have made the tart… If it was Trey, I wonder why they are being secretive about it? Trey making food for others is not out of the ordinary? Meanwhile, yes, it could’ve been any other Heartslabyul Dorm member, however, the game has not really given us too much to work with when it comes to the baking ability of the other Heartslabyul students. Sure some could be pretty decent, and/or are learning, it is just with the examples we have been shown with other Heartslabyul dorm members trying to bake… The freshman made a nightmare monstrosity (Trey’s dorm uniform card), and the sophomores (Trey’s starsending card) were struggling, needing Trey to step in, and explain what they were doing wrong (politely, of course), and he ultimately ended up taking over.
As for why I hope the tart came from Trey is because it would make up for the silliness of the toothbrush gift. I read a fanfiction that the premise of it was about Trey having a different gift to give Cater, with the toothbrush being not the actual one. It was cute and I loved the concept of it, so to know that there is a canon possibility of that being case… I just love it honestly!
Sorry about having to separate this! I guess CZcams didn’t like the length because I kept on getting an error code when I tried to post it. The rest is below:
Slight Spoilers for the new series of Birthday Cards currently ongoing in the Japanese below:
There was an ask I saw on Ras/Mystery Shop Translations that pointed out how the union jacket birthday presenters went in order of their birthdays. I never paid attention, ha ha. The post went on to talk about since there really wasn’t a set pattern like that for the Bloom Broom card presenters, fans, from what I understand, were left scrambling trying to figure the pattern out. The Platinum Jackets series of birthday cards starts, and it appears they were following the “birthdays of the presenters” order again. This means that, for Trey, he would’ve had Cater as his. I was hoping, but left a little wiggle room of doubt.
Trey’s birthday comes in the Japanese server, and the pattern was thrown out the window, unfortunately. I was rather frustrated, because, meanwhile I know that to truly work through their issues, the two individually need to go get therapy (like you said in your video, including before forming a healthy relationship with themselves and others). But, since they are fictional characters, they obviously cannot make the conscious choice to go get therapy, if they want to. The writers have to make the decision on their behalf. So, until then, there is just so much left unsaid when looking at Trey and Cater individually as characters and with their relationship with one another. Things that go unexplored on a deeper level. Things that get brought up to never get brought up again. I was really hoping that Cater would act as Trey’s presenter because then it would be a one on one conversation between the two of them for a whole card story. When was the last time we had that? I wanted to see what the conversation would be like, where it would go, even if it wasn’t fully serious all the time… But oh well. I just want something for them again, separately, and together…

Slight Spoilers for the Fall/Halloween/October event that happened in 2023 in the Japanese Server:
The change in Vargas Camp 2 is something I did not know about and it is funny to me. There’s honestly not anything wrong with being worried/concerned for someone you are close with when they literally get abducted right before your eyes, being unable to do anything to stop it, you know? Expressing relief over them being all right when found safe is also a normal response? I would too for someone I am close with, regardless of which way I am.
It really makes me wonder when the Stage in Playful Land comes to the English version, how the English localizers are going to translate something Cater says in Book 3 Part 10 of the Stage in Playful Land story. Credits for this translation goes to the CZcams user Ekala. How they translated the line is as follows: “Trey-kun, how rude~ If you smile all cool like that, I’m gonna fall for you, you know?” Ekala included a translation note where they mentioned, “OK, so this is more literally like “you’ll make my heart skip a beat“ but you’ll have to trust me on this one.” When I copied and pasted the Japanese text of what Cater said about Trey into Google, a lot of the images that came up for that exact phrasing were images between anime characters that were more romantic in nature. So it appears there are romantic connotations to what he said.
Additionally, I also somewhat recently was introduced to another online translator website - known as Deep L translate - which was recommended more over Google translate. I’ve used it a few times, and there’s definitely a major difference in translations, in a good way. I also ran Cater’s line through that, out of curiosity, and it came back with,“Trey-kun, That's not fair. If he said it with such a cool smile, I'd have a crush on him, wouldn't I?” Since it is an online translation, it should be taken with a grain of salt nonetheless, I just wanted to share what it gave me.
From a representation standpoint point, it will be frustrating if another suggestion/implication of the “Cater is bisexual” interpretation gets removed again. Given the English versions track record, I do not know if I should hold my breath on that not happening, unfortunately.
There is also a scene in the event that plays out somewhat similarly to a scene in Vargas Camp 2, but I’ll leave it at that. Again with these two. They are so hopeless…

I hope it is OK mentioning something objective about Jamil and Kalim’s relationship. It is about the “childhood friends” label. When looking at the relationship through the eyes of Kalim, it is easy to say that label is definitely there, and Kalim would regard himself and Jamil as such. However, when looking at the relationship through the eyes of Jamil, it isn’t as straightforward like it is with Kalim. It wouldn’t be surprising if Jamil makes a distinction between “childhood friends” (with Kalim), and having known him since childhood. As a real life example, even though the situation is different from theirs, there are plenty of people I have known since childhood. Even though we were on amicable terms, for some of them, at least, we weren’t really friends. We were nothing more than just classmates/schoolmates and acquaintances. For those people in particular, I wouldn’t really label them as “friends/childhood friends,” but that I just have known them since childhood.
Given the complexities and complicated nature of Jamil’s feelings and his and his family’s situation, he just isn’t there yet. I am not saying he won’t get there/it is impossible for Jamil to get there, it just a work in progress.

I watched your first Deep Dive video around the time you uploaded it (and I am currently re-watching it) and that video was also a lot of fun to go through! AceRid is definitely a kind of rarepair- as in you don't find a lot of content about them easily, unless you know where to look. but their interactions in game endeared me to the ship, so i'm glad I could spread the agenda for more people!! and for your read on JamiKali, yeah i can definitely see that! their dynamic is so complex to me its part of why i like to analyse it so much. we dont really know for certain what they feel towards one another, even in terms of friendship, it's fun to think of "what ifs" 🥺 💔
as for Trekei, i definitely remember hearing about differing opinions on the toothbrush gift, and it really is sad to see how rarely some characters interact one on one between all the events and main story 😭 but damn i did not know about that line from the playful land event 😳 i avoided a lot of the main spoilers so i could play the EN version when it comes out, but if they censor cater again i might just cry 😭😭

I follow the expression, “ship and let ship,“ meaning, regardless of how I may, or may not feel about a ship, I leave people be to enjoy what they enjoy. This also applies to head canons and interpretations. I think that is ultimately a part of the reason why I was waffling between should I mention what ships I despise or don’t like (in addition to the ones I do, of course) or should I leave it at saying I just have some I despise or don’t like? If I do mention any specific ships I don’t like, I won’t say why I don’t like them due to my “my ship and let ship mindset.“ I don’t want to rain on anyone’s parade by going into specifics. Which obviously means, everything I mention is my own personal preference and mine alone. It was ultimately sorcerer’s apprentices’ comment that gave me the push to consider just mentioning the ships I don’t like without going into detail. There may be a few ships I will leave a little note on, the notes not going into major detail, but since they eliminate a lot of ships, I just wanted to give my personal reasoning and mine alone. If people still happen to ship them, to reiterate, I won’t stand in anyone’s way from having fun and enjoying what they enjoy due to my “ship and let ship mindset.“
I think I also will post two separate comments, since one is about my shipping preferences and the other is some thoughts I had about Trey and Cater specifically, and one other thing. For now, since I have completed the first part of the comment (this one here), I’ll post this for the time being while I work on part 2. I’ll try and post part two as soon as possible!
I’ll start with ships I love:
- Trey and Cater: They fall into friends to lovers, which is a trope that I love (as well as childhood friends to lovers). They are close with one another and really do care and look out for each other.
-Epel and Deuce: the relationship is really cute, they understand each other, and they have mutual interests.
-Leona and Jamil. Obviously not right now for three reasons: one. Jamil‘s age, two. The two of them - much like a lot of the characters in the cast - have a lot to work through still, and should prioritize themselves over any potential Romantic relationship, and three. They have just recently reached a mutual understanding towards each other so their friendship is still very new. Their dynamic/relationship really interests me a lot. There was this one piece of fan art I saw on Twst-Mer’s Tumblr blog of Leona and Jamil, platonic in nature, where the artist mentioned an analysis that they saw in the Japanese side of the fandom. They included in the tags and it went as follows: “Jamil’s mindset of ‘I have to do my best, I have to think own my own, I have to sacrifice myself to protect someone,’ has become the norm for him. And so, when he teams up with Leona this time, ‘I don’t have to protect someone else. I can get someone’s help. I can depend on someone.’ The fact that he could team up with someone like that must’ve been a huge deal.” It really put a lot into perspective reading that and Twst-mer’s inclusion of: Leona is “an adult that Jamil can rely on.” The two of them honestly share some similarities and a common ground with each other, which is another reason their relationship fascinates me so much. Obviously I mainly look at their relationship platonically, but, who knows how their relationship can change and grow in the future, you know? I obviously understand if you do not want to talk about this pairing in the future inter dorm ship video due to the age gap. There have been some people who have talked about their relationship in a platonic light, but I wish more people would.
- Ships I like:
-Riddle and Trey: This one was one I had a hard time placing yet again. I was flip-flopping between “like” and “love” again. This for me, falls into childhood friends to lovers, they do care about and look out for each other. I only moved it down since, courtesy of Riddle’s mother, they spent nearly a decade apart, so their relationship is in the reparation and rekindling stage at this moment. Nearly ten years is a long time, honestly. I really can’t believe, well, I can, and I can’t, that Riddle’s mom is still holding a grudge against a boy who is not that much older than her own son. There’s also the added fact that Trey, for whatever reason, isn’t really open and honest with his feelings and thoughts when it comes to himself and his relationships. There are things, like you mentioned in your video, that he is keeping from Riddle, but are clearly things that are bothering him. Since he’s good at hiding his emotions, apparently, if Riddle doesn’t actively notice that something is wrong, then, chances are he’s not going to think that something is wrong in the first place. I guess that things could be a little bit better in the communication department with these two. But despite their relationship being a work in progress, I do rather like it flaws and all. It has potential.
- Kalim and Silver: I find this relationship very cute as well, and is certainly very underrated.
-Cater, Trey, and Riddle. This one is one that I’m warming up to, and not in a “why not both?“ kind of way, it is just, when it isn’t just Riddle and Trey, Trey and Cater, or Cater and Riddle, it is the three of them together. I started to kind of consider the three of them maybe having romantic feelings for each other.
-Vil and Jack: childhood friends, respect one another, don’t judge other, and cute. Need to see more of them, honestly…
- Silver and Sebek (recent addition): Silver’s dorm uniform card, story and book 7 have me seeing not just Sebek in a different light, but his relationship and feelings towards Silver as well. I was certainly not expecting that, but it was certainly welcome.
Ships I despise:
- Jamil and Azul. (I had note them first.)
-Kalim and Jamil
- Vil and Rook
-Malleus and Cater
- Malleus and Leona
- Lilia and any student. (I’m sorry, it is just… Silver’s around the same age as the students in this game, and Lilia raised him… It just feels off for me, but if you do ship Lilia with any students, I am not going to stand in your way.)
-Relationships between blood relatives or guardian figures. I am sorry, but out of personal preference, that is a line I do not cross.
-Ships I am indecisive of “despising“ or “not liking” them, but I do not like them nonetheless.
-Ace and Deuce
-Leona and Idia.
-Silver and Idia. (To be honest, this one isn’t inherently bad, even if it is not a fan favorite, but it is just that Idia has a lot to work through before he is comfortable with forging bonds with others).
-Any Octavinelle ships, in general. Mainly because I don’t like Octavinelle (personally) and liking ships involving them means actually having to think about Octavinelle…Also I interpret Jade specifically as asexual and aromantic. (My own personal interpretation/head canon). (I also hope it isn’t too silly listing some specific pairings involving Octavinelle.)
-Leona and Ruggie. Though I can definitely appreciate the ways the game shows us of them caring about and looking out for each other, even if it is in their own roundabout ways.
-Riddle and Floyd
-Vil and Leona. Though their relationship/dynamic is pretty entertaining. There are also some nice or more genuine moments between them.
-Trey and Jade.
-Malleus and Silver. I do not mind their relationship platonically, just not so much romantically.
Any other ships that I have not mentioned, I just have not really thought about so I don’t really know where to place them.
All in all, though, this was a really fun video to watch and I enjoyed hearing you break down some of the relationships in Twisted Wonderland! Looking forward to your future uploads!

As a multi-shipper fan of many fandoms, what fascinated me about Twisted Wonderland was that I'm very neutral in shipping for TWST. I'll enjoy a good story about a ship, but I won't go looking for a particular ship either.
I know the popular ones, I know the ones that hit all my favorite tropes, but at the end of the day, they were all okay for me. Maybe it is because each students, excluding Ortho, could be shipped with another student so the mix-and-match desensitized it for me. This is a school and they are all classmates and friends, anything could happen honestly. And this is coming from someone who shipped the heck out of very specific characters in Hetalia; some characters just didn't jive fore me because of the history.
The only ship I don't like is riddle x Floyd😅
I’d like to share my rare pair Malleus/Cater ☺️ I’m a multi shipper but they have such s suft spot in my heart… the sun and moon dynamic they have in appearance makes me smile :> . It’s been awhile sing I played the game, I only just got back into it today, but I feel they’re really cute :3

As a Autistic person and 24 years old, I'm a TWST Multishipper that really don't give a fuck about others opinions. Love is love(with consent of course). For example: I ship Leona with Epel, because I know Leona will always make sure to ask Epel or any other minors for their consent before doing anything that will make anyone uncomfortable, Leona is not the guy to force himself onto others. I also love all characters equally, it's hard to choose one, but if I have to pick one, My favorite character is Idia Shroud because I strongly Kin/relate to him 100% and spiritually.
