    This is living proof that the autism spectrum is so wide but everyone on the spectrum has their special qualities. I am also guessing that Ezra’s bed is now Houdini escape proof? They both seem so content sleeping in the same room. I also admire your patience with them both. A parents love for their child should be totally unconditional and Ezra and Simon are blessed to have you both as their parents. In fact, the whole family dynamic is super awesome.

    You know, whenever I come across a video like this on others, or children with Autism, it almost brings a tear to my eye. Being I'm on the spectrum myself. All I can say is you'll notice their gifts sooner or later, and to nurture them. All of us that are on the spectrum live with our own demons I like to say, but what makes us so strong is that we continuously get up, day after day and fight those demons head on again and again. Weather it be sensory things, non-verbal things, overpowering smells, lights, etc. We take on this neurotypical world and make sure they know we're here! 😁

    This is a great video because you are helping both boys to find their way and somehow holding them to account. Like getting Ezra to clean up the mess and having a consistent approach. Also not giving them screens 24/7 to keep them occupied. Sometimes when a child has a difference there is a tendency to feel sorry for them or bad for them abd they are allowed to do what they want. That’s fine when they are little but roll on 20 years and you have a big man with a lot of acres soon. I lived and worked with people with autism and I noticed that the people who were treated like their other siblings and given some boundaries , found life as an adult much easier. I’m not judging parents who resort to screens or bribes, but i would say start early with positive guidelines and boundaries just like you’d give your other children .

    Having raised an autistic daughter that was non verbal, had seizures, was diabetic on insulin and had cerebral palsy, it was definitely a challenge but yes she taught me so much. My daughter wore braces as well. She sinced passed a few years ago at 37 from cancer. There are some funny moments that I can laugh about now. One thing I was always aware of is there is constant communication. It doesn't have to be verbal much like your son turning away from the cereal. You are doing everything right. Structure is so important. Sometimes even going down a different street on the way home can be traumatizing. My daughter would not wear hats, gloves, hoods, anything on her hair like elastics or clips and definitely no jewellery. I think the worst scenarios were hospital visits. She was always so scared and IVs were very hard. You have wonderful sons. I noticed you also got the pjs that do up in the back. Good job you guys.

    We eat cereal plain and serve the milk on the side. Works for us. Some days he likes both, others he just drinks his milk. We add some healthy bacteria to his milk to keep his gut healthy. We tried different methods adding them to milk or juice. It seems one kind goes better with juice and the other one with milk. Since one of them is enough we try one an use the other one if he didn't like to drink milk. It rarely happens.

    Here’s a suggestion for keeping socks together without putting one completely inside the other to make a ball while still avoiding the problem of misplacing some of the socks. Line up the two socks one on top of the other. Then slide one of the socks down about four to five inches or so using the length of your thumbnail to estimate an inch. Then fold the top part of one sock over the top part of the other sock. If done correctly this should allow you to keep the two socks in the pair together without losing too much storage space in a drawer or other container.

    You can also help him to learn how to wash and dry his hands. Hopefully his school is also helping him to learn this. This may help him to develop more autonomy. He’s more than a year older now and he’s probably ready for this.

    Food is medicine, grains turn to sugar which causes inflammation. Starchy sugars from fruit are far better and have lots of nutrients. Also lots of nutrients in A2A2 whole milk. Almond milk has little benefits and the gut has a hard time digesting.

    I was only recently diagnosed with autism and I am in my 30s. I grew up with a horrid biological family I was labelled wierd and laughed at when I couldn't cope with such simple things. I ended up just not doing what was wanted of me and as a result was called lazy. I now have a supportive family around me my step mum took me in and helped me. I love seing how supportive you guys are. It's not an easy job but you are amazing parents :)

    I noticed toward the end of this video that Ezra only seems to be able to tap fairly precisely on the item that he wants on his iPad when he is moving his arm quickly. I notice that he seems to struggle more with this when he moves more slowly. I am the same way when I use my own iPad (as I am right now as I am typing this). This is also the case with me when I touch type on a traditional keyboard.
    This tells me that Ezra likely has a condition that affects movement like I do but in his case it seems to be somewhat more noticeable. Maybe some additional physical and occupational therapy could help to address this.

    It looks like Ezra wanted string cheese and it looks like his communication is starting to come along here. I wonder if giving him some string cheese (or whatever he asks for on a particular morning) and some cereal (in small quantities to avoid sensory overload) could work.
    This may give him an incentive to communicate a bit more. On a related note maybe you can try making snacks for Ezra from cheese and fruit. This should be workable as long as the cheese and fruit is in small enough pieces to be safe to eat.
    On a related note grape juice would probably be safer for Ezra than actual grapes. I don’t know how well Ezra is able to chew before swallowing. That could be an issue especially if he has any conditions that affect muscle tone. For example, cerebral palsy can effect this. I have a very mild form of cerebral palsy that mostly effects my speech but when I was younger it also effected what I could eat safely even into the grade school years. Sometimes conditions like this can go undiagnosed for many years if they are mild enough. If Ezra has not been checked for this in addition to the conditions that he has already been diagnosed with then some additional neurological testing may be in order.
    To give you an idea of how easy it is for these things to fall through the cracks I was first diagnosed as being on the spectrum and having right hemisphere damage (as as result of complications from a premature birth) at age two shortly after my two year checkup. This diagnosis was confirmed when I was nineteen-and-a-half (nearly twenty years old) during a neurological exam after I complained of optic migraine symptoms to my parents. The one new thing that came out of this examination that I recall at the moment is that this was the first time that a doctor mentioned that I also have a mild form of cerebral palsy. If Ezra also happens to have this (or something similar (maybe a movement disorder of some type?)) no matter how mildly then some additional physical and occupational therapy is probably in order. It might also explain his current lack of speech and apparent difficulties with pointing to specific items on his iPad (including ones that he wants (such as “string cheese”)). It might also partially explain some of his current difficulties with toilet training. Other factors like fear of the toilet (including the flushing sound) could also be an issue.
    This pretty much sums up my observations on this for now.

    How are they on school mornings and does Simon need a safety bed or is it just something that he really likes

    • @7Aheadfamily
      @7Aheadfamily  Před rokem +3

      Simon doesn't really need the inclosed bed that he has, he is just used to it and likes it. We will transition him to a typical bed later, when he out grows this one. I am guessing though, when we get him a twin size bed, he may want a tent to go over. when we don't zip him up, h will zip it up himself. and also, Simon will start Preschool in the fall, so he doesn't do school yet, and has therapy at home sometimes. As for Ezra, he did school last year and though he liked it, he regressed. We've found he learns better at home with a therapist. We are really focusing on getting him potty trained at home, and we have the Therapists do Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy with him. He is really learning how to use his iPad to communicate now, which is exciting. So this video is actually their school morning.

    I have pdd nos and have 2 diffrend morning routines. I live in a housing facility for people with disabilities in holland. I have my own apartment, a cat and 2 rabbits (the rabbits live outside). I work 3 days a week on a care farm with horses, cats, rabbits, chickens and dogs. On my work days i wake up ta 7:45. I need my time to wake up and eat my breakfast. First i hug an kiss my cat and check my whatsapp then go to the badroom. Then i feed my cath and let him go oudside if he want to, put on my clotes and go feed my rabbits. Then i make and eat my breakfast that is coffee (very important in the morning 😂) 4 crackers and a cup a soup while i do diamond painting until is time to go to work. On my days off i wake up at 11:00 and the first part is te same. Because im free i take more time for breakfast some tims i feed te rabbits before my breakfast and sometimes after. I dont like it when I have to rush. I use essential oil in a diffuser, omega 3, magnesium and light therapy in the winter to feel better and happyer 😊

      I accept my autism. I dont see it as a disabilety but as a ability. I can work with horses, i have horse riding lessons for people with a handicap on friday evening. And the most amazing thin is i take western lessons with a friend who has a diability in here hip on saterday one week trail and the next week reining. Western is amazing because it doesn't matter if you are disabled ore not you lear the same thins. The trail lesson is in a group with non disabled people and they accept us and we do the same thins as the others even if its difficult its difficult or easy for everyone. The reining is just me and my friend. the thing i like the moost about the western horses is that they are slower and very smooth esspecialy the canter.

      I’m sorry. I am having trouble understanding what you’re saying. Are you saying that if your child was like this you would run away?

    I do think you created a calm and peaceful environment for your children which is important. I don't think it is good to be feeding them sugar which causes inflammation. For my son I steer clear of sugar.

    Зравствуйте! Попробуйте рефлексотерапию в реацентре. Если нет эпилепсии то будут лечить и ребенок заговорит, поведение поменяется.

      У нас после первого курса ребёнок начал повторять слова. Сейчас уже строит фразы. Метод придумали кандидаты наук из Самары. Клиники есть в разных городах России и других странах. Есть в Турции. Результаты за 4 курса очень хорошие.

    • @7Aheadfamily
      @7Aheadfamily  Před 9 měsíci +2

      He is. The reason he is in a high chair is because he won’t sit at the table.

      One colour with an other. I discovered that my son he didn,t like some colours .Or square with round products. He also didn,t like, for example hotchpotoch because toen he didn,t knew what was in it. Lucky enough het could talk. He had soms strange things. Round doesn,t mix wit square. It doesn,t fit. Like round cups in a square cupboard .

    Hi,
    It is heartbreaking to see kids like this.
    WHAT IS CAUSING THIS?
    That's my question. There's an frightening increase in ASD 1 in 15, but not one child with autism in the Amish community! Is it our food, pesticides, immunisations???

    • @7Aheadfamily
