    I'd have to argue that the van driver in #4 is not a COMPLETE idiot. The merge point was imminent, and cammer's lane was closing. Van driver had no right to play policeman and attempt to straddle both lanes (idiotic), but that close to the merge point, it might just encourage the zipper merge behind it. The car in front of cammer got away with a sneaky one, and cammer was obviously determined to do likewise - which, in that congestion, was always likely to be a loser. So, cammer decides the last chirp will be his, cuts onto the hatching (not allowed) and attempts then to cut across in front of the van in order to show who's boss. The cammer is the greater idiot in my opinion; but the whole shebang shows how traffic congestion brings out the worst in everyone...

    • @kgbgb3663
      @kgbgb3663 Před rokem

      No, the van driver had unilaterally decided that the merge-point was a good half-dozen vehicle lengths before the actual merge-point, so, yes, a complete entitled idiot who thinks he can re-write the rules of the road. Still, not nearly as bad as the cammer, of course.

    That lorry in clip #10 is almost certainly in breach of some regulations regarding overhangs andconstruction. You can see that the bed finishes far before the end of what looks like some sort of butchered container. With the rear wheels so far forward, then there will inevitably a massive amount of swing-out at the rear. Also, any load near the rear is going to have a serious effect on the centre of gravity and affect its stability. There is also no under-run guard at the rear, although that's just as well for the pedestrian. It looks like an unofficial and dangerous modification to me. It's more like the stuff you see done in some developing countries.

      The truck is perfectly legal. It’s an extendable body specially designed to move loads like that. There’s a company near where I live that use the same type of truck to move modular cabins which are roughly the same length as that container. They also move them on rigids. The container isn’t overhanging the trucks body either. When it zooms in on the pedestrian you can clearly see the licence plate underneath, as well as the lower crash bar. It’s fixed firmly onto the truck.

      @@middler5 there's a big problem with that lorry. The rear wheels are way to far forwards, there a massive overhang, there's no under-run protection bar. When loaded up, the centre of gravity will be too far back. You can see where the original load bed ended. Somebody has fixed a huge container onto a relatively short lorry base, and it's probably in breach of several construction rules. Among other things, the overhang can't be more than 60% of the wheelbase, and that's clearly way beyond that.

      @@eirebhoy132 But the merge point is where _the road engineers_ decide, not where _the van driver decides_. By forming an obstruction _before_ the proper merge point, the van driver assured that merge-in-turn couldn't possibly work as designed, because the vehicles behind him in the two lanes will be beside each other, so the priority between them will be undecided and they have to battle it out or one has to arbitrarily decide to give way to the other. The whole point of merge-in-turn is that _as you approach the merge point_ you establish priority by ensuring you are beside a gap in the other lane, so when you get to the actual merge, it is obvious who is ahead of whom and therefore who goes first.
      If by " drive past the merge point to get ahead", you mean the actual merge point marked on the road, rather than where he first tried to pass the van, then I absolutely agree. Driving on the hatched area was absolutely wrong.

    6:08 - it's an epidemic that's been plaguing the UK for decades.
    It's the same reason why you get the stereotypical "people rushing for the trains at busy stations in the morning" scenes. I think I know exactly why this happens though.
    Normally, you'd have something called a "timetable". Normally, you'd probably look up what time the trains are scheduled to leave, and plan in advance.
    However, what most people actually do, is just simply wake up, get ready for work or whatever, and just simply head to the station, without actually checking (or even remembering) when the train is leaving, then simply panic when they see a train heading to the station they're going to.... of course, no one ever takes into account the extremely obscure and very unheard of concept of "there will be another train in a few minutes", so people with somehow have the misconception that "this train that is right there, right now, is the very last ever train to ever exist in the entire universe, and if they don't catch THIS train RIGHT NOW, they will never get to work, ever again!"
    Likewise, as with this clip... instead of people thinking "I have to be at this place at this time, so I will leave early, just in case the traffic is bad", they're like "According to Google Maps, it takes exactly 23 minutes to get to this location in normal traffic, so I am going to leave exactly 23 minutes before the time I am due to start work, not taking into account the time it takes to actually get to the car, start the car up, stop at traffic lights, slow down for turns, stop to give way, and of course, stop the car, open the door, get out, walk up to whereever I'm working, clock in..." and so on.
