it's so wonderful watching these all and seeing Russell become so much more confident!!
I also love the way he laughs at Frankie's jokes as though he's the older brother he admires.
The others have mature, dark jokes. He mostly has jokes for special children
I'm sure this comment wouldn't bother him if he saw it.....or the one about Frankie being his ersatz older brother....

Russell’s a family comedian: but was actually a lot funnier (IMO) when he wasn’t so confident.

I’ve been watching this show for years and only just realised that the microphone in the middle is actually just for show and they’re all wearing lav mics lmao
Been watching this show forever, and I only realised last year or the year before!
Technically not though... It is used for spacial sound. The lav is a constant volume. But if the performers deliberately want to use volume or specific acoustic actions, the sound engineers can pick it up on the sound desk and put the stage mic a bit louder than the lav. But obviously as you say, they are all lav'd up, so they will always be audible, even if they don't go near the stage mic.

Resurrecting a comment, but they did have it working for quite a few series as the backup mic. Only one feed is heard. You see it used in a lot of the outtakes and clip shows.

I know Russell isn’t a favorite with a lot of people, but it is pretty amazing how much his delivery and timing improves after a few series.
How could anyone not like Russell?? He definitely qualifies as a comedian - he is hilarious!!
He was exactly the same through to when he left and started Good News. He was a well enjoyed comedian then and was a series regular for 9 seasons.
Always found his humour juvenile at best.
