Music from before I was born in 1944. They were still playing this music on the radio during my childhood.
You are sooo cool. l was born 2005, l would have loved to grow up to music like this.
Sounds super for a 193O recording and have always loved this melody
VERY GOOD MUSIC BACK THEN WHEN ONE COULD REALLY CALL IT MUSIC
Fields & McHugh are one of my favorite teams of the early Depression. I must believe that the optimism and happy mood in their songs was a ray of sunshine for the folks of the day who were dealing with hard times. Well, anyway their numbers affect this listener that way. Smith's clear, earnest delivery is ideal for this sweet number.
Speaking of Dorothy Fields, I thought of one of her lesser-known songs last week, when a cold snap had my veggie patches and raised garden beds snowed in, which I'd just built in the sunny 70s the week before. _April Fooled Me,_ a collaboration with Jerome Kern, well, sort of, as she added the evocative lyrics a decade after the master's death. The song was once introduced to me by Mark Murphy, and I had to think of him, too. I started to miss him, and in order to chase the looming blues away I played Bird's _Leap Frog,_ and I know that you know *why,* no fooling.
@@henridelagardere264 "April Fooled Me" is very poignant. Dorothy wasn't always a wise guy, slinging the slang. ... 'Course! -- I know _exactly_ why! Bird's harmonic structure sources never fail to amuse me.
Heavenly in it’s innocence
The 20th century will probably go down in history as the most diverse century ever thanks to the invention of sound.
Sound recording
I don't know why I keep coming back to this song. I feel like it just suits his voice perfectly.
Perfect! This is EXACTLY what my day needed.
THANKS FOR SHARING THIS GREAT MUSIC. SWING IS MY THING.

A lovely tune played by a quality orchestra on an amazing recording for that era.

❤this bone chilling message tune that came to mind before Alex today from God
Fabulous ❤❤
Good song
Another great example of great music from 78 prof.
Just as sincerely sang as Ruth Etting, though Lanin has a happier tone with his band.
One of my favorite standards! I love Count Basie's cover with Jimmy Rushing.
Good excelente
It amazes me how fate works. This is the song Redd Foxx sings in the Sanford and Son episode Sanford and Gong. To hear this song in time for the anniversary of his birth is a U tube treat. RIP and birthday wishes to Redd Foxx. 12. 9
Música muito linda,me lembra a época em que minha avó escutava em seu rádio esse tipo de música ;-;
Brilliant post!!

The tuba puts it on the map. Harry Richman did a good "Richman" version of it....
damn this is as great as roger's
is that a piano at 1:48?
Yes
@@erinerwine2809 so twinkly and delightful
Wonderful straight arrangement. BG on clarinet solo passage?? Thanks, BM.
Per Johnson-Shirley, it's Larry Abbott. He, BG, J Dorsey, Larry Binyon, Tony Parenti, etc. seemed to float in and out from one Lanin session to another during that period.
What a nice song! I sure hope it doesn’t get sampled in an album about dementia!
I have a question, how many vinyls do you have and where do you buy them? I want some myself
Brian Rust gives Larry Abbott,cl-as featured.
Fra le diverse interpretazioni questa a ritmo di fox-trot è la più gradevole
Elsie Carlisle rendition better as it really is girl's song.
Too sweet, too slow..This tune is best played uptempo.
Well it is supposed to be slow and sweet as it was a time for romance something lacking in today's music
