The first record that was actually my own to posses. That purple label! That great Texas accent! Those self-referential lyrics! That snazzy-jazzy ending!
love it! I was born in 1944
Once is cute. Doing another song like it is just greedy. Also, what is doing to those expensive gifts from last year that they're falling apart a year later?
Didn't Wynonie Harris have the hit version?
Yes (see the video's written description).
I can just hear it in my head; “Live from Philadelphia, it’s American’s favorite dance party, Bandstand! Starring Dick Clark!”
This abysmal commercial record, highighted by the nasalities of Dick Robertson's vocal, reminding one so much of sandpaper on a fever blister, is saved by the stellar presence of the irrepressible Bix Beiderbecke , whose soaring, timeless improvisiations take the mundane trivialities and transpot them into fanciful flights of passionate ecstasy of the Afro-Amrican music known as jazz. ,.
🙄 Bix had been dead since 1931.
Another great Isham Jones hit…
For my money, perhaps the two best dance bands of the early 1930s were Isham Jones and Ray Noble, and Jones’s band of 1924-29 was a fine one, too…
Nucky Thompson approved.
This is so sweet, I may get high blood sugar.
♡
Sublime..

Very stylish arrangement.
This is beautiful, imagine in a world where rights of all people had been jeopardized, and the world looked into the abyss of facism, hatred, war, and terror, where folks from the North African coast to the fields of france feared the boot of the Reich, and hearing this, a declaration of freedom for all children of the earth and God Beautiful.
Also see Elsie Carlisle's version.
Not sung in the 1953 movie, but Oscar Levant and Nanette Fabray (I believe) comically sing it on the extended movie soundtrack CD.
Wonderful

When Oldsmobile was famous
In 1942, did they make any attempt to get frequencies up to over 10 kHz or is an exciter applied? I'm aware, that shellac records could play frequencies over 10 kHz but were not compatible to cheaper photographs.
This song has a special manic energy that is unique to it alone. All coming from one man's fingers. Phenomenal
When you have a great song, you have a great song. It just incarnates over and over in so many different ways.
Is this the same song Willie Nelson covered called Star Dust?
I still like the one by the virtues better
Soy de chile y un vecino me regalo un disco de 78 rpm y ley la cancion que tenia y era este mismo disco y tenia el mismo instrumental
Best Almighty you people have no personalities
Pretty 😊
For some reason this was the biggest seller of the several versions of this song in 1950. Rather muscular.
THESE GUYS WERE WAY AHEAD OF THEIR TIME. THE WAY THEY INJECT HUMOR AND THE SYNCOPATED RHYTHM. HARLAN IS AN ABSOLUTE RIOT. WISH I COULD HAVE KNOWN HIM.
Lovely song. I really like Frank Ifield's reworking of it from 1964. He was outstanding singer.
Do you have the flip side "I Can't Do Without You"?
América futbol club do rio de janeiro.
Sound quality comparable with an average 1950's 45 rpm
I'm here because this was the opening theme to the "Easy Aces" radio program, which ran from 1930 to 1945.
Thanks Mom for introducing to your music. Now at 77 yrs old still listening. makes me feel like you are still with me.❤.

A song that deserves to be remembered
Harry Richman is not remembered over here in Ireland -but I like him - I enjoyed this number
I love this version.
I didn't know what a Novachord was. Apparently it was an early electronic synthesizer (one of the first) which proceeded the 'Moog' by nearly 30 years.
There is such a thing as song interpretation. Russ knows how to do this. This divides a great performer from just a singer.
Put away basketball, go to work in cal-ci-um mine
I imagine this was pretty risque back when this was first released.
I love Eileen Barton, because it will be a perfect choice for me.
