The over under throw off the shot defense was beautiful. No points, but it was still beautiful.
Freestyle rules would have awarded points for that. I wrestled in high school then had to relearn how to wrestle outside the US. We are hurting our wrestlers by keeping the old rules.
That really should have gotten points. I think there should be a "no saved by the bell" rule in MMA or BJJ, and takedowns in wrestling that end up out of bounds should still be counted.

On what point? The fact that freestyle would have awarded points? Or the fact that our high school and collegiate rules harm our athletes competing in international competition?

You can watch swiderskis confidence build after each point he scores. That last takedown was a gorgeous example of effort 🤌. awesome match all around.
i can't remember a time when a wrestler picked up his opponent and instead of throwing him down, threw him away.

Both guys wrestled offensively-what makes USA wrestling great compared to internationals. Swiderski plays the edge of the mat but uses it as an offensive (re-strike) tactic. He shoots and shoots and shoots. So did Mendez. That rivalry will not end here, thankfully for fans.
I'm not sure where they plan to go to school but if they grow at the same rate, we'll see this match many times in the future!🤼🏽♂️

This is the best sport to watch because they are in a competition, they are young, all of them have been doing this their whole lives with a lot of training and meets and school events .. its one on one.. and they come from all over the country to compete to be the best, not for money but just glory just because they love to do it.
In the pros they are all doing it for money, everyone is grown and doesnt care as much each game ..and there are so many games that it is diluted.. the reason this is better is bc you are watching a tourny and they are ranked, theres mystery about each person bc although they are somewhat well known in their communities they are so young that they are still growing and getting smarter so each year when they meet again it already has some drama built up.

Should’ve went to overtime if that dang caution didn’t point. We needed one more period lol. Fun match. Mendez looks like he is wrestling up two divisions, especially after the throw. Wow!!! Was intense!!

As a wrestler if you have these big matches: The Who’s number one, etc. At least have a decent ref like cmon a ref is the third person to dictate a matches pace and fluidity after the wrestlers. If they’re calling bs calls it slows the match down and stalls it out completely. Flo if you read this try to implement something new with the refs please! Or find a John McCarthy, or Herb Dean please! Much love and I love the videos keep it up, I’m just trying to give some insight from a athletes perspective.

just goes to show rank in highschool and collegiate wrestling doesnt matter at all to an extent.
More and more it seems like desire and wind--cardio I mean, has a lot to do with it. Who has a bit more in the tank.

If uniforms looked like that in high school wrestling I would have wrestled! Couldn’t get past the singlet, now training bjj and judo I regret it terribly and as an adult there aren’t really any options to learn wrestling.

Spanish guys are typically erratic. They use a lot of emotion but you will find they come out on the win end a great deal. Thinking of IMAR, Lugo, Delgado, Escobedo Rivera.

So true. There are plenty of awesome wrestlers all over the country but all too often the "top" guys just means his family can afford to spend money traveling all and over the country going to countless tournaments when the rest of the country, especially powerhouse states, aren't even wrestling. I get that's what it takes for recognition but clearly have mixed feelings about it. My favorites are the really young ones that win "national" tournaments that only have a handful of entrants. Like I said mixed emotions.
