- This is the 3Dtotal Anatomy: Equine figure. For those of us who have built up a bit of a thing for collecting reference figures, this is a real gem in the collection! But it's also one of the most fantastically useful tools when it comes to creating animals and beasts too if you are a dedicated artist!
The horse is known to be a particularly difficult mammal to replicate, its forms often misunderstood even by experienced artists. Regularly used as a basis for fantasy beings such as dragons, unicorns, and kelpies, a solid understanding of a horse’s anatomy goes a long way in creature design. The half-écorché/half-skin equine figure offers you the chance to study both the muscular structure and the surface variations of a horse in detail, acting as a perfect resource when photographs & Google Image searches aren’t enough or you aren’t able to study the animal in real life. If you want to produce believable and authentic creature designs then anatomical reference such as this is a must.
Here's a couple of draw-tests done with figure and with the new Dell 5530 using Sketchable to show how useful it is in practice!!
Let me know in the comments what you think folks.

Until next time, keep on creating!

I've used a lot of tools for CZcams creators, but TubeBuddy is the best I've seen! Free Download ➜ www.Tubebuddy.com/DrawBuddy - Věda a technologie

Exactly!!! Good ol' Jake. 🐕 They have a dog figure too!
Thanks for letting us know about this and for the good advice. Looks like a solid product.
Happy to help. It's one of those products you could easily miss but something that's just great to see isn't it? Check out the other ones. They have a cat and dog one too!!!!
The best visual animal to study
Exactly #SpreadTheWord ;D
I've been looking at these Dells and HP's with the Wacom AES 2.0, good Surface alternative?
I think so! I'll let you know in my next video - Hit Subscribe and the notification bell to see that pop up in your feed ;D
Lovely model, although I'd be so tempted to paint it up like Two Face!
Like I said, I want to add a wooden base! Painting it would be cool. You've seen the Enterprise & Voyager ships in my studio right? Yellow and Reed hanging from the ceiling!
Great anatomy figure ! Quite pricey but if you can afford, I think it's a good purchase. The pros for those figure are the muscular anatomy accuracy and the possibility to light like you want.
You can also use photo reference for anatomy but let's face it, sometimes, having a nude guy or girl displaying on your screen while you draw can be uncomfortable, specially if all of a sudden, your wife or your children show up in your room.😂
I saw that they also sell adaptative pose male model.
Funny wrapping by the way. 3dTotal has a sense of humor.
Yeah the 3Dtotal figures are not cheap but we already knew that. They are so well made though. Nothing good is cheap these days!
I agree. Having nudes on your screen does make you feel a bit weird. My wife walks in sometimes and sees somethings and I always explain it but honestly she doesn't care. My boy just tells me to put CZcams on so he can watch his videos on the big screens. I get nothing done when he comes in the studio. I have now given him the Dell Canvas for his own :( LEAVE ME BE BOY!!!
They have cat & dog models too.
Who made these?
3D Total (the magazine)
A really good horse model! I wish the horse figure in Poser 11 was this good. The digital poser programs need to get to this level of details.
And they could easily if they paid decent sculptors - that's why I won't use those apps though :(
@@LAWRENCEcanDRAW Their humans are passable, but their animals need some major work! Breyer horses make pretty good models too. That company has some really good sculpters!
I hadn't heard of Breyer. Obviously it's not meant for reference but would do the trick. You can't see the anatomy of the muscle structure but some of their figures are great for poses. If you paint a lot of horses (or want to) then it would be worth investing in a could of these to have around the studio so you can get more inspiration. The only thing I wonder about is, are they as glossy as they appear to be in some of the photos? It looks like many of them are varnished in high gloss when I'd prefer a more matte finish for realistic reference purposes. Great job spotting this Ele' :D now I'm going to imagine your house full of them!! haha
@@LAWRENCEcanDRAW Breyer is kind of a toy, but more like collectibles for older kids, teens, and adults because they are definitely breakable. Yes, some of them have a glossy texture to mimic the shiny look of well groomed horses. Some of them aren't as shiny as others. It depends on the breed they are trying to portray. You are not wrong, lol! My house is full of them, although I have packed the bigger models away, I have a whole bookshelf of the miniature models. I collected them as a kid and I still like them now, haha! I have models of the famous race horses and several different breeds. My Mom has some too. She loves Breyer horses, especially the draft horse models.
That's awesome! I bet they are good for reference! You should use one and do a video!!!
omg ty homie
haha! Stay subbed ;)
@@LAWRENCEcanDRAW nvm i tought it free i missread the review bruh
That would have been awesome!!
@@LAWRENCEcanDRAW huh??????
I meant it would have been awesome if it were free ;)
That horse has terrible conformation. Just look at the leg positions!
I take it that you're a horse person?
Not bad but given they are unpainted plastic I would have expected them to be cheaper than like $110 USD each given their size as well. I feel like there is a premium here because they are targeting professionals with their sales. Still, very cool and that wouldn't make it any less useful.
Agree with you about the price Phillip but I do have to mention that this is a niche product so they have to pay a very talented 3D Designer (can't remember his name) to sculpt it and then they have to market it. Okay that is in their own magazine so it's not costing anything but they are using space they would normally sell to advertisers. Then they have to print them, package and post them. Given the limited run it means that it can't be done cheaply out of China or India but it is all done locally here which is what makes it more expensive. Plus their profit. 3D Total (Future Publishing) is a huge company and they are not going to do anything for free :( haha.
@@LAWRENCEcanDRAW Yeah and It's not like I don't understand all of that; but the thing is what it comes down to is the consumer bears the financial brunt of it all.
That is still going to be a wall for some folks regardless.
Honestly though, what I've been doing is there are 3D models very similar to this on things like sketchfab that you can rotate in 3D space and I've been using them for reference and study sometimes. Alongside the Eliot Goldfinger and Ellenberger animal anatomy books.
I agree. I had to say it though just for anyone else reading the comments. Just economics.
The SketchFab stuff is cool. I've seen some good stuff floating around. Personally I still like just finding a good Google Image reference myself. I have a buddy why swears by poser (like it's still the 90's).
