Hawaiian diver 48 years of diving alone best way to dive ! Know your limit ! Always inspect your gear. There is no reason to die because of a worn O-ring. Main thing always listen to your inner voice if something feels wrong abort the dive and if there is a problem underwater work the problem keep your cool and when possible always have a back up plan. Want to be safe dive sidemount two rigs better than one

Same experience as others - realized very soon that diving is for many nothing more than a “tourist attraction “ and you are on your own anyways - so I became self reliant

This is a great topic! And Achims take on the matter is spot on.

I have been diving for a few years, and i came to decision after my expirience - that you dive almost every time alone. dive guide - doesnt care about you. your partner - you never know what he capable of. in Cuba lernd that you need your own regulator - because there wanted to give me broken one for a 40m dive - they told me that its not a problem (well for theme, maybe. not for me). after some more dives a learnd that i need a sidemount (2 tanks), 2 dive lights, 2 masks, a buoy - to be able to survive on my own in any case.... aaaand to help some one if i will be able to. My decision is - you NEED to learn to constract your own solo equipment and learn to dive alone - that way you actually can help your self and some one else, if cant be able to watch your self, how can you tell you can help another

I see it that way: even a random buddy, at worst, is a self-propelling redundant air tank :-)

Solo diver since some years, in a know locations, good weather and redundant equipment. I know is dangerous but I prefer in this way.

I solo alot. I always have a bailout bottle in addition to main tank. I chose my locations carefully and depending on conditions.

Excellent video with very valid points addressed in a solid, truthful manner! Taking on a total stranger as a buddy on a boat dive in unfamiliar surroundings may/can be a recipe for disaster!

I always appreciate your honest and open opinion. I kind of feel like I need to be a babysitter when I have a dive buddy, and at the same time don't want to be a burden on another diver. Finding a good match up dive buddy has always been difficult for me. Good discussion.

A refreshingly honest and well expressed view given on solo diving. I agree!!

I made one of my best friends a diver. We see things the same way. He is a brilliant diving partner now and we are planning our dives so we can do them together. I highly recommend this option.

  • @FromGamingwithLove0456

I knew if I was patient you would finally do a clip on solo!

I think the best concept is every dive is a solo dive. Like tech we should carry back up to be safe.

Excellent video, hit the nail on the head regarding solo diving. Good dive partner extremely difficult to find. 99.9% of all the drivers out there who feel they are diving with the dive partner are really solo diving, they just don’t know it. Be prepared. Two is one, one is none, three is better.

Nice to have someone open to talk about this as I have had several crazy dives with people that lied about their abilities and caused issues as a result, so I came to the conclusion on some dives even though I had a diver partner I was on my own if the ... hit the fan with them.

I agree with you...especially on depending on a buddy that maybe a liability rather than an asset...If you train well, know your equipment, do a thorough check on your equipment the day before the dive and the day prior to the dive, keep the dive to known spots and keep it rather shallow, have redundant equipment where possible and keep within your limits...planning my next dive as solo...PADI offer a class called the RELIANT DIVER.

  • @vmartinez71

I love to solo dive. Most of the time I enjoy my solo underwater time more than when I'm with a group
