- Have you ever wondered what it takes to build an extremely tiny car that you can drive on your desk… and have so much fun doing it! This tutorial is for you!
I’ve been building models and realistic scenery for a while and I’ve always wanted to shrink down and walk around my creations… but since that is not an option just yet the next best thing is to be able to do it in a third person view by driving a tiny HO scale car through my scenes, and with this tutorial you too will be able to go on a tiny road trip 😃
I bought this model about 8 months ago from tiny4x4, unfortunately it’s not currently in stock however I have been told they will be receiving a shipment in the not too distant future. In the mean time the Das87 kit can be found on eBay, Amazon and a few other retailers but finding the ESC and nano receiver can be a bit more challenging.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned 'Where's Wally' yet... or 'Waldo' for the Americans here 😃 I'll leave you with a hint so you don't have to scrub through the video over and over... he is in the video twice, once in the intro shots and once in the outro shots... Ohh, with blinking led's buried behind the crystals inside the cave giving them a glow..
Added to the caves (or tunnels) interior I think you may wish to add some animated dinosaurs.

if there was a way to fit a really small camera in there you could potentially stream it to a vr headset and drive around your dioramas in first person. that would be soooo cool
Yeah! Most all in one fpv cameras are small enough to put on the car.

@@VTXHobbies Sadly most FPV's I've seen aren't 360 and aren't really good for beautiful scenery it gets the job done for driving but not for photos or video.
Ridiculous... as in ridiculously good! He really needs to do the camera thing in the scene he's made as that would look awesome!

@ThePhilRivers You're right, at first I thought "that's strange that Luke would lose the side mirrors, he's so organized and meticulous". But your comment made me realize that no matter how organized or meticulous you are, you can lose things, no matter if you're a professional or a beginner.
He probably left them in the same spot as the lost footage. Did he check under the car seats?

@@villiantwo meh its more easy like you say but it's hard enough while you're recorded it, behind that scene there be a lots of footage to make proper view in front camera and last thing say something whole 18 minutes

@ungratefulmetalpansy They put the smoke into the circuit boards and motors at the factory. If you let the smoke out they won't work anymore. :)

FANTASTIC video! I work with 14th scale models. It blows my mind how you managed to cram EVERYTHING needed into such a small space!
I would love to see a haunted house model! Complete with all sorts of monsters,ghosts,zombies,ghouls, the sky is the limit! Maybe even make a little graveyard around the house with zombies coming out the ground!

Found this video by total accident...I'm more of a tank model guy myself and will probably never own a micro car kit but WOW did I find this video to be so pleasing to watch! Great tutorial and great camera work as well!

Simply awesome. Thank you for this incredible build video! As usual, Luke's tutorial is well thought out and comprehensive in all regards. My first exposure to 1/87 scale RC was back in 2000 at the International Hobby Manufacturers Show in Chicago. A tractor trailer rig driving around the show floor. Das-87 has really refined their production to a fine art.
Amazing. So tiny and yet functional. The progress with miniaturization keeps on amazing me. Awesome. Great stuff although it seems delicate.

You could have glued some smoked plastic in the back windows though, or maybe painted the battery to look like luggage. Very nice still. =)

@@BoulderCreekRailroad As someone who does repair mechanical watches I can safely say you're not far from it with this! The gears and 3DP parts do look a bit scruffy but I bet you could get some amazing results just changing out the gears on the model. Definitely gonna look into making something with these now! :D
@@BoulderCreekRailroad I do dental implants, and some of them are multi part with locking latches and levers to operate them. I have to say: your work is really good.
I wish I would understand the electronics part too, so I could do this kit too :(

@@BoulderCreekRailroad Had to fiddle around with tiny gears once, made a steampunky EMP grenade with some moving gears. That was already enough for me :p A working watch where everything has to work together, sounds like a true nightmare.
you wanna see some complicated watches? take a look at Jacob & Co astronomia watches.... thats a whole another level of watches!!! and for the record, the pricetag on those are basically half a million or more.

Adam Savage did the mistake of reffering to the screws that hold his glasses together tiny. A watchmaker sent him some screws that are almost literally unbelievably tiny. I don't even understand how they could be used.

Even having made wargaming terrain for decades, I find I always learn something from your videos (I bought a pair of machinist 1-2-3 blocks after seeing you use them - love 'em!).

this tutorial is a life saver because no instructions are included, currently i have the front axle finished other then the steering arm. doing pretty good for never building with parts this small.
When I see things like this are possible, I'm truly convinced that we are living in the future.
I don’t think I have the patience to do this, however I really want to motorized my bus and lorries on my layout. Keep up the good work.
I think adapting this to a bus would be quite easy and there would be plenty of room inside to make it work 😉

I thought it impossible to custom make all my parts for micro cars until I finally tried. So building a ready made kit should be within many people's abilities if you have the tools and just go very slowly and follow Lukes advice.

I think that would take away from the awesomeness that Luke adds by building it from the ground up. Anyone can buy one.....not many can make.
Those kits are very labor intensive. No-one would buy those models if you calculate the final price.
