I find 1983 to be a facinating entry, this is less than 40 years after WWll, the event was hosted in Munich in Germany, one of the birthplaces of the Nazi movement, and the city where Israeli athletes were murdered at the Olympics, and the Israeli entry sings a song about being "Alive". Came second too. Well Done!

Also, they specifically chose to wear yellow as a symbol of the yellow stars jews were forced to wear during WW2 and the holocaust. Also fun fact, she explicitly chose a song with a lot of harsh CH sounds to show the world "we are here, alive, this is our language and we don't give a #$@% about what you think about it".

lol your reaction to the 2000 entry was exactly our reaction back in Israel. The 2000's and early 2010's were bad because we had no say in it, they were selected by a "special committee" probably comprised of 70 year old people who had no understanding of Eurovision or music in general. The 2000 entry was maybe the worst in history and they also waved the Syrian flag in the end (Syria - an enemy country) creating a huuuge scandal, getting fined by the Israeli broadcaster etc.
They were there just to create controversy, nothing more, nothing less. Humiliating.
BTW, rumor has it that BECAUSE of Israel sending a 12 year old boy in the 1989 contest, who hit puberty and started changing his voice between the national selection and the actual ESC, that the EBU introduced the age limit in 1990 (16 I think). Fun fact, Belgium won in 1986 with a 13 year old girl but she was AMAZING.

My favourites and why I like them
1979 - It's a remainder of my childhood, and a classic ESC song
1983 - Great song, singing Alive in Munich was such a great statement, should have won
    1987 - I really like the humor
1991 - I like the traditional sound, a bit like Hava Nagila
2010 - Such a great ballad and he is so cute.

Our music has changed a lot over the years

There were many things going behind the scenes that influenced the quality of entries and the standings. In 1997 the voting was changed from juries to televotes. In around the same time the public switched to commercial tv instead of the public broadcaster, thus losing interest in the ESC. Many prominent artists didn't want to go to the ESC due to the political situation of the years 2001-2010 and some required a call from the prime minister office to go...
In 2015 the selection was moved to commercial tv so the public interest increased and with it the quality of entries.

There was something else too. In 1999 the native language rule was cancelled, after which most songs had at least some English in them, though the first one completely in English was in 2015 (and sadly no song since then had more than a couple of lines in Hebrew)

Everytime israel finished in the last spots they were in a war.
The world hate us so it's kinda difficult to win it like that

their nqs in 2013 and 14 were uncalled for lol. I think they've been on a very strong streak since 2015 (ignoring last year since MBD was just an error in the system)

They have done pretty well in average the thing is sometimes a good song might not do so well becasue there are better songs competing.

We sent terrible songs most of the early 2000's 😂 but we later made a comeback

I agree that it got worst in the 21st century, except 2005 Shiri Maimon, she's absolutely wonderful. I love Harel Skaat (who was in 2010) but the song sucked.

First off all I think this contest should be eliminated already, It has nothing to do with music. And as for Israel, They did have some really bad songs (I don't know how Toy got the first place) but in many cases of low rating, it was so transparent that politics were involved. BTW, not only for Israel.
