Fran Simeoni is basically a modern legend in this business. He spent years at Arrow Video, running everything from individual release production up through managing large campaigns. Now, he has embarked on a new, personal journey with Radiance Films. Radiance Films launched just a few weeks ago and was an instant smash hit.
This discussion is one that I have been working on for quite some time and we talked about so many things that I was just fascinated with listening to myself. Terrific interview as always, love these discussions with labels. As for Radiance, I’ve got a suspicion they will become a new favourite. Between the fantastic starting lineup (English friendly Rudolf Thome!) and Fran’s ethos around getting more films out there is very promising. Genuinely hope that Radiance is successful in filling a much needed niche between arthouse / cult / genre that is sadly absent in the current climate of boutique labels.

Sorry for the length, but I wanted to share this anecdote about this company. I recently signed up for their email lists, and shortly thereafter I made a huge order to get the free shipping. I didn't know it at the time, but I had an email from them to get 10 percent off the first order. Frustrated that I had already ordered, I sent them an email the next day explaining that and asked if the discount could still be applied. I wasn't expected it, but they did. They sent me email saying they were taking the discount off. Very nice of them.

Sad to hear that fran failed to grab the rights for visitor Q recently but any unreleased takashi miike would be very welcome for me. I’ll literally buy any of miike’s work that isn’t currently available on blu. Gozu would be very welcomed also. I’d imagine the rights are hard to source though for most of these.

Yeah… that list of missed acquisitions was sad (especially Visitor Q) but really just instilled my faith in Fran. Dude has curated immaculately so far.
