Metallica: Meet Some of the Marching Band Competition Participants

- Earlier this summer, we visited the marching band practices of San Bernadino High School, Rancho Mirage High School, and Ramona High School to hear from students on how they’re preparing for the inaugural Metallica Marching Band Competition, and what it means to each student. Plus, we sat down with the schools' band directors as they shared what this opportunity has brought to their programs.

As a high school band director, I love band, I love teaching, and I love Metallica, so seeing all three of these things come together for an opportunity like this just warms my heart.
Why didn't you join in the competition
Literally, a Metallica marching show was my dream during all of my high school years. My band director would have never considered it. So stoked for these kids. 🤘

I love this contest. Look at how far Travis Barker went from his Marching Band. He still uses those skills to this day. I hope lots of these kids pursue music professionally after high school - or at least become lifelong bedroom musicians where they can use music as an outlet and a way to connect with others after graduation.
Btw, Metallica should do a similar contest for school orchestras too àla S&M style! How cool would that be?!

Interesting switch in paradigm. 35 years ago, Metallica fans would have been regarded as edgy and weird. Now Metallica fans are marching band directors.
