  • Less that $15 dollar solution to permanently and safely bypass your refrigerator water filter. Takes less that 15 minutes and anyone can do it themselves.
    Tools required: Scissors, pliers or wire cutter
    Fridge water filters - the ultimate waste of fridge space!
    Great money spinner for refrigerator and filter manufacturers but not much use to consumers.

    I did this here in US. Cost me $5.00 to bypass factory filter with 5/16 brass compression union. I did decide to add an inline filter that lasts for 5 years! That was $32.00. No more $50.00 filters every 6-12 months for me!

    FYI - I have the LG LRSDS2706. The one with the impossible to change filters that cost $50 and last about 3 months! I tried removing the filter and learned pretty quick that there is no automatic bypass if the filter is not detected. I was also not able to find a filter plug for this model either. We already have a whole house water filtration system and thanks to your video I was able to easily bypass my filter. It works great! I also connected the cut lines to/from the filter to to keep dirt out just in case I ever decide to revert back. (not!) Thank you so much!

    This is brilliant. I'm disappointed at myself for not thinking of it, lol.
    I have a bosch fridge and an official bypass filter is $90 CAN (3X the price of a filter!!). Found a site thay sold just a simple cap plug for $20 but they don't ship to Canada.
    So thank you for the video. Definitely going to be doing this as I have plenty of these quick connect pieces lying around.

    Brilliant! Found a 1/4" union in my box 'o' plumbing parts and killed off the filter in our old GE side by side garage fridge in less than 5 min! Cost $0. The part from GE to bypass the filter retails for $51! Glad I ran across your video. Many thanks!

      I would say this is a DISERVICE for Australia, US, Germany, UK and 4 other countries that flood the public water supply with Fluorosilic acid. This is a known neuro-TOXIN!!! Claimed to be OK as the claim is for tooth enamel, which is a bunch of BS. This accumulates in the body over years, and blocks your penal gland in the brain. It is also used in rat poison. Get a RO filter, THEN bypass the fridge filter!

    Indeed, many people have a much better filter already installed elsewhere and are running that to the fridge with absolutely no need for an additional filter... especially the wimpy fridge filters that cost $50 every 6 months and barely do anything anyway! The fridge companies will sell you a bypass filter, but that is $60-70 compared to just a $5 push connect coupler.

    i just bought a new Fridgidaire FGHD2368TF with ice-maker and water dispenser. i already have a under-sink water filter system for drinking water. i just watched this video and will be ordering the 5/16 coupler. My Fridgidaire uses 5/16 water lines. Once the fridge water filter stops working, I'll be bypassing the fridge filter and switching to the filtered water supply i already have in place.

    If you are in the US using public supply then you need a filter for all the chemicals they put into your water.

    I've done research on bypass filters. It appears many refrigerators bypass automatically once the refrigerator filter is removed. Worked on my Whirlpool.

    Oddly the Samsung RF260B I just bought has a coupling which joins the filter-out to icemaker-in. The expected male thread to plastic compression tube adapter is present on the filter-in line. So it is a simple matter of separating icemaker-in from its coupling and moving the male adpater to it. Cost $0. Time 2mn. Comically there is a big sticker advising the user not to separate tubes from the coupler, even though the coupler was designed for tool-free press/release operation. I assume that caution is solely in defense of Samsung aftermarket parts revenue.
    I prefer my old Samsung of which the new fridge is a cost reduced copy. The old version at least had the filter in the top back where it was out of the way and included a bypass cap. Now they carve out a hole between reduced size crisper drawers to accommodate that useless filter. You're stuck looking at the thing as if it was a major engineering design triumph. Not impressed with Samsung's deevolution in the decade between old and new units.

    You don't have to cut any lines... Just take the main line into the white line off and connect it where the blue line is connected...😂

    I connected a line from my under sink water filter to the back of the fridge, bypassing the fridges filter like you did here. But the water flows too fast and fills up the ice tray rapidly. I have restricted the flow via the valve I added when splitting the line under the sink.... Not sure what to do

    • @melissabrant748

      I would try to pinch off the water line a little or turn the main water course towards off restricting the water flow

    • @MichaelAdamsStory
      @MichaelAdamsStory  Před 6 lety +1

      Pa Mil yes I should have. With those connectors you just push the plastic tube into the connector. That’s it - it pushes in about 1 cm or 3/8 inch on each side of the connector.

    • @MichaelAdamsStory
      @MichaelAdamsStory  Před 5 lety +2

      For my fridge you need to purchase a specific bypass plug - that item exists but is 'no longer available'.

    • @wyomingamy
      @wyomingamy Před 4 lety +3

      Not all refrigerators have that capability. My Whirlpool must have either a working filter ($45 reccomended every 3 months) or we have to replumb similar to this gentleman's video.
